The Independence Bowl averages arond 42,000.... this is a matchup between SEC and Big Ten.... what the HELL make yall think the SWAC Championship game on Shreveport is going to pull out 50,000 plus? Are you telling me that Shreveport doesnt support the Independence Bowl?

IT wasnt that good.. IT was the same weekend as Gram Homecoming... So you know where all the locals went!

That was great scheduling wouldn't u say?

ALso just checked and the payouts for the indy bowl for schools is like 2.2million. (source: http://www.independencebowl.org/Year-by-Year%20Results.html)

Im happy the SCG isnt moving to shreveport, b/c i like giving my money to the PWC's.

It?s funny that you question my ethnicity, but anyway, that goes with the terrority when you make opinions.

...I apologize if I offended you; but I'm just sayin though.

To totally question the importance of HBCU bands, and how our fans feel about them, gives me reason to think that you dont know anything about the HBCU football culture. I could be wrong, but thats "suspect" to me.

THEY DO SUPPORT THE INDY BOWL......THERE IS A BIGGER MARKET IN SHREVEPORT WHEN COMES TO BLACK EVENTS......ITS NOT JUST PEOPLE IN SHREVEPORT THAT COMES....YOU PEOPLE FROM ALL THE SURROUNDING AREAS. ANYONE WITH IN A 2 HOUR RADIUS COMES TO SHREVEPORT FOR EVENTS.

The first college football I had ever went to was JSU-GSU in 2002 on a rainy day in Jackson and that was the most exciting game I had ever seen. JSU won 61-58. That?s why I feel they way I feel. I want fans to appreciate the game and not the band, the twirlers. Those are good, but the game should be the reason fans should support the school. It?s sad when 60,000 fill up a football stadium or battle of the band on a Sunday and only 25,000 show up for the football game. I just want fans to appreciate more than just the have time show.

Okkkkk

The Indy Bowl picks the teams that will play in it. They usually pick teams who are IN A CLOSE RADIUS OF SHREVEPORT if not THEY PICK NATIONALLY KNOWN BCS SCHOOL also. S'port has supported the Indy Bowl very well.

The Indy may as well be a Championship game for S'porters.

The SCG could get the same thing if not more with the HBCU bands from the two team involved. Correct marketing from Casinos i,e GIVEAWAYS and Prize Raffles would get folks ASSES IN SEATS IN INDY STADIUM!!!!!!

I guess FREE IS FREE as can be!!!

SWAC OFFICE STINKS!!!!:goof: :goof:

So out of the 43,000 people at the Indy Bowl.... how many would you estimate where locals?... Keep in mind Ok State and Bama was playing.

Snake, the party hasn't been goin on since '99, plain and simple. And yes, people have been stayin home and will continue to stay home as long as the game's in b'ham, so you're not telling them to do something they're not already doing.:emlaugh:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I am willing to bet that quite a few were locals.

Aint no dayum 15k fans came from dayum ALABAMA.

Bama has graduates all over. Including Shreveport and some locals who have no ties especially white folks will go to the game just for.

That's like saying SU travels with 30k ALL COMING FROM BR:goof: :goof: :goof:

There are Jags all over the place. It just seems like SU travels with that many people cause local Jags have rv's too and fly flags also.

I went to the PV game(Sorry SimplyRedd) and I did not see no 20K travelling. It's JAGS and Crimson Tide all over the place so it ONLY SEEMS LIKE BAMA is bringing all those fans DIRECTLY from ALABAMA.

U got Bama gras in Ruston, Lousiana and Southern Grads also. I work wit one.

IT JUST SEEMS LIKE THEY TRAVEL LIKE DAT!!!!

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
DO EVER GO TO DA PORT?
HAVE YOU EVER SPENT ANY REAL TIME IN THE DA PORT?
I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY LOCALS WHERE AT THE GAME
I KNOW EVERY YEAR THEY HAVE A HIGHSCHOOL BATTLE OF THE BANDS AND IT SELLS OUT........AND SINCE THEY ADDED MORE SEATS TO THE INDY BOWL IT STILL SELLS OUT

wonder what Shreveport offered? If it was a deadlock vote do the SWAC break it? If so...it never was going anywhere anyway

TBF, don't be shocked if we (SU) voted against Shreveport. Remember they still owe SU money from the last time we played there. I wonder how Chancellor Jackson voted myself. Heck I will just call and ask. Why they don't publish the votes is beyond me. Oh well.

I sure wish H-town could be the spot. I still say rotate it every 2 years between Houston, Shreveport and B-ham. Maybe that can generate some excitement. Or just have it for between 2 cities every other year in the West(Houston or Shreveport) and the East in Bham.

first you said 30,000 now it sells out? I would bet you any amount of money you have that there are more people at the Birmingham high school/college BOTB than the Shreveport one. Do you know that all of Birmingham City Schools are damn near 100% Black?

According to the news reports here, Alabama sold it's alotment of 18,000 tickets and received another 8,000 from Okla St???

Whomever would have won the bid would have had to guarantee the stadium/arena use and the office space - in addition to the financial requirements of the RFP.

Again, with the exception of the "Classics" and a couple of regular season in conference games - none of our games attract over 25k on a regular week in/week out basis - so once again - how do you expect a game right outside of Xmas - in the cold - to attract more than the regular games attract anyway. It is not outside of normal thinking that yes being this is a championship it should see a small to moderate increase in attendance than from what we as a conference average attendance during the season - but to think you are going to see more than 35k year in and year out is assinine - especially at this point of this game, this is still a "young" event - it does not have the history or legacy as the "classics" so it is not fair to expect it to draw the same as a classic.

It's the only game in town and the only game in the SWAC that weekend, that's why.
Marketing plus location has more to do with attendance than anything else.

It?s funny that you question my ethnicity, but anyway, that goes with the terrority when you make opinions. With that said, I want HBCUs to do well, but I don?t like the 20th-century thinking that goes on. Why do we have to do the same things that we?ve done since forever. If the SWAC commissioner is swinging deals with ESPN and other networks for exposure why should we still do the same thing and expect the same things? The Website need to be upgraded, players and coaches need to be at the forefont of this conference--not the bands. More schools are known for their band than the athletes on campus. There is no football school or basketball school, we are looked at as band schools. College sports are now businesses. We can?t get TV deals and sponsors if fans only come to game to see the band play. Even that is starting to wear off. I sat next to an ESPNU executive (she was black) and she said the crew has a tough time doing games because the band won?t stop playing.?They are trying to take over the game,? she said. ?Don?t they know a football game is going on?? And it was at JSU and the stadium was half empty. Why should people invest in us if we don?t want to change just a little bit?

So you're saying we're supposed to give up our heritage for 30 pieces of silver?
If you don't know by now, you'll never know and neither will the ESPNU reporter even if she is Black.
