We both know, Jackson State don't draw crowds like that anymore, unless it's Alcorn or Southern! After 1999 JSU's attendance went on a hiatus!

Basically. I say leave FAMU all together alone and link up with Albany or Tuskegee in Jackson. Makes no sense for us to bring a nice crowd and Boom to Tallahassee when they won't do the same. We'll get the same size, or larger, crowd playing TU in Jackson as we would FAMU.

Actually FAMU fans do travel...especially coming off of a MEAC Championship season and it being the opening game.Remember FAMU and Southern brought over 30,000 to the MEAC/SWAC Challenge back in '07...and that was with a horrible team.

However, the MEAC may be going to a 7 game mandate which would definitely open scheduling up for us.

You are correct. However, we just drew 24k twice this year...in a rebuilding year. Once we got to winning, our fans came back. Our attendance got higher with every game that we had to pull on our own. 24K is not far from the 28K we had for Howard.

FAMU travelled well to Baton Rouge... It may be the opponent FAMU folk get up for..

FAMU AND SU didnt bring that entire 30,000.... any major game in Birmingham is going to have support from the locals.. especially to start the season off.... The same way the Tuskegee and Miles game had 40k the day after (night games will bring in more people)

Check the NCAA attendance record since Comegy has been here. Our attendance has went up at least 4,000 every year. When Bell left, we was down to the 11,000 mark. Before Bell, we was averaging in the mid 20's under HUGHS.

Now that we are winning again, look for the average to continue to climb. :nod:

If you calculate attendance alone. Hiring Bell cost the University a few million dollars. That does not include concessions.

If we play FAMU, it would not be the first game according to Braddy. He is looking for a FBS school to play on Labor Day weekend for the first game. If we can't get that, he said a game against FAMU would be on the open date down in the season and Labor Day weekend would be our open date.

Basically we would start the season with Tennessee State and play 11 str8 games.
That ain't good. I'd rather schedule OKRA again for that 1st game tune up if that is the case and keep our open date in October.

You guys have a rivaly with FAMU..you played 50 straight years or something like that. JSU and FAMU have only played about 16 times. The game we drew 38K for FAMU was a year when JSU and FAMU were both ranked in the top 15 in the nation. We were both defending champs and undefeated. FAMU was #1 in the Sheridan and JSU was #2. When FAMU left, we were #1. For the Howard game, they were coming to Jackson fresh off of whooping SUs azz in the Heritage Bowl. I think JSU was predicted to win the SWAC and Howard was predicted to win the MEAC and we were 1 and 2 in the Sheridan. Again, JSU won. So basically, what I am trying to say is that JSU fans come out to see good football. The first game of the season with FAMU in Jackson would be a treat for JSU fans. I'm sure FAMUs band won't come but our fans won't know that until they get there... :lol:

FAMU plays a lot of schools more than they have ever played SU and our crowds still packs the house in Baton Rouge and in Tally...

I think we had a better marketing strategy too. 22K people at $10 is the same as 11K for $20. :lecture: I also like how they sold those last three home games as a package (SU, AAMU, PV) for $50. This gives people in Jackson a reason to buy tickets in bulk. No sense in buying two single game tickets for $40-$50 when you can get 3 games for $50. 1-AA schools up here charge $8 to $12 for games. I live around the corner from Villanova and they have dirt cheap tickets and they won the National championship last year.

And they CROWD want to see SU ...like wise with our crowd compared to some of our confence schools.

Especially if you can get the 100 to come. You can add another 5-10K to your attendance.

If I remember correctly, everyone assumed FAMUs band was coming to that game. that accounted for some of the crowd. Plus our football program was on a high. If we scheduled FAMU and their band now, we might draw 35K. But no more than that unless they bring a good crowd.

We'd like a game with a more crowd interest. DSU doesn't bring or attract anyone. We need about 25-30K paying fans to get the numbers we're looking for.
