TIMEOUT!!! THE SWAC OFFICIALS ARE KILLING THIS LEAGUE!!

That's Y I asked if there was a Head League Official...what these refs are doing is embarrasing to the league, the schools, the fans and most of all themselves. This is not some little PeeWee football league...So, if they can't get things right, they need to be fired or let go or whatever u want to call it...

Yes there is a supervisor of officials. I said this in a previous thread, but the older guys need to go. They are the ones who seem to make the same mistakes all the time. I know a number of the younger refs and they are very knowledgeable, but if they are not crew chiefs a lot of times they get overridden on calls. One guy who did the PV game last week also does C-USA and has done a few D1A bowl games.

The SWAC needs to follow suit of other leagues at the FCS level and get agreements with an FBS league to share information, referees and more...

Southland has such a deal with the Big XII and I've seen a few other conferences do similar deals. Perhaps, the SWAC can sign on with the SEC or C-USA...

Southland Notebook: SLC, Big 12 join forces to improve football officiating

Nicholls State becomes first league team to beat FBS opponent this season

In an attempt to insure the Southland Conference will field quality football officials this season and in the future, the league is teaming up with the Big 12 by sharing referees and holding training clinics throughout the year.

The idea was brought up by SLC commissioner Tom Burnett and Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe as a way to help both leagues.

The Southland has been a building stone for future Big 12 officials, and this is a way for both conferences to take advantage of each other?s resources.

The move was announced this summer at the SLC Football Media Days and started Thursday night during Sam Houston State?s game against Angelo State.

?Anytime, regardless of the subject matter, when you can make an advance forward and improve what you got, you have to be pleased with that,? Burnett said in July. ?I think historically you will find, and (SLC coordinator of football officials) Byron (Boston) brought it up, that 10 of the NFL officials got their start in the Southland Conference.

There are SWAC refs who are also C-USA refs already.

If you read the article, it goes a step further...

The Big XII is reviewing film of SLC games, having SLC guys work Big XII games and vice-versa, having SLC refs go to Big XII training clinics and much more. We're basically the minor league referee system to the Big XII. They send their guys down to help groom our guys and some of our guys go get a 'cup of tea' from them with professional oversight from the director of Big XII officiating, a Sam Houston State alum, Walt Anderson (who officiates NFL games)...

In my opinion, there is a difference between interpetation/missing a close play that can be addressed by reviewing the play at the FBC (formerly I-A)level, but often times the SWAC referees make bad calls, interpret the rules incorrectly, incorrect terminology, and have bad general officiating errors throughout the game that would not be addressed by having the opportunity to review a given play. It makes SWAC football difficult for coaches to coach, players to play, announcers to announce, broadcasters to broadcast, and fans to watch.

Sup Jafus, I agree with you man. In the Alcorn-Valley game they had 30 flags on top of 14 fumbles, very ugly game.

Those sorry @ss refs helped JSU out TOO much during today's game. That was some bull isht

Helped JSU out? We got 12 penalties. I'd hate to think what they would've done if they weren't helping us out. We had more penalty yards than AAMU had TOTAL rushing yards. Sheesh!! Give me a break.:dizzy:

Not having instant replay is also hurting the SWAC.

Then ask Pine Bluff how they ran their mouth off to a ref and got a JSU touchdown overturned!!!!!

No ref saw....
No flag.....

But hey the refs did it all on WORD of mouth....................

then of course the nice cheating SWAC refs gave Jackson State the screw job vs Grambling

I swear any and every kind of penalty you can call, they called it Saturday. I ain't gone even talk about that bullisht pass interference call on a ball that was horribly underthrown and uncatchable.

I've sais this all year! It doesn't matter until it happens to your team! The players work too hard to be subjected to a mofo in a stripped shirt being a fan and missing calls or creating calls that do not exist!

I remember a game when the line judge was watching our dancers instead of the action on the field!

I thought Jimmy won it for us with 391 yards passing and 4 td? :uhoh:

He had a good game, but it was the non-calls and the blatantly inept officiating that sealed the deal for you. I would like to say that they(ref's) were cheating, but that would imply that they actually knew what they were doing and I don't feel that was the case. They were just sorry ref's and we came out on the short end of the deal this time. I'm sure it will all work out in the end it always does. Have a good rest of the season.

Man, just let it go. Like I said earlier, JSU got 12 penalties for 84 yards, while A&M only got 6 penalties for a whopping 25 yards. In other words, JSU had twice as many penalties for three times as many yards, yet you're still complaining? Huh!!

I didnt even notice the 12 men until watching the replay.... the funny thing about it is MOST of the A&M lineman were pointing to him while he was running of the field and the refs still didnt make the call. He lined up in the backfield then realized he wasnt suppose to be on the field, ran off then no call was made.

Very bad call, that was on 4th down on the game winning drive. If not for that call, Valley would have won the game, so I'll say the officials cost Valley the game. But hell, Valley probably would have fumble again and gave us another chance. LOL

interesting.....

Morehouse vs. Clark Atlanta refs suspended
Crew placed under review due to faulty calls

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference suspended three football officials for one game and placed their entire crew under review after several incorrect assessments were made in the Oct. 20 game between Morehouse and Clark Atlanta.

Clark Atlanta argued and presented video evidence to SIAC supervisor of officials Moses Norman that referees missed two calls that would have resulted in touchdowns. Morehouse won the game 22-13.

Clark appeared to score just before halftime on a run from the 1-yard line, but the officials ruled the runner had not broken the plane of the goal. A punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter was negated by an illegal block call that was not supported by videotape evidence.

SIAC commissioner William E. Lide wrote in a letter to crew members, "The conference must protect the integrity of officiating in the SIAC. It must be above reproach. The two calls were significant and could have altered the outcome of the game."

Lide "admonished" the entire crew and will not allow its members to be considered to represent the SIAC in the NCAA Division II playoffs or in the Pioneer Bowl.

You know, I could see if it were a call that could be a judgement call (pass interference, holding, etc.), but when there are 12 on the field, those calls should never be overlooked.

The SWAC wouldn't have any refs left if they started doing this.
