SWAC office to stay in Birmingham..........

Why should attendance figures for the football game fall on the shoulder of the fans living in Birmingham? It's everyone's fault. There is no way a title game should have have only 30,000 people show up. Even though that is pretty good number. There should be at least 50k. People don't care about the game because there is really nothing to play for. OK, we won our conference title season over. There is no playoffs no chance to play for a national title. I can somewhat understand why attendance is so low.

You can say what you want.....If the game was in Shreveport attendance would be up in the 50,000......If Shreveport can get 30 + thousand for a battle of bands from the local community, they would fill Independence stadium for the SCG....If it was in da port, more people from surrounding SWAc schools would come.......GSU 1 hour away, UAPB 2 hours away, JSU 3 hours away, TSU 4 hours away, P.V. 4 1/2 hours away, Alcorn 3 1/2 hours away......The only people that further away are the bama schools. Somebody said they could not support a track and field championship...put that somewhere else.......But the 3 major sports; Football, Basketball, and Baseball......Shreveport would have that on lock......To me its more things to do in shreveport.....You the clubs that are all in walking distance to the boats. which is about 3 to 5 miles from the stadium........Da port would have been a good place to have the events hands down

WILL YOU STOP IT ????:lecture: :lecture: :lecture: :lecture:

U sound like STC NOW!!!!

Don't DROP THIS MUCH KNOWLEDGE on em like dat no mo'!!!!

STC done tried to tol' em this!!!!!

"THEY" SWAC OFFICE only see FREEEEEEEE!!!!!:xeye: :xeye: :xeye:

Sweepote got the casinos in a close radius to Indy. Clubs for the clubbers and Titty bars for da titty viewers:ebrow: :ebrow: :ebrow: also. Great food at the boat also.

STC believes that the game would do well in BEING THE ONLY SWAC GAME ON THAT WEEKEND and most likely the only COLLEGE GAME on that weekend.

Well I still don't like Shreveport and I am glad that it is not going to be there!!!!! I guess GUD will just have to make that plane ride to the Birmingham and after the game HEAD to Atlanta or back home.... Birmingham huh:confused:

The league is budgeted to receive nearly $600,000 from the city in fiscal year 2007 and doesn't have to pay rent for its football and basketball championship venues or its office space in the A.G. Gaston Building.

I don't know about you but that says profit all the way. Bottom line profits is the key.
BUSINESS??? :retard: :retard:

Da business is that the STadium is FREE!!! Dat is the business.

SWAC don't have to market no SCG to make up for renting and actually get ASSES in seats. That's why da SWAC office don't give a dayum about no marketing strategy or nothing. What for??

These fools see FREE and pass out and froth at the mouf. Don't wanna pay for shat. Don't wanna m USE THEY DAYUM BRAIN to make MORE MONEY for the SWAC.

They just SEE "FREE" at that 's it.

Casinos is and was ready to throw money at the scg and every and other championship event in Shreveport.

Again I say... What Business is that.

It's FREE so its good BUSINESS!!!!:retard: :retard: :uzi: :uzi:

I don't believe that it can happen the SWAC does not change the way it markets the football season and the SCG. There is too much band pub and halftime show pub that it takes away from the players and coaches. That's the main reason why fans don't come to games--they don't know the players. Honestly fans would rather see the bands than the game as sad at that is to say. I know hardcore SWAC fans like yourself know more than I do, but you have to draw a new era of SWAC fans. The office does a poor job of that. Why would fans go to game when they don't know any of the players or coaches? There are no intriguing matchups that would draw fringe fans. There is no build up throughout the season from the media and fans for just one game in the regular season. What makes you think fans will come to a game that is two weeks after the regular for teams they know nothing about in the first place

In case u didn't know, HBCU bands are interwoven into the fabric of sporting events. There aren't enough "hardcore" football fans to fill up one side of Legion field or memorial field. SWAC bands are an untapped resource that would generate loads of money. You are not in the SEC, Pac-10, ACC, or hell even CUSA. You are in a bootleg low-budget conference. You have to use ALL the assets that you have. As much as u hate it Ken, THE SWAC BANDS ARE A MAJOR ASSET. Halftime entertainment at the Championship Game was friggin Men at Large and Gary Jenkins from Silk......wtf???? You as a commissioner are trying to get everybody to come out, even just the casual fan that only likes to hear bands, because guess what, no matter what reason they came, their butt is there and they are generating revenue. If u scroll back to the other thread a looooooong....... time ago, I mapped out a plan of how they should do it in Jackson and rake in the dough. I don't feel like re-typing all that crap.

 Men At Large are still together??? They were out in like '92....

Seriously, the fact that the SCG venue is free obviously carries a lot of weight.

Other cities offered a similar package to b'ham's so that's not the real issue.
The number of extra fans generated in either Shreveport or Jackson would more than have made up for what b'ham was offering.
The sorry azz presidents who voted for b'ham were just too timid and scared to take a chance at success.

......my thoughts.

1. If you dont like where the game is played, dont come, simple as that; the party dont stop!

2. Those of you complaining about a 8 hour drive or whatever. Now is the time to schedule your flight to B-ham. Southwest Airlines have cheap rates to B-ham all the time coming from your side of the conference. Start planning.

3. If my school aint playing, ain coming point blank. A LOT of you have the same mentality, dont act. I might "consider" coming if JSU & SU play (Great Bands); but other than that, its to close to X-mas for me-it might be cold-and it aint worth my money or of interest to me that time of year to see any of the other schools. Just being straight-up.

4. 50,000 in Shreveport hunh? So if MVSU & GSU played, 50? A&M & PB, 50? Bama St & JSU, 50 hunh? Keep dreaming  The only way I see 50, and thats a "maybe".....BIG MAYBE!!! is if SU & JSU played, but the weather would have to be hella tight...like it was in B-ham last year, and SCG 99.

5. Some say aint nuthin to do in B-ham. Fun is what you make it. Key is, what do you do for fun? Some folks drink, shop, club, sight see, fine dine, gamble(dog track/horse),etc. Last time I checked B-ham got all that. Whats your problem?

Bottom line is; know matter where HQ is...the SCG is played, whatever; black folks gone complain regardless; nobody will ever be satisfied.

I hope we have seen the last thread on this topic. :emlaugh:

I know that bands are a major part of HBCU football, and that is great, but I think the SWAC sometimes does a disservice to the teams and by seemingly promoting the band in commercials other than the game or the players. You said HBCU bands are an untapped source. What about all those bands that have performed during the Super Bowl, Rose Bowl Parades and other national events? What I?m saying is that the SWAC should build up the players more and the coaches more so that fans in SWAC cities will know who these guys are. I don?t understand why the conference does not do this more. You can go out and ask 100 high school kids in your town who the QB of Pine-Bluff and almost all of them would not know. You could ask who the quarterback at Florida, Texas and Tennessee is and the majority of them would know. Why? because those confernces promote their athletes--the SWAC does not do a good job of that. And that?s why attendance figures will be low no matter where the game is played. Fans won?t come to a game that features teams and players they don?t know that much about. Other conferences have good attendance because throughout the season there is media coverage, fan support for all the games and the conference puts the schools above the fans.

Other than the D-1 power conferences, what OTHER conferences (plural) have good attendance?

Some people are not interested in attending a football game, even if it was free, but they would PAY twenty dollars to see the bands though.
How difficult is that to understand?

Yes, I have. I graduated from JSU, but received my masters from Michigan State in East Lansing.
Hope that answers your question.
