TIgers searching for big fish - JSU seeks FBS Opponent for 2011 or FAMU

Re: TIgers searching for big fish!

We done went Money game Crazy, dont Jstate already have MS State next year?

Re: TIgers searching for big fish!

They'd never agree to it, but Southern Miss needs to come down to Memorial and yall split the gate 50/50 to open the season!

JSU does not play MSU next year. Wouldnt that be 12 games?
The article clearly states who we play next year.
9 SWAC + Tnsu = 10
An 11th FBS opponent is being worked out.

MSU is 2012 not 2011

lol they would never..... But Id like to do the home/away with Famu
That would be an attractive game for both schools!
JSU vs famu in the wc Gordon classic 2011

Re: TIgers searching for big fish!

I think a FAMUan will come here and let us know that they don't have an opening. I don't think they do. I don't mind playing 1A teams in the years that we have 12 games. Other than that, we need to stick to good D2 teams and 1-AA teams.

Re: TIgers searching for big fish!

FAMU has a opening next year they got miami in 2012 and UCF in 2013.....From my famu source its also som rumblings about getting out the Tn st game to play SU in Atlanta Classic the next couple of years

Interesting. Don't know how that will go over. But I would love to see SU and FAMU be able to work out a schedule. We still have 3 games left on the contract we signed a few years ago with them. The MEAC adding teams prevented us from playing.

Yeah I think that what they was trying to do work out the already established contract if i am not mistaken when I was in hs they used to play that atlanta classic famu vs su I know for sure they did in 95 cause I remember them both playing " who can I run too" by excape for halftime

So does Bama State and I'm hearing rumblings of a matchup in 2011.

That is why I can't see them playing JSU. However, I must admit that I am not a MEAC expert right now. I am not sure how they will handle their scheduling issues.

SU vs FAMU in ATL may not go over well. I do recall in 1995 when FAMU and SU played but I don't think that was the ATL Classic. I think that one was called the Budweiser Football Classic. I think TNState played SCState in the ATL classic that year. TNSTate has been the mainstay in the classic for years. FAMU was brought in to increase revenue.

I do think that the ATL can handle two classics tho. The JSU-A&T game there was good and I think other teams have a market in ATL as well.. ie AlaState, SCState and maybe AAMU.

The attendance in that game has taken a few hits. I think they used to give our a lot of free tickets due to corporate sponsorships but I don't think that is the case anymore with this economy. Thing is, I don't see FAMU and TNState breaking their series. If they stopped playing, they would have to go to home-home or stop playing. With the MEAC and SWAC having so many conference members now, scheduling is not as easy as it used to be. :(

JSU seeks FBS Opponent for 2011 or FAMU

OK JSU fans.
At least we have started "early" on this scheduling thingie. Bout time someone got aggressive and stopped looking at the same old same old. What would you want? FBS or FAMU?

Braddy is looking for a payout of at least $500,000 from an FBS opponent. If a FBS opponent can't be had, he wants a home and home with FAMU. JSU/FAMU has touched bases on that. Problem with FAMU is JSU would have to play 11 str8 weeks with no bye week which is not good for the team. Talks with Oregon State dropped off because they don't have September 3rd open.

Braddy also said he would turn down an invite to the SWAC/MEAC Challenge in Orlando if asked.:weee:

Tigers seek FBS opponent for Sept. 3, 2011.

Jackson State is searching for a team from the Football Bowl Subdivision to complete its 2011 football schedule, athletic director Bob Braddy said this week.

The Tigers' schedule is set except for the season opener Sept. 3. Braddy said the school would like to schedule "a money game" with an FBS (Division I-A) program for that date. The school, Braddy said, is looking for a payout in the $500,000 range.
"We've got some feelers out," Braddy said. "The problem is the date."
Most FBS schools already have their 2011 schedules set. Oregon State was interested in playing JSU, Braddy said, but the Beavers' opening was not Sept. 3.

Why FAMU? FAMU's fans never travel to Jackson, not a good idea!

That's the same thing that I was thinking. Plus, didn't FAMU hoe Alabama State on their return trip to Montgomery via the MEAC mandate? I'm not willing to take that chance with FAMU.

I say continue to look for an FBS opponent and eventually leave this raggedy conference.

I say keep looking also because playing 11 str8 games just ain't doing our guys right.
They will need a mid-season break.

Since 2011 is our so-called travel year, I expect Braddy will target the first game in Jackson if it turns out to be FAMU in a home and home. As for FAMU traveling to Jackson, we will make that up with people in Jackson. Bamma A@M didn't bring 500 people to Jackson and we still got 24,000 for that game. When have we ever had 24,000 at a Bamma A@M game. We keep winning, bringing FAMU in will put hometown butt's in the seats in a travel year.

Good points. Our guys are going to need a break and our fans will definately show up next season.

BTW, I'm down with making FAMU come to Jackson before we make a trip to Tallahassee. I don't trust them at all. :smh:

Didn't FAMU do the same thing to Southern? FAMU can't be trusted to play a home and home series. I'll schedule Delta State again instead of FAMU if JSU can't schedule an FBS schoool.

We had 38K for the FAMU game in 1996 and we had like 28K for Howard in 1997. FAMU for Labor Day weekend in Jackson might be a good look!

Option 1.) Schedule Delta State or Albany State (they actually play this weekend)...or even Fort Valley
Option 2.) Schedule a home-home (I would love to see JSU along the EAST coast)
Option 3.) Hold out for a Classic invite in Detroit, Chicago,etc... or ESPN Challenge
Option 4.) Schedule a FBS opponent :( (last resort)

The MEAC forced them too. They had to get SC State to move around a game just for us to play the last time in BR a few years ago. The MEAC added teams. Which at the time was Winston Salem was not a full member yet. Ironically WSSU decided to head back to the CIAA. So I wouldn't blame FAMU for them not being able to play us. They came to Mumford. So they owe us 1 more trip and we owe them 2 trips to Tally Ho. So it really hurt them by not being able to have us as a home game that next season. They were pissed. That rivalry was special between the schools.

Especially if you can get the 100 to come. You can add another 5-10K to your attendance.

We both know, Jackson State don't draw crowds like that anymore, unless it's Alcorn or Southern! After 1999 JSU's attendance went on a hiatus!
