You know what? I'd love to see someone get a hold of one of the many songs FAMn considers their staple (which is, basically, their whole repeated repetoire). See if anyone one complains about playing S.O.S or 20th Century or Good Times or sum'n.

Well, you just spouted off a list, so MAYBE it is...... I know yall used to be pissed about MBC playin yalls songs. (Wait, different situation, because it was ACTUAL FAMU arrangements, with Lindsay B. Sergeant's name on it.)

I have been watching the Jukebox and other HBCU band for a good while now, since about 75 I'd say, and have not missed a Southern football game since 78. What I have noticed over the years is that you kinda come to expect certain songs from certain bands. Now if that makes it a staple of that band, then so be it. For instance I remeber Southern Playing Say La La way back in the 80's at a Battle of the bands, but they stopped playing it for some reason and I love that song. But FAM has continued to play it and when we use to play them every year, every year they would play that song. Southern Use to play "the Show", way back when, but they stopped, but the Boom contiued to play it and made a lil routine with it in the stands, so you kinda come to expect that, if not look foward to it. Now for nearly all of the 90's and up until now The Jukebox would almost always come off the field playing "Do What You Wanna" and in the stands, and there is no way that fans of the 100 or the 100 members themselves could not know this, because up until the mid 2000's Southern and FAMU had played each other for 44 years strait.
I'm not saying that they are wrong for playing it, eventhough it was made by JukeBox members and the band uses it as one of its Sig songs. I, like JR, would never agree with my band adopting a song used as a Sig for one band as one of my own, but I kinda see it as...how does the old saying go..."imitation is the best form of flattery"....or something like that....

Look, to me every band has its identity...FAM has that size, clear sound, that unique style of marching, animation.....The Boom has those Drummajors, the J-Settes Leg Kick, that Get Ready Entrance....Bama State's HoneyBEES, Gram's DrumPuller (LOL)...and The Jukebox Sound, Drills, Crispness, Pretty Dancing Dolls, and that New Orleans/Louisiana Flavor...and "Do what you Wanna" falls right in with that....
Heck we have played "Get Ready" during a dance routine or two while playing Jackson, but only to mock them, and if that were the case with FAM playing "Do WHat You Wanna" when playing Southern, not so much as to mock them, but maybe just because there are a lot of Louisiana folks around and all, then I think that would be fine....But like I said, If you dig our music that much then that is Flattering to me and have a ball with it.

I ain't mad at that.. I just don't like the fact you have "musicians" in FAMU band that don't know where the song come from...

That's 1 or a few things...


1. A LIE

2. SAD (because as a musician, you should be aware of any piece of music you pick up to play and at least know some kind of history behind it)

This is the whole point. Ain't nobody mad. It's just a lil odd that you'd rep your state and school with a entirely different region of music when given the opportunity to rep.

Then, in FAMU's defense, since Florida really has no regional music, we claim the entire USA as the region that serves us.

I think the only reason YOU are in their defense is because you now reside in Florida.

I think you are completely ignoring what it is we are saying...Because none of us is telling FAMU to stop imitating SU...
 
Hey FAMU,

Here's a few signature songs you can use:

1. Basin Street Blues
2. South Rampart Street Parade
3. Bourbon Street Parade

By the way, Southern play them all the time.

Also, those songs were name after streets in New Orleans.

Here's a little geography history for everyone. Part of Louisiana was once part of Florida's Panhandle. The parishes are now called "The Florida Parishes". Do anybody know the names of those parishes?

Hint: If you continue the staight line from the Florida's Panhandle to the Mississippi River, those parishes that fall within that area are "The Florida Parishes", which also include the lower part of Mississippi and Alabama. New Orleans is not included, but Baton Rouge is.

Don't NOBODY be thinkin' about Southern around here...no one is saying that it's not a Lousiana song, but to say the 100 is thinking about Southern is crazy. Fans just like the song around here.

Again, it's a hype song for us. I love the way it's played in Louisiana...I love that authentic feel, but over here, we just like it and when the 100 plays it, your football team is in trouble.:D

Not only do I now reside in Florida, but I was born and raised here before leaving for JSU (4 years) and the first 4 years of my professional career before moving back. So, I have lived here 39 of my 47 years.

The reason that I am in defense of FAMU is that I am simply tired of the rhetoric that goes on and on in these threads over music to which none of the schools own or manage the copyrights. It just seems to be a colossal waste of space on the servers, DASD, and TIME.

You know, this only really applies to those kinda inconspicuous songs that people really don't play, but a specific school is KNOWN for. Just like JSU b!+cH#d when Southern played Golden Time of Day. I don't know if any of you actually checked out the link in my signature line, but that is one of the core pinciples of me and my business associates for our arrangements; we WILL NOT write any songs for mass distribution that a college/university/ or even HS is identified with (Unless they had a garbage-ass arrangement to begin with, or if they left out key parts of the song). We try to stick with the lost-gems, so-to-speak, so that way, we can't be accused of swagger jackin' and MOSTLY, to make and keep our own identity. You can only be compared to YOURSELF if you only attemp to be YOURSELF. The moment you look/sound/ or act like someone, you are forever opened up to the comparisons, and you cannot get upset for the unwanted attention.
