SWAC office to stay in Birmingham..........

But, if you want to go there, why is there always 70,000 plus at the MCC, but two months later, y'all can't make it back to BHam?

This is WHAT I'm sayin.

U can't stop folks from goin to the MCC but when the SCG comes around it's Crickets!!!

Da same folks who live in Bama all of a sudden say to hell with da CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!!!

SWAC OFFICE IS DUMB!!!!!

And just so you get a better understanding .... location is important. There ain't denying it.

This is my personal SU past trips since I was five:

Itta Bena -- 2 (MVSU's team had a lot to do with me not going.)
Montgomery/ Mobile -- 3 (Bama State's team .... see above ... these three are the last three)
-------------------------------------------------
Huntsville -- 0 (Distance my friend .... distance.)
Birmingham -- 3 (and soon to be four in September)
Note: These last two would be my longest trips from Baton Rouge.
---------------------------------------------------
Lorman -- 9 (Best atmosphere other than JSU on SU weekend and Mumford; and two and a half hrs away.)
Jackson -- 7 (Best game in SWAC, 3 hour trip
Little Rock/ Pine Bluff -- 0 --- see MVSU
Houston -- 6 (Family there, TxSU usually plays up, and it's Houston)

There is NO reason why the SWAC can't rotate this game from Houston, to Jackson and to BHam? Let ALL of your fans see what you have.

We have to be honest with ourselves ..... we are not the SEC or Big 12, who BOTH have moved their games around.

Most of us, with the choice of the BC or MCC or CCC/ OR the SCG are gonna choose our traditional games .... it's what we know and we're born with.

ummmm because AAMU cant play Bama State in the SWAC Championship game would be the logical answer.

Same way the Bayou CLassic can sell the Superdome out, but the attendence was nowhere close when SU and JSU played in the Superdome.... that was a dumb question.

Thats like asking how the JSU-SU game in Memorial can get 60,000 but the JSU- Pine Bluff game can get maybe 15000.... MAYBE because two different teams are playing.

I don't know why so many people are upset the office is staying in Birmingham? The only thing that does matter is the people making the decisions at the SWAC office. Who is a 100 percent sure if the SWAC office moved somewhere else that the same problems with attendance still not exist. Jackson State and Missisippi Valley was in the SWAC title game in basketball and there still was a poor showing. And JSU is allegiately one of the schools that bring in the most fans. The only way attendance figure for championship events will improve is for the SWAC fans to go to the game even if their team is not in the game(which is unlikely) or the SWAC office come up with ideas to make the SWAC events more fan-friendly. This would be more ideal for football since SWAC school do not participate in the playoffs.

Who da hell is driving 8hrs or 12 to see anotha team play in the championship game.

WHO????

Da SCG has to depend on its LOCAL swac fans and BAMA teams fans and hope the visiting team is JSU or GSU, schools that are atleast a lil bit closer to the champinships.

Hoping that some PV or TSU fans gonna spend they money on a plane trip to Bama and they team aint even in da championship is CRAZY!!!!

Da scg been depending on the LOCALS forever and they have LET da SCG and other CHAMPIONSHIPS down.

70K in da MCC and can't get 30k -50k everyyear for the SCG no matter who is playing in it wit Atlanta a stone throw away from Birmingham.

Shreveport would have gotten the LOCAL and LOCAL swac fan and non LOCAL swac fan cause it is central to PV,TSU,SU and the rest of schools east also.

Birmingham is the FURTHEST SWAC CITY away from all the schools. DAT IS DUMB WITHIN ITSELF.

I rather it had moved to Jackson atleast.

VOWELS IS A DUMBASS!!!!:saw: :saw:

Why should attendance figures for the football game fall on the shoulder of the fans living in Birmingham? It's everyone's fault. There is no way a title game should have have only 30,000 people show up. Even though that is pretty good number. There should be atleast 50k. People don't care about the game because there is really nothing to play for. OK, we won our conference title season over. There is no playoffs no chance to play for a national title. I can somewhat understand why attendance is so low.

Shreveport wouldnt done ****.... PLEASE tell me the attendence of the GSU and AAMU game in Shreveport a few years back???? also Grambling brings the LEAST amount of fans to the SWAC Championship. I have been to all of them... UAPB DOUBLED GSU fans in Bham.

We are talkin about a regular season game in Shreverport between GRAM and AMMU not the champinship game right. Not a weekend when other SWAC SCHOOLS ARE STILL PLAYING FOOTBALL GAMES? RIGHT??

UAPB may have doubled fans but the attendance still stunk!!!!!

Da SCG is the ONLY SWAC GAME on that WKND!!!!

Oh well.........I am sure VOWELS and STAFF have an outstanding MARKETING plan for this upcoming year.

IT'S CALLED "IT'S FREE DAMMIT"

Birmingham has not SUPPORTED da SCG at all!!!

So why did you bring up the Bayou Classic again? The SCG will never compare even though all of us might want it to.

And, the SU-JSU Superdome game did one thing, as did the SU-JSU game in Baton Rouge and in Jackson ...... they beat the SCG.

If you can not see the logic in moving this game around, then I can't help you.

..... And Kendrick, give that playoff crap a rest. The reason that game is not doing what some think it should has NOTHING to do with the fact that we DGAF about the playoffs. It is because of lack of promotion and events to bring families out instead of just football fans like the mCC or BC (NUMBER ONE), location when 3/4 of the conference's attendance is more than three hours away from you game, and yes, BHam's local apathy for the game. WE would be bringing them money, but what do they give us?

