Tennessee State to host Southern in the 2011 John Merritt Classic

I'm talking about being nice to McNeese fans or NWst fans, that way they would want to travel to the Bluff. I dont care how you act towards us. We're not scared of you. LOL!!!!

Like Seeing Spots said in 04, they present themselves in a respectful manner. Don't come, talk schit and expect somebody to not act hostile. We're not scared of y'all either.

NW State fans showed up to the Bluff. I have no issue adding them back to the schedule. I liked playing them in the season opener.

It would be nice to play Nicholls State, McNeese, etc. But they don,t bring a crowd. We fill their stadium and they are scared to come on the Bluff.
Nope Tenn. state & FAMU are the way to go. It's about the money. If they bring a crowd then we can talk. them folks just don't travel to our place.
But they say we running from PV because we'd rather make more money playing somebody else.

So let me get this straight. (Rubbing chin) SU can find time for Tenn State on it's schedule, but dodged a certain McNeese State for five years? Is that what I'm hearing? (still rubbing chin)

Uh Jayrob, McNeese would have been on the schedule along with Tn State if not for the 9 game mandate. Didn't you read their article. You guys kill me. When other schools have dumped contracts for MORE MONEY. McNeese sure told us they couldn't play us but on Labor Day because they had money games with Missouri and LSU as their other OOC games this year. So I guess we should have told U of H and ULL to go to hell and not take the money. Didn't NW State blow JSU off for a money game or was it the other way around? Then you claim folks from from D2 schools like NCC when it was only a 1 year deal. LOL. Wasn't like we were going to go to Durham. You JSU folks are shole reaching. Again fugg McNeese. I hope LSU beats them so bad it kills them mofos. They whined and begged them damn near almost cried to get LSU to play them. Them folks aint never want to play SU anyway. Just wanted us to fill up their stadium. At least NW LA State went everywhere with us. To New Orleans, Shreveport, at their home at our house. That's how you be a good instate partner. I rather have them back on the schedule than them clowns in Lake Charles.

You all have to build rivalries with people. You have to remember that 1-AA football is very smalltime to the white folks so you need to build interest. We don't have 1-AA PWCs in MS but if we did, I would be in my ADs azz about playing them every year. Even though Delta State is D2 school, I am happy that we play them. For a 7 game format, playing FAMU and TNState is great for SU but if not, you should be playing NWState, Nicholls, and McNeese.

TP, it sounds simple. But even Nicholls is playing bigger schools for a payday. They are in bad shape down there with money as well. Everybody is scrambling. When I was at SU and we would go down to Nicholls, we would fill their stadium to the gills. We would always have to put them on as Homecoming to keep the interest. You know even our fans (black folks) are not as interested in playing the white folks either. Now for some reason the NW La State games with SU drew well. Our fans seemed to like it and their fans even traveled to Baton Rouge. I remember one year we had to put bleachers in both end zones in Mumford. Now of course both schools were normally ranked in the 1-AA polls then.

McNeese fans don't seem to be as into it as the NW State fans are when they are winning. Don't know what it is. Maybe they like just playing in Lake Charles. I rather play ULL every other year in the opener than play McNeese. Now one school I am surprised that has not tried to play us is SE La since they got football back. Hammond is right down the road and that game makes more sense for both schools.

JR, I know. That is why they need to end this 1-A vs 1-AA foolishness. It's killing both levels of football.

That's the one I'm waiting on. Forget the rest of them. SELa. would allow us to get into the River Parishes more and I truly believe that is one of the reasons why they haven't come to the table yet.

But I'm with you .... fugg McNeese.

Can't play Southeastern in Hammond. Logistical nightmare for that 8,000-some-odd seat stadium on the Southeastern campus. Also, everyone recruits the River Parishes, so it wouldn't really be that big in recruting.

I've said it before, I asked coach Lucas a couple years ago about it. He said flatly that they couldn't get Southern to come to Hammond. So if this happens, we'll play Southeastern in Mumford and probably flip and play them in City Park New Orleans (Tad Gormley).

Would that be the SE La Mud ducks or whatever that this guy played for?

