Valley shifts GSU game to campus

From special reports

ITTA BENA ? Mississippi Valley State announced Wednesday that its Oct. 9 football game with Grambling State will be played at 5 p.m. at Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena instead of Soldier Field in Chicago as previously scheduled.

Lonza Hardy Jr., MVSU's director of athletics, said problems related to transportation of the opposing team's marching band prompted the move.

MVSU fans who have purchased season tickets for 2004 can purchase special discounted tickets for the Grambling game at just $10 each, if bought prior to Oct. 9.

Everybody should be too good to take a bus 14 hours to Chicago.:mrt:

Any administrator that would let their kids ride a bus for 28 hours on a 2 day weekend is asinine. Why would Gram, Valley or any school send 150 people or better on that type of journy. The sponsors are trying to increase their revenue at the expense of our kids.

Way to go Valley and Gram.

Way to go Gram that is.

I guess the FAMU's, JSU's, TnSt's, Howards, MoB's, BamaSt's, NSU's, TxSU's, SU's, PV's, BCC's, on & on all have asinine administrations then....except for Gram.

IMO when it comes to "band" decisions dealing with Grambling; they continue to be a ssholes; just like when they asked A&M if they was gone pay for their band travel to come to A&M....h ell nall we aint!!

I'm speaking of classics sponsored by promoters not regular season games in which band directors and AD's or whoever makes decision regarding travel. Like someone else mentioned earlier why should 150 plus people trael 28 hours in 2 days. I think sponsors should consider flying teams and bands to any game that would require at least 8 hours of driving.

Yup, we are Grambling -- the first band inducted into the NCAA Hall of Champions. We paid our dues a long, long time ago. I am surprised a promoter would approach the World Famed with such a notion. I bet they understand the omnipotent "We are Grambling" statement now. ;)

(If I remember the story correctly)
A&M folks called and asked if Grambling's band was coming to Huntsville. The band said "NO". The A&M folks were told if they wanted Gramblings band so bad then pay for the "WORLD FAMED" to come. I understand there were articles and radio stations involved. A&M's attendance would triple if they knew in advance the most recongnized marching band on planet earth was coming.

I didn't want to say this, but don't jump to conclusions. UAPB is taking 2 chartered flights Friday morning to Chicago. I do not think that was the sole reason, if so why would the promoter not pay for GSU's band to fly and pay for UAPB's band, which is probably 100 members larger to fly?

Instead of flying to Chicago, looks like GSU will be taking a bus ride to Ita Bena.

:xeye: :xeye: :xeye: :xeye: :xeye: .............. :look: :look: :look: :look: :look:............Explain why everyone can get funding except for WORLD FAMOUS .......... :look: :look:

OK ....... So the jist of this is .........Gram's band don't travel unless SOMEONE OTHER THAN GRAM PAY'S FOR IT?

Just going on what's been posted here. Tell me if I'm wrong.

You got it all twisted. These kids are here to get an education and they can't do that spending almost half a week riding on the bus to Chi. That's almost an 18 to 20 hr trip when you calculate fueling and meal times. Then when they get there it's hump and more hump without any time to recover. We've paved the way in earlier years and we intend to enjoy the fruits of such sacrificed labor.

MACH... trust me you are CRAZY AS HELL.... Grambling is NOT a big name band here.... If it was reported on TV... newspapers on every commercial... it WOULD NOT affect attendence here. Did the SWAC Championship game tripple in attendence when GSU came to Alabama????