ASU , SU and TxSU and soon Grambling will have better basketball arenas that would look better than 3,000 in the Cave called the BJCC and football stadiums that would look great on TV with 27,000 crammed in them in Baton Rouge, Houston, Jackson, Alcorn and even Huntsville. and the conference could reap ALL of the benefits.

The SU-JSU game didnt even sell out in Baton Rouge the last time the game was played there, there was 21,000... so NEXT. This past SWAC Championsihp had 30,000 people.

So now you are changing platforms... now the stadium and arena are too big?

Heck, I'm just glad they finally made the decision official. I doubt if they did ANY real research at all in making their decision. They start off including Jackson and then say ''Well Jackson State is there. The games would be in their backyard'' as if they didn't know that from the start. :emlaugh: Now, I guess they can tackle how to get SWAC fans to care about a conference championship game that leads to NOTHING. And how to get fans to care about a conference basketball tournament that leads to a play-in game or 16 seed. Those might be just a bit more important.

It is easy to read why many of you all are not in intercollegiate sports or the sports management business sector.

I don't know if you are speaking of me or not, but I would really like to see and hear your reasonings for B-Ham being good for the SWAC or why another city could work?

I have always maintained that our games should be a a pre-determined campus IN the conference. We don't have killer costs for our teams, you put the pressure on that school or a collection of schools to help the SWAC office promote the games.

I fail to see how keeping the SWAC Office members who run the games comfortable in their beds at night helps that much. The Big 12 is in Irving, Texas, but their championships are all over the place. The SEC is in BHam, but their championships are in New Orleans, Atlanta, and Hoover. I would think it would easier for 20 or 30 people to move that bring thousands from four, five plus hours away?

You are picking ONE game out of a series man? Once again, you cannot compare SU-JSU, JSU-ALC, AAMU-ASU, or even PV-GSU to the SCG.

And, I'm not the first to mention arena or stadium size. You tell me what looks better ..... 24,000 in a 27,000 seat stadium or 31,000 in a 70,000 seat stadium.

Once again, be honest with yourself ..... the SWAC Office might think of itself like the SEC, but they are far from it at this point. We should have started small with the game in 30,000 seaters around the conference and once we see we are building something, then BHam would have been an okay choice.

Im picking the LAST game..... i know you cant compare the SU-JSU, JSU-ALC, AAMU-ASU, etc game to the SWAC Championship... so WHY are YOU trying to do it?

Jafus you keep saying that......I know you have studied this type stuff in grad school and the rest of us have not, but that does not mean some folks alternative ideas would not work. They would just need you type of folks to maybe take those prospectives and do the research to see if it could work. Business sense is business sense no matter what industry. Research and numbers are fine and are needed. But I have seen companies go belly up on ideas that were researched to the upmost. Some things are common sense business decisions once you take the emotions out of it. But hey I am not a Sports Management Professional and of course my business acumen is probably not relative to what would work in college athletics. There are alot of professional owners who have been in sports a long time and still don't what the hell they doing business wise. So who knows. LOL.

Now before I getting that SMH from you lol.......I am not suggesting the SWAC roll out of B-ham just on some whim. It is obvious the presidents feel this is the best business interest for all the schools. I just think Joe Blow SWAC fan right now is just not happy because we don't each have the fan base to pack these big stadiums without local turnouts and the game in B-ham has not been embraced by the locals and of course if our team is not in the SCG we don't attend and I know I am guilty of it myself. But like I posted before, as an Ohio State alum I do not see OSU fans going to support other Big 10 teams either. But it is not needed since all the Big 10 schools fan bases show up and pack the house. We don't have that luxury since our schools are not that big. So whether the decisions of our presidents pan out and the SWAC grows by leaps and bounds we will see. I do not have alot of confidence in the council of presidents since most of them are not business minded and who can bamboozled by fancy reports that suggest things are going great for the conference.

Okay now here comes the million dollar Jafus question. In your opinion and from what you have seen, do you think the SWAC presidents are steering our conference in the right direction with their decisions concerning athletics?

Kendrick, there you go again with half-truths. For one thing the Mississippi high school basketball tournament was going on and most Jackson schools were still in the playoffs. It would've been very difficult to see your time play during the day and then travel back to b'ham. It just wasn't possible.
Any way, the championship game attendance in b'ham was almost 5,000.
If the game was in Jackson, it would've been a sellout, especially since it was potentially Trey's last game, and a game between two state rivals.

Kendrick, you're telling us that a city of two million plus can't get 40,000 plus people to come to one game? Are you satisfied with that from b'ham?
If you are then your standards are waaaayyyyyy lower than mine.

ummmm because AAMU cant play Bama State in the SWAC Championship game would be the logical answer.

It's mighty funny that you didn't bring up the fact that JSU fans were boycotting james b*ll sorry azz that year, so that's not even a legitimate argument.

have you thought MAYBE.. just MAYBE.. .YOUR school was the one who wasnt bringing any fans? Out of all the SWAC Championship games... GSU brings the LEAST amount of people..... How many folks were at the game in Shreveport last time AAMU and GSU played there?
it wasn't gsu's falut that it rained the same day and aamu didnt bring no one, when uapb and gsu played in shrevport the games have great crowds, people get tired of going to boring arse bham and that's the reason why the crowds aren't big for the swac championship
