TIgers searching for big fish - JSU seeks FBS Opponent for 2011 or FAMU

Re: JSU seeks FBS Opponent for 2011 or FAMU

And for the last time, no one is "scared" to play D-2 schools. I just don't see any upside to playing Delta State. They weren't even in the top 3 of the teams we played last year.

I don't know who you would consider the top 3 but I am sure that Delta State would have been a handful for every team we played.

I wouldn't call an easy opponent a "waste". It might be for a Gatech but strength of schedule actually means something to them. It means nothing to us.

Honestly, there would be no way in hell I would pay $25 or $30 to see JSU play somebody like winless Savannah State in Memorial Stadium...........UNLESS IT WAS HOMECOMMING and I would not be there for the game. Outside of homecomming, I would stay at home with my grill or jump in the car to go to another game somewhere.

Unfortunately, most of our fans feel the same way about Delta State. They could care less about the opponent unless it's SU or Alcorn. The same 12K we got for Delta, we can get from any number of schools.

We gotta get beyond this mindset, though. We have to get to the point where we're going to see our team. The opponent should not matter. JSU can play William Carey in Bismark, SD. Guess where I'm gonna be at kickoff??? I might not like the choice of opponent, but I love my team. So I will be there to cheer.

So we don't care to play GOOD D2 teams. We surely don't like crap D2 teams. Half the teams in the conference, people don't care to watch. And we don't care to watch FCS PWC's. But people jump up and down at the thought of getting beat 60-0 by a Powerhouse FBS PWC for a check. Again.........Why are we wasting money on D1 sports? :noidea:

And even more laughable, there are people that actually want to MOVE UP in classification. :lmao:

I remember years ago we played a good D-2 team at home(New haven). And it was a good, exciting game. There might've been 7K in attendance. Delta State is a more known of course, but this game should've caught on by now. Their fans aren't interested for whatever reason.

Robber, you may be right but that mindset isn't going to change anytime soon. A new Stadium on campus is the only thing I can think of that would.

And you're insane if you'd go all the way to SD to see us play William Carey. I know it was a joke but still.

Dude, that was no joke. Swing by the office on the Friday before that game and Ray will tell you I'm flying to SD. I don't miss games. Home or away.

I say we need to bring in a good D2 or FCS team and call it a day no matter how you look at no one is gonna bring in a good crowd to Jackson I attended the Delta State game last season and it was a nice crowd for it to be the first game.......and we really need to get beyond this who bringing fans and who's not mess! Bring in a good team that we can play and beat and call it day Delta State, UNA, SELA ULL schools like that!.........Some of you are funny :scared:as hell im not gonna say any names but you complain about our coaching staff not having quality wins and this or that now you want us to play sum pushover just for the sake of having a nice fan showing!:shame::lecture:

You say our strength of schedule does not count I guess because we don't go to the playoffs but I don't agree with that either. We have had BCF teams ranked in the top 10 in 1-AA in the last 20 years. If we win the SWAC with a weak schedule we may not even crack the top 25. Every small thing counts. I don't believe in the 1-AA playoffs so my mindset could be different than others. There are lots of other goals to shoot for. It could also help our QB in Payton award votes. We get zero strenght of schedule points if we play a 14-0 Delta State or a 0-11 Stillman so SOS had no bearing on a computer ranking. However, public opinion means a lot....and I have a problem with a weak opponent when we already play in the SWAC. It's a waste of a week. EVERY TIME you step on the field, you should be challenged. I didn't have a problem with starting the Comegy era with Paul Quinn because we had just left the **** era and that game was just for fans to come out and see Comegy. We are way beyond that now. So again, if we are going to get 12K fans for ANYONE we play, we should find the best opponent we can. We fired Hughes not because of the 7 games he won but the 4 he lost. We fired him becasue he rarely beat a decent opponent. Decent opponents matter to JSU fans. I don't like scheduling down at all really but if we do, we need to go it against a D2 team that could stand toe to toe with a good 1-AA team.

Now, since I have been schooled on the fact that 2012 is not a 12 game season for 1-AA schools. I don't think we need to sign a home-home contract. We definitely need to bring in a good D2 team or find a Classic. If the 2012 season is already set, our new AD will have time to work on the 2013 schedule. Braddy should just focus on finding a good opponent for this year.
