SWAC Weekend Baseball - 4/22 – 4/24

Last night was a good game, but our coach made some questionable decisions time and time again. We had the first two runners on base in the seventh inning and SU's relief pitcher couldn't throw a strike to save his life. Instead of telling his players to take pitches, he gave them the green light on 2-0 pitches and SU got out of the inning.:smh:

In the bottom of the ninth trailing 4-3, there were runners on first and third, nobody out and two strikes on the batter. The coach called a suicide squeeze bunt and the guy popped up a few feet in front of home plate, SU's pitcher dove for the ball, caught it, then threw the runner out at third. That was the game right there.
We didn't try to steal any bases despite the fact that SU had fielding problems. He just kept trying to bunt throughout the game instead of being aggressive on the bases. Maybe they can turn it around today.

You have to realize we can't hit same situation happen down at Alcorn we ended the game with a pop ot to third Strike out ground out to first. Anytime time you coaching to try and score the run its the right call also its been noted on here SU has struggled making bunt plays kid just popped the ball up. People complained he didn't try a squeez. If the bunt would have gotten down and run scored he would have been the greatest coach ever. We needed to execute at that time cause that situation will come up again the tourney. Its a good sign we battled well from my understanding. Just came out on the bad end of the stick. Hopefully we come back today and play better.

Yep. SU can't field a bunt. It cost them against ULL. Let's say, they field the bunts properly. The worse the score could have been in the bottom of the 9th was 8-5. SU had runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs but they were over throwing people after picking up the ball. I hope they are working on that, because some teams will bunt until they learn to field it.

I hear ya JSU2, and you do have a point. You have to admit though, that is kind of an unusual call with two strikes and nobody out. Any kind of hit would've scored the run from third. At the least, there still would've been a runner on third with one out. Out of all the chances we had to be aggressive on the bases, he chose the most inopportune time to do so and it backfired on us. That's baseball I guess.:noidea:

That right there is a problem nearly all SWAC teams have!!!:angry::kaioken: If our teams would be more discipline at the plate, we could win more OOC games. With the count 0-2 and nobody out I may would have told the batter to swing away. I definitely would have sent the guy on 1st earlier in the count.

Yeah, you can be a hero or a goat in 1 play.
 
Yeah like ya say Jayrob its hindsight any other team but this I would have said let the kids swing way. Though it looked like we swung the bat ok yesterday. Im interested to see how we bounce back today. Young club on the road this will be one of the games that tell alot. good thing once we play gram we will be the only team in conference that has seen everyone on both sides. So no surprises come tourney time.

Thats the weird part about this team Pop wise this the most home runs we have had in years. But in the same light this the most strike outs we have had at this point in the year also so its like a lot of hits and misses nothing in between.
 



Matt Mitchell started and he was replaced by Joel Deleon...ballgame tsu wins game 11-3...Laufenberg strikes out 8 in the complete game.
