Re: TSU BANNED!

Try harder p

How much effort does it take to state the obvious? 9 out of the 10 inbound students your intake process propagates do NOT graduate. What type of effort does it take to state that 90% of the students who enroll every single fall semester do NOT graduate in 4-6 years?

One thing about some of you dark people, you CERTAINLY know how to habitually take the low road and make excuses, don't want to face the music, and KNOW how to divert. (talk about PV's GSR here, if you like where one of your "alums" thought she knew more than I :emlaugh: and tried to tell the world it was only 22% or something stupid like that when I know damned well it was @ 37% and JUST dropped to 35% 2 yrs prior :read: ). I'm so, so, so, so god awfully thankful I didn't grow up in an elementary-type non-competitive academic environment like houston isd fosters :emlaugh:. You people never learned that a square peg really won't fit a round hole. :retard:

Re: TSU BANNED!

Have you always had that "victim" complex?

If speaking up on behalf of one's alma mater is considered playing the victim's role, then I'm guilty.

Especially when folks filled up three whole threads with jokes when JSU was banned.
My memory isn't as selective as yours.

What's it called when you speak up for Grambling?

I'm still mind blown by that 11%
Is that even legal?

Rick Perry does. He must be hitting some of the sisters he appointed to their board. :retard:

It's mind boggling. "Special needs students." WTF is that? You're alleged to be a university, school of higher learning or are they insinuating that everyone in the "inner city" is mentally deficient requiring special needs @ a higher level? :read: :read:.....................:read: :read:..........and :read: some more. :retard:

It's not about speaking up for one's alma mater... everyone does that. Your is just more whining and "woe is me" in nature. Maybe you were picked on as a child.

You're beginning to sound just like that paperboy. What do you mean it's not about speaking up for one's alma mater? I'm not speaking on behalf of myself. Folks didn't fill up three whole threads with jokes aobut JayRob, they did it towards JSU being banned from the SCG.

If you'd have said the exact same thing to those criticizing JSU in just ONE of those three threads, then your words would hold some weight. Right now you're sounding kind of hypocritical and your words are weightless.

Actually, myself and others spoke out against it...but nevermind. You're an adult so I won't try or will try to change that...just pointing out how you always play the victim with the "they always pick on us".

UH downtown is the last four year institution in the state of Texas with open enrollment. 6 year grad rate 15 percent.
90 percent letting everyone in, 65 percent being exclusive. Not sure if any of us are doing a very good job.

Herb

Your son went to TSU? Wow man...Im so proud. Some folks dont let their kids go to TSU. You are great.

Yes old stupid one that occurs when TSU offers what one student needs and don't offer what another student needs by way of a major...What else do you have with those flip fingers:smh::argue2:

Will you please quit bickering with me?

Hey DCG

You ever notice how no one whines about bickering when JSU is the one being bickered at?

Re: TSU BANNED!

I think you qualify for a clear slate if your school is showing IMPROVEMENT. Somebody help GR.

TSU has been sitting around listening to Charles Mc tell them lies about their APR and "this is our place."
But thats what they get. Ive been trying to tell them for years now that he needs to go.

I haven't read through entire thread but needed to stop at this point and reply to your comments. Charles told the Maroon and Gray Chapter (athletic chapter under Texas Southern University National Alumni Association) aover a year ago that the only sport that would not reach the min. APR was football. We have known a long time that we would be banned from post season play this season. No surprise here- but the issues had been going on long before Charles arrived and the problem is/has been addressed. If things go as planned then we will not have the APR isses in football after 2013.

I believe in Charles as I know that he inherited an athletic program that did not have the leadership under former AD Blackwell. In addition, former TSU president stated on several occasions that she was about academics not athletics which is absurd. You have to show concern for both. It is unfortunate that we have to get through these problems but I feel that we will be all the better in the end. We'll just need to weather the storm and become "creative" in keeping fan interest high during this time.

As noted by my fellow TSU alums, "open enrollment" has hurt the retention and graduation numbers. I've never been for this policy and was glad to see if lifted as of 2008. We have a better crop of students, the retention rate from Freshman to Sophomore year is 70% and there are other initiatives being implemented to continue this upward thread. No doubt low graduation numbers gives the impression to parents, future students, community, and employment centers that academic failures are abound. I stand to argue that assumption! I think there is always an opportunity for improvement on every level at all of our institutions and from our alumni as well as our students. TSU has produced many well-prepared and successful alumni that should never go unnoticed. That said, a better measurement stick of TSU's ability to produce productivity graduates is to look at the percent of our graduates that are working in their perspective fields and the value added to their employers. I reason that you would have a very high percentage of our grads on the positive ledger of the scale.

My persoanl story: I'm a native Houstonian and heard some of the negative stories about TSU. I graduated from Lamar High School with a good GPA, attended Texas Tech (Dean's list) before returning back to Houston to complete my degree at the University of Houston. With the prospect of going to Law School or Pharmacy School family members with pharmacy degrees from Howard, TSU, and Xavier I was encouraged to go to pharmacy school becuse they felt it was more lucrative. I knew that I would attend TSU's pharmacy school because of the stellar reputation of its program. I only applied to TSU's pharmacy school, enrlolled, graduated, and have a successful career. Having attended PWCs I can say that the quality of my education at TSU was on par, as good, or better than at the PWCs. TSU provided the quality education that was needed in my profession and I know that I made the right "choice" and will remain an adamant supporter of the University. So, how do I support TSU that I speak so highly of? I'm so glad that you ask- 1) I have established a scholarship in my name to a deserving pharmacy male student in the amount of $1,000 that is awarded annully for my entire lifetime and hope to increase the amount in the near future; 2) my vehicles have the TSU collegiate license plates which provides a way to promote and advertise my school- which is priceless; 3) I have enough TSU Paraphernalia to open a small store; 4) take the time to express my concern to administration for things that I feel need to imptrove and praise for the things that they are doing well; 5) take the time to write to The Houston Chronicle and local TV stations if I feel their reporting is negative and/or biased; 6) Ask current students and recent graduates about their experiences at TSU and share those concerns with administrators; and 7) Taking this time to address these "haters" on this thread about a school (my school) that you have no inside knowledge or experience. At the end of the day, my degree will always read TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY and for that reason negativity devalues my degree and positivity adds value. I call it protecting my investment and maximizing my return.

There are quite a bit of HBCU presidents and high profile administrators that share the same philosophy. I have said it a couple of times. Many on this board would be surprised at the mind set.

mhurd97,

Does the graduation rate have something to do with the working class demographics of the school? I know SUNO although much smaller in the past has been a commuter college so to speak that have a lot students that work full time and attend school (non traditional students). This could be one of the reasons that the 4-6 year graduation threshold is not being met.

I want everyone to stop bickering because it is not good when any of our HBCU's are in this position. We can throw mud at each other, but get defensive when we talk about crooked BCS Schools like Ohio St. that barley graduates any black athletes.

I think this board is way past that Wahines