Why don't ya'll just play them in Mumford two years in a row. Give them 10K tickets to sell and let them keep what they make or give the tickets back.

Mane, why do ya'll keep trying to NOT play AAMU?

Austin wants home-and-home series

Alabama A&M athletics director Betty Austin said she would love to continue playing Tennessee State, but she wants the series to be more of a home-and-home affair.

Since the two schools renewed their rivalry in 1998, seven of the 11 games have been played in Nashville, including four of the last five. Saturday's game was supposed to be in Huntsville, but Austin said Tennessee State athletics director Teresa Phillips asked if A&M would come back this season and she obliged.

"We like playing Tennessee State, but we want to play them home-and-home," Austin said. "Teresa and I have spoken about that. Hopefully, we can get it worked out. It's been a good relationship.

"(A&M) Coach (Anthony) Jones like playing Tennessee State and our players like playing in the Titans stadium and it's a good trip that our fans can make."

According to Wallace Dooley, assistant athletics director for media relations at Tennessee State, the Tigers' schedule may be full for next season.

In addition to seven Ohio Valley Conference games, Tennessee State will host Southern in the John Merritt Classic, play Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis and will play Florida A&M in the Atlanta Classic at the Georgia Dome. This season, the Tigers are playing North Carolina A&T in the Circle City Classic and could be invited back to play again next season.

Don't try to imply that TSU is just dropping us...The decision to play or not to play will be mutual...Both teams have other geese to cook next year.

Actually for me the better out of conference games for Southern are ULL, Tulane, and occasionally ULM. Paydays with Nothing to Loose....puts another game in the N.O., a game in Laf., and a game in North LA for our fans to see and young potential students and student/athletes to see. we should alternate with Tulane and ULL every year. Plus these are 1A schools that we actually have a chance at beating. They are both only and hour away so travel isn't a problem for the team or the fans. And once again there is nothing to loose from our vantage point. But much to gain!

Umm Dude, the only reason they went to Southern in the FIRST place was becasue they didn't wanna play ya'll. Its sad that they are willing to do a home-home-12 hours away but won't do one with a team two hours away. Maybe they can schedule ya'll for Homecoming.

We knew that last year TP. Tn State and SU signed an extended contract after we went up there in 08. They came to BR last year in 09 but the 9 game mandate and us playing in Orlando caused us not to be able to play them this year. So they scheduled us next year for the JM Classic. I think we have 3 more games left on the contract including next year. We would like to get back to playing TnState and FAMU every year like we did back in the day when I was in school. We were on our way a few years ago when we got both to sign deals and then the MEAC added Winston Salem State and messed over us playing FAMU. Only to have WSSU drop out of the MEAC as soon as they were trying to get in. LOL. We still have 3 years left on that contract with FAMU. Then this 9 game mandate makes it hard to schedule teams, especially when all of the FCS schools are looking to have that extra home game every year for revenue or get some big payday by playing a FBS school.

The SWAC 9 game mandate and the MEAC expansion bullshit is costing folks money. The big boys of BCF need to be playing every year. FAMU needs to play TnSU and SU annually and rotate with ASU, JSU and GSU.

Looking forward to hanging out with you, get here early enough, perhaps we can enjoy some TN BBQ @ the house.

TP, you need to stop. True, TSU would perfer to play SU than A&M. Don't be surprise if we [TSU] drops A&M and rotate between SU and *&^%.

On another note, some of you clown continue to make comments about TSU being in the OVC, first of all that’s old news ‘get over it”. There are some that wish TSU was in the SWAC, not going to happen “get over it” finally, how many of the SWAC Schools are willing to step up [you might have one or two] to the plate and play EKU, Jacksonville or EIU.

Call their AD

GSU – TSU, the game in Las Vegas was “how many years ago [eight years ago]” in the past, stop living in the past its 2010.

Welcome to our OOC scheduling hell.

Sorry to tell you this but FAMU don't call no shots with Grambling name in it. Until Bragg is repaired we aint coming. If FAMU want to play GSU it will be in Orlando at the Challange.
