Do you ever play w/the Alumni Jukes, for HC?

I played the last time we had an alumni band... We need to get that started up again. That was alot of fun. Seeing all the past DM come out and backbend. Well the ones who still can that is. Now I can still play my trumpet. That hasn't changed. I will give some of these young uns a run for there money and some of them I will blow their arse out.:lecture:

Dayum man...you remember all that? The only thing I remember was being in the stadium tryin to holla at some Port City chicks out there. :lol:

Real Talk... I remember when the band did that and couldn't wait to tell my classmates what they did. Of course, most of them was there. My uncle got us tickets being that he lived in S'Port at that time(he's now running for State Rep vacated by the Mayor).

Matter of fact, you may know 3 of my cousins who are your frat brothers. Last name Jackson from Geismar.

Man, when you have an experience like that, you are suppose to remeber every detail. There is alot more that I recall, but it was late. Is Theron Jackson your cousin?

Sis, you like those DM's huh?:D

Yeah, I think Jukebox89 was drum major for a few games but there is nothing like a cymbal playa... Once you get that you'll never go back!:nod:

Thanks, Zock. I completely overlooked the post. This is true. I was in the Army reserve, Doc jumped the gun because he did not know of my arrangement with the military, and that is how you had a freshman DM in 1992.

No...but I remember him back in those Baptist Youth Encampment days.

Aaahhh Crystal, she was captain me and JR's Crab Year ('84). I believe she was a Senior at the time. I was like made she got it going on... She was always so nice to everyone, even the goggly eyes crabs... :-)

Wow... Small world... You're tied to Eric Baskin and crew and Crystal. Its amazing how we are from different era's of the Juke and yet link in multiple ways nonetheless...

Peace...

Z,thats soooooooo true..Small world..Marching in the JUKEBOX is,,,

PRICELESS

Crystal Ross is your sister? Man, I did not know that. I do believe she was one of "my" dolls as I crabbed 83'.
No offence, but if that is the same Crystal, she is beautiful.

:lmao: Thats her...Thats another reason why I have sooooooooo much love for you guy's..Like I always say,,

WE ARE ONE

With a name like Taylor-Made, you know the real deal...

That's how we were in the day. We did our best to embarrass the heck out of the opposing band during the game, but we kick it with each other out of the stadium. We traveled to visit and hang out with each other and we would stay behind after games to kick it with each other - arranging our own way back to our school. We loved marching band and the art of causing our crowds to love us for our craft. That screaming was sooooo addictive. We strove to achieve it every show. It hurt deep if they didn't receive the scream like the women in "5 Heartbeats" or the women in the ole' Beatles clips. You looked forward to post-game love from the fans and all the love from the campus on Monday. Yes sir, this is how it is supposed to be. That is why so many of us from our band and across bands are friends to this date. It?s all about the work, the passion and the love for the craft.

Peace...

I hear ya! That show was flawless! It should be like that today. Brotherhood regardless if you pledged or not. You have to love the craft and work hard during practices even though you have to go the class the next morning. NO Excuses Baby!

Oh no, there shouldn't be excuses. We use to have a saying with about 8 minutes before halftime:
Start thinking about the show;
Pick up your feet, drive and blow.
Start thinking about the show,
Cause if you mess/f*** up
You want march no more.

It was true and was merely a reminder. Example: In 1985, there was a heck of a Freshman trombone (I'm pretty sure he was in Squad 1 with the Band Captain). The show was on BET and we were probably doing the STAR drill. I say that, because while in the Circles and while rotating the Circles, this Freshman trombone (driving and blowing his a** off) whipped turned 4 steps too fast (that's down front near the 50 yard line. He had the presence of mind to simply whip right back and whip back again when he was suppose to do it, to continue the show. With Doc being down front, he noticed the whip (since we use to really push poppin' the whips so that the caps would pop and the plums would flash). But, he wasn't looking right at it and didn't see exactly who it was. Usually either upper-classmen or a Reserve who wants to get on the field would rat you out. But, this guy was tight and the bones didn't want him off the field (they wanted to handle that one on their own in sectionals). So, the rest of us complied and wouldn't tell Doc who it was because our bandroom footage was had them just out of view where they couldn't see what squad or position he was in. Yet, with it being on TV, BET had it clear, and Doc was able to run it down by Tuesday or Wednesday from someone who taped the game. That kid never saw the field again, though it appeared by Bayou Classic he may make it back. But, he didn't.

