Capitol Police rejected offers of federal help to quell mob

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three days before supporters of President Donald Trump rioted at the Capitol, the Pentagon asked the U.S Capitol Police if it needed National Guard manpower. And as the mob descended on the building Wednesday, Justice Department leaders reached out to offer up FBI agents. The police turned them down both times, according to senior defense officials and two people familiar with the matter.
Despite plenty of warnings of a possible insurrection and ample resources and time to prepare, the Capitol Police planned only for a free speech demonstration.

Still stinging from the uproar over the violent response by law enforcement to protests last June near the White House, officials also were intent on avoiding any appearance that the federal government was deploying active duty or National Guard troops against Americans.

I call BS to this, there is a conspiracy going on about this. If the Pentagon was so worried, why did they deny the Maryland Governor from sending in the National Guard when it was known there was trouble?

Hoyer says rioters destroyed display commemorating John Lewis

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said Thursday that the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol Wednesday destroyed a display outside his office honoring the late congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis.

“While rioters shamefully destroyed this tribute to my brother John Lewis yesterday, let his words continue to echo in the halls of Congress and in our hearts,” Hoyer tweeted. “Let us always stand up, speak up, and speak out against injustice and for our democracy.”

The display pictured by Hoyer features a quote from the Georgia Democrat, “When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just; you have to stand up, speak up, speak out, and find a way to get in the way and get in trouble. Good trouble. Necessary trouble.”

An Allentown, Pennsylvania, teacher has been "temporarily relieved" of his teaching duties" until his school district can complete a formal investigation in his alleged involvement at the protests.
"We understand that many members of our community are upset by the image," the Allentown School District said in a statement. "At the same time, the district has an obligation to respect the First Amendment rights of our staff and students."

ed Cruz said something truly remarkable -- like, truly -- in an interview with a Houston TV station on Thursday.
"The President's language and rhetoric often goes too far," the Texas senator said straight-facedly. "I think, yesterday in particular, the President's language and rhetoric crossed the line and it was reckless. I disagree with it, and I have disagreed with the President's language and rhetoric for the last four years."

Yup! You read that right. The Texas Republican senator, who not only has stood by Trump through thick and thin over the past few years but also was one of a handful of senators who voted to object to the Electoral College results following a riot at the US Capitol on Wednesday, actually uttered these words, "I disagree with it, and I have disagreed with the President's language and rhetoric for the last four years."
It would be sort of funny -- in a get-a-load-of-this-guy way -- if it wasn't so incredibly disingenuous.

Cruz has spent the last four years sucking up to Trump in any way he can think of.

The siege of Capitol Hill in the US capital Washington DC by the supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump has shaken the entire world. While the Republicans and Democrats, along with world leaders, have condemned the ‘attack on democracy’, a video has emerged which shows President Donald Trump’s team dancing in joy moments before the riots on Wednesday.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows President Donald Trump, his sons Donald Trump Junior and Eric, daughter Ivanka, advisor Kimberly Guilfoyle and other senior officials including White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in a makeshift tent. At the beginning of the video, they can be seen observing the crowd gathered around Capitol Hill on the monitors installed in the tent.

Idaho man Josiah Colt, 34, was one of the rioters who proudly swarmed into the US Capitol. In fact, he's the subject of a couple of the more iconic images of the takeover of the Senate chamber, which had to be evacuated Wednesday because he and his domestic terrorist pals were breaking windows and smashing open doors to make their way into the building, and then into the rooms where all of Congress was hiding under desks.

And after bragging on social media about his role in saving America from tyranny through a very reasonable coup attempt, Colt, from the Boise suburb of Meridian, now wants you to know just how sorry he is that he got all swept up in the moment, OK? Particularly because his name and photo are all over the news. Sounds sincere to us!

In a now-deleted comment on a friend's Facebook post announcing their planned trip to Washington, Colt confidently explained, in some very original language,

It's time to fight for the freedom of this country from getting bulldozed by the domestic terrorists in office pushing Chinese communist agendas and ideology while stripping our freedoms away one by one. [...] Now is the time to fight.
