Re: TSU BANNED!

How much effort does it take to state the obvious? 9 out of the 10 inbound students your intake process propagates do NOT graduate. What type of effort does it take to state that 90% of the students who enroll every single fall semester do NOT graduate in 4-6 years?

One thing about some of you dark people, you CERTAINLY know how to habitually take the low road and make excuses, don't want to face the music, and KNOW how to divert. (talk about PV's GSR here, if you like where one of your "alums" thought she knew more than I :emlaugh: and tried to tell the world it was only 22% or something stupid like that when I know damned well it was @ 37% and JUST dropped to 35% 2 yrs prior :read: ). I'm so, so, so, so god awfully thankful I didn't grow up in an elementary-type non-competitive academic environment like houston isd fosters :emlaugh:. You people never learned that a square peg really won't fit a round hole. :retard:

I usually don't get in bickering matches with people about stuff they can look up from credible sources, but since you started it I guess I will finish it:

http://collegecompletion.chronicle.com/institution/#id=227526 - Chronicle of Higher Education (there was a 2012 article in the Houston Chronicle, but I could not find it)

As I said before, PVs 2010 6 year graduation rate is 31% and their 4-year is 9.9% - The 2011 figures in the Houston Chronicle article are 1 to 2 percentage points different than that. No school in the state of Texas has a four year graduation rate over 52%. Is PV's graduation rate better than TSU's? Yes. But my point is why are you consistently trying to belitte TSU for their six-year 13% percent gradution rate, when PVs is not much better? I say this to say, quit throwing stones as typical black people tend to in these types of situations to cover up the issues in their own house. Whether it is JSU, TSU, SU, Gram, or PV none of us should laugh, but offer suggestions as to how we should help. If some TSU posters ever belittled or downtalked other SWAC schools in this situation, I apologize on their behalf. As C-leb said, we laid this bed so we will suffer the consquences. Nonchalant, I agree with you, we all need to do better. No excuses and lack of funding is no longer justification for our issues as a whole.

I want everyone to stop bickering because it is not good when any of our HBCU's are in this position. We can throw mud at each other, but get defensive when we talk about crooked BCS Schools like Ohio St. that barley graduates any black athletes.

That is not true about Ohio State. I can attest to that. Those kids are graduating there. Both the non athletes and athletes that are African American. It is no reason why a black kid can't graduate there. They really have things in place to help you. Can't speak for other PWCs. We all know that at those big BCS schools a lot of those black kids go to the NFL and NBA before graduating and some never come back or some graduate outside of that 6 year window they measure. Bottom line is that if us HBCUs want to be able to tell a kid that you will graduate better than going to a PWC, we better step our game up. Right now, the evil white man's colleges are doing a better job than a lot of us.

mhurd97,

Does the graduation rate have something to do with the working class demographics of the school? I know SUNO although much smaller in the past has been a commuter college so to speak that have a lot students that work full time and attend school (non traditional students). This could be one of the reasons that the 4-6 year graduation threshold is not being met.

I think some of what you said is true. My philosophy is this- Every person has the ability to learn but it could take person A, 2 hours to grasp a concept and person B, 4 hours to do the same. It really comes down to discipline, but when you factor in a commuter school, many black folks that do not save to send their kids to college then the financial burden is on the student to work and go to school.

Many of our HBCUs will have to get out of the mind-set of we just educate black kids because we do not. We need to promote our schools as a place that ALL students are provided a great learning experience. For example, if majority of our students at TSU come from the Houston Independent School District (HISD) which has 60% Hispanic kids then our focus and mission must change. As we talk about who graduates and who doesn't it would nbe interesting to note what are the graduation rates for non-black kids at our HBCUs. I would suspect that it is quite high. Although many of our non-black students comprise our pharmacy school (~46% other) and law school (~49% other), in order for our Universities to continue to survive and thrive we will have to appeal to non-black students as well. in the 21st century black kids are not going to go to a college just becasue it is an HBCU.

Dude, this is about what's right. TSU knew this was coming and he didn't have to good sense back then to back up JSUs president and say that we need to look further into this. Why ban schools from a game when the NCAA done told you... I said the NCAA done told you, it's not a part of the ban? And then schools like PV and Grambing had the nerve to vote against JSU when they have had WORSE APR scores than. These are just the facts. Alcorn's President didn't vote so if the schools who KNEW that HBCUs need to work on APR issues first hand (PV, GSU, SU, TxSo, and JSU) had all voted together, no SCG ban would have occured. But no, they got high and mighty all of sudden. They had to wait until the white folks told them that APR for HBCUs need more consideration.

So yeah, I am happy TSU got banned and I hope they get banned next year and the year after and I hope PV and GSU are right behind them.

Now back to topic.....this should be a learning experience for us and I'm confident that we'll be all for thee better once we emerge. I still hold firm to my belief that TSU's Athletic Program will reach the top of the SWAC echelon and rule the SWAC.

I think some of these JSU and PV posters on here are having a tough time embracing and accepting that truth.

this is why it's so hard to take TSU serious!! :lmao:

Re: TSU BANNED!

...I'm just shocked they let this thread go on. Typically, only a JSU bashing thread goes beyond 10 posts. Props to the mods.
I'm just shocked that certain mods havent started deleting post and certain posters havent started crying about they attacking us.

Dude, you do realize in life you have to make decision that are best for the conference even when you know that it will impact you. We all know the NCAA rules so everybody had to change the way they were doing things- more accountability. So, to vote against JSU when we knew that it would happen to us the following year takes courage so get over being bitter.

Don't worry TXSU. JSU wrote the original book "SWAC Football for Dummies". Just get a copy from them and you will be alright!!

Not sure of your school affiliation but you seem to be one of the ones that would be sick once it happens....Humor me and share why you think that is NOT the realm of possibilities???????

Exactly...Kenn threatened to ban me from the board for riding Alcorn for selling out and hiring a white coach. We all know that if JSU had announced that we were hiring a white coach we would be on our 2nd 8 page thread in less than 24 hours. but since its Alcorn, we cant say a word.

The same goes for TSU having APR issues. When it was JSUs turn everybody on the board was saying "deal with it, make your players study, you deserve what you got"....and on and on. Nobody was on the board with this Cumbaya everybody hold hands and pray for your fellow man crap.

For one, Im on record hoping that TSU Grambling Valley and Alcorn get all the bad things coming to them. TSU and Grambling voted against their own best interest KNOWING they had APR issues with their own programs being banned from post season play.