The other reason was due to how critical our student body was to us. I recall comments like: "Ya'll mess up Saturday. Part of the 3rd line on the backside was dragging behind after ya'll came out of the Pin-Wheels". I'm like, heck naw. Guess what, when we saw the film on Monday, we may have seen 2 or 3 crabs a half step shy of the line or over the line due not adjusting the steps from the Pin-Wheel. I'm like darn! That's too observant for just ordinary fans. "Ya'll are slippin'" "Ya'll aren't kickin' it like last year (or another specific year that was a favorite of theirs)". It was for this reason, that we loved to travel, since the critiques were far fewer. But, when we could give the Jags what they wanted, man, the love expressed was crazy! So, it balanced out.

Between the tough critiques on campus and our desire to never disappoint and ole' schooler who dropped in on us and due to our opponents, there never room for excuses. As you can see from the clips, the pressure that we placed on each other and ourselves paid high dividends.

Peace...

~~~waiting for the OFFICIAL Jukebox historian SUtrp96 to come VALIDATE this thread~~~
:D:D:D
lol...I do have a better tape of that.... Much clearer... On the break you don't really hear the Fhorns that good.. but on my tape same performance cause I have both (I have that footage too).. Anywho, on the break the fhorns have this sound that covers the whole dayum stadium.. you can kind of hear it on that tape.... but they had to have over 20 mellos... Not discrediting this years mellos, because their number were changing threw out the season.. but that is how 20 + mellos are supposed to sound... You would have to hear the clearer tape of that to hear what I am talking about...
My padna Herk was a crab on snare that year (86)... That was the first game of the season in Shreveport, that was after the drill, they brought the whole band on the field, I believe the annoucer said it was 230....They ran like 4 or 5 songs in that formation, talk about SOUND!!!!!! And fromn what I was told by 86 crabs and 83 crabs, they was not satisfied with the sound at THAT point with what is on that clip.. I was like are them 83 cats crazy?!?!?! But after I watched 83 clips I saw where they was coming from.. Put it like this 83 marched 128 on the field... If I had to compare...86 should have had a few more watts to to satisfy what 83 was putting out with on 128...
But then again that was a different time.. Because I never heard nor saw another 128 or bigger from SU that could touch 83....
And the 83 cats always talking about 78.. That's the band I really want to hear....:tup: Because if you hear 93 and hear how they lower themselves to 78... 78 had to have been some Jurasic Park shat because 83 was UNREAL!!!!
Oh yeah, I believe Randy Jackson played T-bone.... One of my close friends that was Juke 2 years after me father and uncle march with them cats. His father or uncle was Band Captain in 79 I believe.... Jeff Reese and his brother can't remember his name...
Any of you Jukes remember marching with Eric Jones?... This cat talk like he was the man of all men in the S back in the early mid and even late 70's....lol He cool people...
LOL at Zock. Frat you are off the chain. So Jukebox 89 was a DM? What happened to G.Banks or Celestine during that time? Grace was your crab DM wasn't he?
I crabbed in 89 because I was in basic training fall of 88. I came right behind Celestine and before Chandler. That explains the crab dm in 92
Alright. Keith pledged me and I pledged Kenny and Curt. Curt is here in Houston.
oh, he was, huh? :eek:
jukebox89, you holdin' out on me? Where are your backbend shots? I will put them in my sig, too. :nod:
I am not holding out. I don't have a single photo of me in uniform. Ho-frat-Ho video, can't find. Senior Bowl 92 was a thunderstorm and during the mardi gras season, I was pledging and taking pictures were not on my mind.
