SWAC Office: Can you create a Commish Cup details page for fans?

The question is you want to invest a lot of money on a sport that isn’t going to generate anything just to say you won the Commish Cup?
When it comes to the women, we HAVE TO pay those scholarships. I think that's the biggest investment.

Yep! That's how Southern won all of those Cups in the 90s.

It's one of the weakest sports for us right now. JSU also took a dip in baseball and soccer this year. And of course, we were in rebuilding mode in women's basketball which cost us a few points. I look for a better showing in a lot of sports next year.

Yep, just look over the fact that S.U. Football was the team of the 90’s in football, sent Lindsay Hunter to the NIT (just a little salt) or those baseball championships and stick with that. It makes for better sleep. 😆 😆😆

Agree!

It is also one of the few sports that our teams can compete with the big boys if you sign only a couple of real good athletes.

Any SWAC team running a low 39 (4X100) or sub 10 (100m) will quickly bring prestige to their school and the conference for that matter.

Also, the amount of NIL money needed to sign those athletes is a lot less than football or basketball.
But just like other sports… you will lose those runners to the portal. We had a freshman female that won SWAC in hurdles and made national attention…. She left and went to Auburn after beating all of their runners in national competition.

You're supposed to try to be competitive in every sport.. or at least that's what I thought. And it's much more likely to work with Olympic sports than it is with football when you're underfunded. A&T has run a master class on it with their track program.

You were good at basketball one year, but still, at the end of the day, it was track that took you all over the top. Back then, only SU really invested in track and field. I'm not a young buck, I remember. The SWAC was not always equal across the board. Just like in the late 90s, JSU was being cheap and was not fully funding football scholarships or paying our coaches. AAMU joined the SWAC and caused the rest of us to make more investments because they got into a bidding war with BAMA State, then Pete got that 200K contract. JSU was only funding 50 scholarships when Judge Hughes was the HC. He only made $ 75 K. I wish we had invested in him because he did a good job working with a little.

But the 50 he got were legit players 😂

PV and JSU have points coming in Football and Volleyball. Bama St won't be able to hold up. The surprise is that Famu is in last place.
Maybe a steady ad position is important.

Maybe one of you can answer this for me. In attaining points in the SWAC Commissioners cup do you get points for winning the tournament and for regular season or just one or the other?

The SWAC started posting the breakdown last year. Below is the running total for 2025-2026.

That's a good question. Looking at the women basketball totals, AAMU-14, ALCN - 12, SU-10.5, ASU - 10.5. That's the order of the regular season. SU won the tournament but it looks like we didn't receive any more points for that.

Can Alabama State baseball finish 8 points ahead of Jackson State? It is very doubtful that that happens but it is possible.
