If that is the case why doesn?t the SWAC just do away with the entire football season and just have 11 weeks of battle of the bands leading to a championship type matchup like in Drumline were BET comes in and broadcasts it on tape delay?
To me, then that means fans are living up to the sterotype that they would rather go to see the halftime show than the game. So SWAC fans are like Cubs fans--they only come in spite of the game. So basically what you are saying is without the bands there would be no more football and as a result the SWAC will take such a financial hit that the conference will fold like the CBA.

Whoever said the stadium being FREE must carry alot fo weight must be a GENIUS cause evidently it does carry alot of weight.

No wonder no rREAL MARKETING takes place for the scg. They don't have to pay no rent so SWAC OFFICE is satidfied if the game attendance figures suck every year. They ain losing.

They steady losing fans by the dayum second though.

5. Some say aint nuthin to do in B-ham. Fun is what you make it. Key is, what do you do for fun? Some folks drink, shop, club, sight see, fine dine, gamble(dog track/horse),etc. Last time I checked B-ham got all that. Whats your problem?

Bottom line is; know matter where HQ is...the SCG is played, whatever; black folks gone complain regardless; nobody will ever be satisfied.

You can say what you want.....I'm from New Orleans but I lived in da port and I taught in the port and if 30+ come out annually for a highschool battle of the bands. they will come if two colleges face each other......and it does not be as cold in da port during that time, like it is in B'Ham and like I said before location lacation

you do know that the BOTB in Birmingham had 53,000 this past year and is one of the largest high school/college battle of the bands in the country... so your hypothesis has ZERO credibility.

Sweepote got the casinos in a close radius to Indy. Clubs for the clubbers and Titty bars for da titty viewers:ebrow: :ebrow: :ebrow: also. Great food at the boat also.

STC believes that the game would do well in BEING THE ONLY SWAC GAME ON THAT WEEKEND and most likely the only COLLEGE GAME on that weekend.

Whomever would have won the bid would have had to guarantee the stadium/arena use and the office space - in addition to the financial requirements of the RFP.

Again, with the exception of the "Classics" and a couple of regular season in conference games - none of our games attract over 25k on a regular week in/week out basis - so once again - how do you expect a game right outside of Xmas - in the cold - to attract more than the regular games attract anyway. It is not outside of normal thinking that yes being this is a championship it should see a small to moderate increase in attendance than from what we as a conference average attendance during the season - but to think you are going to see more than 35k year in and year out is assinine - especially at this point of this game, this is still a "young" event - it does not have the history or legacy as the "classics" so it is not fair to expect it to draw the same as a classic.

And that was the smallest attendance for this BOTB since it started. This is the same BOTB that is held in Montgomery, Mobile, Jackson and a couple of other places...In Bham they have averaged almost 60k for this BOTB.

Why keep it in a city with piss poor attendance.
Is it logical to have it in a city that farthest from most of the swac schools
If it was in Da port it would be better for 80% of the swac(GSU,JSU,TSU,MVSU,UAPB,ALCORN,S.U. all are within 4 1/2 hours)
A place where the city not the city government has not shown you any support
It should have been moved somewhere else

its not about how big the city is.....for instance, New Orleans is not bigger than most cities....but its the ideal place to have events because the atmosphere it brings to an event.....everything is within walking distance....its not far drive....maybe 5 to 10 minutes and 10 min. is probably because of traffic. shreveport setup is something like new orleans...

what does b'ham have.....nothing.......they offered them what an extra hundred thousands.....they would have made up that and more in other sales.......

He is sayign that folks will turn out for a CHAMPIONSHIP game also. ESEPCIALLY one with the HBCU bands who most if not all of those BATTLE OF THE BANDS High School Bands are trying to imitate.

I would love to see J-State and SU in Birmingham though!!!! Not because of attendance just to see how they would act competing for that title that game would be somethig else!!!!

It?s funny that you question my ethnicity, but anyway, that goes with the terrority when you make opinions. With that said, I want HBCUs to do well, but I don?t like the 20th-century thinking that goes on. Why do we have to do the same things that we?ve done since forever. If the SWAC commissioner is swinging deals with ESPN and other networks for exposure why should we still do the same thing and expect the same things? The Website need to be upgraded, players and coaches need to be at the forefont of this conference--not the bands. More schools are known for their band than the athletes on campus. There is no football school or basketball school, we are looked at as band schools. College sports are now businesses. We can?t get TV deals and sponsors if fans only come to game to see the band play. Even that is starting to wear off. I sat next to an ESPNU executive (she was black) and she said the crew has a tough time doing games because the band won?t stop playing.?They are trying to take over the game,? she said. ?Don?t they know a football game is going on?? And it was at JSU and the stadium was half empty. Why should people invest in us if we don?t want to change just a little bit?
