Tuskegee QB Lacey says playoffs more intense than Turkey Day Classic

Bruh, neither of these Universities are my alam mater. Therefore, I am not having a nervous breakdown on this forum why the TDC is better than the div 2 playoffs and vice versa. I just like sports and enjoy all sports at different levels no matter div 2, D-1A/AA,etc. I could care less if the 2 s books never cross paths again. The game was not on ESPNU but heavily talked about on social media among different athletic forums about TU getting good exposure. Onward & upward to these great HBCUs.

If you had to balance the books, you would have a different opinion. It's the same argument MEAC fans make. Skegee and Bama State loss money by ending the 90 year old TDC. Skegee loss more than Bama State because they didn't make any money participating in the playoffs. The Skegee AD realized this and jumped at the opportunity to start a Labor Day matchup. They still will come to Hornet Stadium but will not get paid the amount they were getting for the TDC. Skegee alums that I talk to are not happy with ending the TDC. RIP TDC!

Those that I know aren't happy either.

We know the playoffs are a money loser so I don't know why they are trying to convince us otherwise. As you said, they hopped on the chance to get back on the Hornets schedule

I guess we all run in different circles. My circle of TU friends told me more than once that TU did NOT get a lot of $$$ from the TDC & especially how they were disrespected by ASU. All I do is go to the TDC and enjoy it & have a good time. What I do not understand is why is it that ASU worry so much about playing a small private school such as TU?? Is it because TU brings a large crowd? Whatever the reason is it appears TU has the upper hand on ASU who is begging for them to come back. My sources are credible. You said it right!! RIP TDC .

Our football program is able to make money regardless if we play Skegee or not. Skegee NEEDED to come back and play us since they were losing money. Tuskegee does not make more money going to the playoffs nor do they have more national exposure while in the playoffs. You clearly don't know what you are talking about

It does not matter with me either way what either university does. TU's previous administration were sick & tired of ASU not doing the $$$ split fairly. Playoffs aren't about making $$$. It's about high level of play and playing the best to win with a regional championship & marching on to play for a national championship. A group of TU folks told me that there are some things money can't buy and that is respect which is something ASU fail to give TU. They do enjoy playing AAMU and have no problem. Their only problem is with ASU. I am only saying why I have been told. Enough of this talk about these 2 schools.. Carry on.

But JT to be fair. You were the one claiming that the D2 playoffs had more of a national stage and now you can't back that up with any facts.

This isn't the meac/onnidan forum where you can just make any old claim and rationalize it by simply saying what you think a coach might say in recruiting.

So again what national stage are they on that ASU isn't?

That's all he's asking you to explain.

Exactly! Dude won't answer that question.

That kid just taking a shot at Bama State since he couldn't cut it there. Nothing to see here.
He shouldn't be a QB. He threw 13 ints and completed less than 50% of his passes this season. Should definitely switch to WR. I still don't understand why they interviewed him when he has never actually played in the game.

It should be, The Turkey Day is only one game, while the playoffs are back to back and you are playing a good team every week if you win.

The truth is D2 is weak now. It's not like it was when we were D2. You basically have a watered down D2 now. All the good schools and dominate schools jumped ship a long time ago.

If Dr. Payton was still President, the TDC would still exist. He was a business savvy president. His successor ended the TDC. He was a disaster, and was let go after 1 year. The new President realized the monetary loss and came back to the table with a proposal starting in 2017 playing in the new Hornets Stadium for 4 consecutive years. They were given a guarantee payout far less than they were paid for the 2012 TDC game. JThomas what disappoints most HBCU fans in the River Region is the loss of a black tradition.

See how they get ghost at the slightest sign of being called out on what they say? And he's one of the better and more sensible posters.

To be honest, if I'm a current Tuskegee player, I'd rather play in the D2 playoffs than be ASU's homecoming opponent every year.

And we know Bama State ain't traveling to TU

Cant Knock tuskegee, who cares if the stands are pack, on TV and you looking like SH*T? You a Lie if when you didn't Wonder if they could win one more after the North Alabama Game. You a Lie if you thought that Tuskegee could beat North Alabama.

Tuskegee is smoking that stuff and I blame AAMU. What the heck were yall thinking ever going down there to play them? Bama State should get Auburn to switch there game to bama state's stadium... lol. Tuskegee thinks they are the equals of AAMU and state because they can win some games off of them. Doesn't make them equals... just makes the hornets and bulldogs sorry. As for the playoffs, I want our schools to participate and win, but if it doesn't make dollars it doesn't make sense. So you have to force the hand of the ncaa. You play all the good schools during the regular season and beat the breaks off of them. Then when playoff time comes around and your not participating everyone will say, yeah, ND State won but we all know the best teams are in the swac but they won't pay to play in our championship. That how you delegitimize their event and make them change it to something financially worthwhile.
That is why it was important to get away from the 9 game mandate and that is also why the swac shouldn't allow us to fill up our schedules with DII schools or play swac schools as nonconference opponents. At some point you've got to take your lumps to get better and you can't let a coach or AD that wants to hide for their personal short term gain stand in the way of long term progress.

You're right about current Skegee players. However, the two institutions recruit totally different players and the playoffs are not a factor. Not qualifying at the FCS level is the reason a player like Lacey goes D-2.

That's true

JC,
I just saw this same thread over on Onnidan Sports forum a few minutes ago. Please go on over there to ask the Skegee folks how much $$$ they lost by NOT playing ASU in the TDC. You will be surprised what they will tell you about the $$$. LOL! Like I said neither of the schools are my alma mater. I actually like both of them and do support both thru relatives & friends.

You ready to talk about that national stage now?

I rather not. The TDC is dead. May it rest in peace. As a black Alabamain, I find no joy in losing another one of our historic tradition. I see a pattern that has been developing for a long time. It sadden me that black people continue to go down this road. Black people ought to be able to sit down at the table and resolve differences that would be advantageous to both institutions and their alums.

Ironically, Skegee leads the series between TU-Bama State Record: 64-33-4.

I am missing the TDC my damn self! :(

BTW, is this Labor Day thing with Skegee and ASU going to be an annual event?

OR is it a year-by-year basis?

JC, I feel ya 150% on that!:(
