This is for the Jukebox old heads

Man, this clip has truly brought a tear to my eyes. This is the day that changed my entire life, forever. Up until that day, I was Grambling State bound and no one on this earth could tell me that there was anything better than GSU. I had never seen "The Marching Human Jukebox" and the only thing I knew about school was that they were the team that was suppose to lose to Grambling every November.

August 30th,1986, Southern University played Delaware st at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, LA, my and Doc's hometown. This was the 1st time Southern had been in Shreveport since 1974 and my dad bought $5 endzone seats. My 1st reaction to the band was, "Man they are big." They had 192 on the field. 2nd reaction, "Got d@mn, they are powerful!" I could feel the sound hitting me in my stomach. 3rd reaction, "That sound is clean, articulate, and they sound exactly like the radio was playing the song." Cool, but I am still going to Grambling in the fall of 88. Southern did pregame, very good show. "Cool, but I am still going to Grambling." They are an all male band. "Cool, but I am still going to Grambling." Southern performed a standard 10 minute halftime show: Opening drill. "love is the key;" 2nd drill, "enough is enough;" dolls danced to "get it on;" and dance routine "sex machine" by the fat boys; Crowd is going crazy but the band is exiting the field and they are the only college band in the stadium. Plus, this is doc's hometown and "this band hasn't been in S'port in 21 years an this is all we're gonna get?" Band is marching to the stands and the fans are pissed and start booing. Doc summons the band back to the field and get them in concert formation and cranks up "Sweet Love."(What you've just seen on video.) "Daddy, where is Southern and how long does it take for us to drive there."

True story! This is how Jukebox 89 was conceived. The two songs that truly won me over was "Sweet Freedom" and "Say La." Got d@mn!

Something else i will never forget. I learned something about how serious band members are about the wearing of band shirts when you are not a member of the band. There was a young lady there, standing in front of the band wearing a "Human Jukebox" sweatshirt. The band marched out of the stadium telling the young lady to "take that shirt off, b!tch!"

JR, tell me if I was at that game.

Dayum man...you remember all that? The only thing I remember was being in the stadium tryin to holla at some Port City chicks out there.

Real Talk... I remember when the band did that and couldn't wait to tell my classmates what they did. Of course, most of them was there. My uncle got us tickets being that he lived in S'Port at that time(he's now running for State Rep vacated by the Mayor).

Matter of fact, you may know 3 of my cousins who are your frat brothers. Last name Jackson from Geismar.

Crystal Ross is your sister? Man, I did not know that. I do believe she was one of "my" dolls as I crabbed 83'.
No offence, but if that is the same Crystal, she is beautiful.

Nah there are no ex SU DMs on the board. Some may lurk but never post.

I know my LB Derrick "Oops" Moss who DM in 85,86, and 87 checks out the board sometimes. He is the DM in the above clip in 86. Hmmm that is interesting of all the Jukes on the board we have no DMs posting.

LOL. You shole was there...........Delaware State had John Taylor at WR before he went on to the 49ers. You have a better memory of that than I do. LOL. We marched 192 for that game.

Tall, fine, beautiful and best of all, "big ole pretty eyes"! Oh the memories of the "Doll" line that we had back in the day.
Ah, some things, and people, really made it all the more worth the while.

Yep she shole was.............we used to be like  :ebrow: at Crystal..........

Yeah, we know.....

Speaking of DMs.......has that DM son of yours decided where he is going next fall? Tell T, we got to keep the tradition his Daddy and big brother going in the Juke. Don't let Uncle JR have to come down to the ATL and haze him. We need him to be SU DM in 08 or 09. LOL

Sis, you like those DM's huh?:D

Yeah, I think Jukebox89 was drum major for a few games but there is nothing like a cymbal playa... Once you get that you'll never go back!

LOL at Zock. Frat you are off the chain. So Jukebox 89 was a DM? What happened to G.Banks or Celestine during that time? Grace was your crab DM wasn't he?

You know your Frat G. was mischievous back then so he was always in trouble with Doc. I don't remember how that happened but Port City was pretty good with the stick.

BTW, Grace was my DM in '88. He was a freshman in '87. I couldn't stand his country arse....as a crab:angry: Those '87 boyz- Grace, D Minor, and Cryer were inseparable back then.

Well, he has fellow HS DMs at SU, FAMU, TennST, and SCSU. He is now starting to flip flop about his major and suddenly, he has an interest in Music Education versus Engineering. However, you know SU ALWAYS has the inside edge, but if the scholarship $$$ weigh heavily in another direction, he may be persuaded. But c'mon bruh, you know that #2 son is B-Tone crazy, so I think he will choose the "S"....

LOL. Grace's other name was "Carpet Fresh" with his Clinton country arse.

I am sure as a crab you did not want to see them 3 coming. Especially since they were still neos due to no 88 line.

View the sig, baby...view the sig. Don't hate cuz y'all can't backbend like ole boy. :emlaugh:

LOL. We'll have to get our young frat bro Lewis Broadway in your sig to post one day. This was his last rip as DM though.......it will be a new DM next fall.

BT,
Now you know dang on well our arses are too old to get low like the old days. :goof:
