I'll probably catch some flack from my fellow G-Men. In fact, I'm sure of it... but sometimes some things are worth taking a little ribbing or condemnation.
I'm a baseball guy...it has always been the sport that I loved and loved to play. But if you've ever had a chance to coach the sport and teach the game to young folk, you will understand the importance of teaching patience, hard work, and character. It's an awesome sport and yet it can be humbling as one must learn to deal with temporary failure in your effort to obtain long term success.
Coach Roger Cador is a baseball guy... I've known him as a casual acquaintance for numerous years and I have watched how he works to promote the game of baseball in general and Southern University in particular. The latter I respect him for, but it is the former that I admire him for. The promotion of SU baseball is his profession, but sharing his love of the game is his passion. It is good for the game, good for his school, and good for our conference.
With his recent health concerns, I don't know what the future holds for him in terms of coaching. Personally, I wish him best of health so that he can return to the dugout at his alma mater and continue to do that which he's not only very good at but also very passionate about. He has been a great ambassador to his program and also to the sport. I would like to see more of our coaches, regardless of sport, follow his blueprint of success in terms of marketing his program and promoting their sport. A master fundraiser who is both engaging yet understated in his personal dealing with the common guy.
Hope you get well soon coach... our league needs more like you.
