You folks keep saying that, yet JSU , SU and GSU has played schools like Lynchburg. Do they teach y'all to lie at your Universities?
Im speaking for SU, folks literally knock our door down trying to schedule us. Like when we have 12 game seasons, it's not beneficial for SU to get into a home and home with a opponent when we only need them scheduled for one season.

When I say folks going to have problems scheduling, I'm speaking on folks only being able to get games unless they do a 2 for 1 deal or letting folks give you $40,000-$70,000 for a game. That's straight prostatution.

Also, there's a question of how teams roll off. How will the SWAC equitably roll with three non-divisional conference games amongst five teams?

Let's suppose a six-year cycle of teams rolling off the conference schedule. We know teams will have four divisional games ... but what about the three from the other division? Assuming the whole "no permanent rivals" deal..

So in 2017...let's say Southern has Alabama State, Alabama A&M and Alcorn (Jackson State and Miss. Valley roll off)...
so in 2018 ... AAMU, Alcorn and JSU (Valley & Bama St.)
in 2019: ... Alcorn, JSU and Valley (Bama State and AAMU)
2020: JSU, Valley and Bama St. (AAMU & Alcorn off)
2021: Valley, Bama St. and AAMU (Alcorn & JSU off)
2022: back to Bama St. AAMU and Alcorn (back to JSU and Valley off)...

If this is the case...Southern would play...
Alabama State (4 seasons): 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022
Alabama A&M (4 seasons): 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022
Alcorn (4 seasons): 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022
Jackson State (3 seasons): 2018, 2019 and 2020
Valley (3 seasons): 2019, 2020 and 2021

Now with permanent rivals...(Southern with Jackson State for the sake of the discussion); the cycle would shorten to five seasons

in 2017: JSU, AAMU & Bama State (Alcorn and Valley off)
2018: JSU, Bama State & Alcorn (Valley and AAMU off)
2019: JSU, Alcorn & Valley (AAMU & Bama State off)
2020: JSU, Valley & AAMU (Bama State & Alcorn off)
2021: back to JSU, AAMU & Bama State (Alcorn and Valley off)

In this case ... Southern would play
JSU: Five years as permanent rival
AAMU (3 seasons): 2017, 2020 and 2021
Bama State (3 seasons): 2017, 2018 and 2021
Alcorn (2 seasons): 2018, 2019
Valley (2seasons): 2019, 2020

In order for a 7-game slate to work without all the bellyaching....the conference should've added two more schools and would've created two sets of three teams to roll on and off the schedule.

If not, the 8-game slate would've sufficed to equitably distribute the games amongst conference members.

8 game format is the only way to keep things at bay...

The conference will have to expand a bit...

Like I stated before most if not all conferences play 8 conference games..regardless...

I say this based on limited information, without being aware of ALL of the options, but why would TSU, PV, ASU and AAMU have to be "permanent rivals"? Is it really necessary? The SWAC rivalries that have been established over the years are in part due to the distances between. GSU, SU, JSU, Alcorn, MVSU and UAPB have benefited due to close distances, but I really see no benefit for TSU-PV and ASU-AAMU to do the same. It shouldn't be required of them...as there is a financial benefit for those school to not have to play EVERY year. The rivalries for those schools, because they are regional, are already built in due to the fact that they are in the same division.

In other words, I think we can have it both ways and it would be beneficial to all schools.

I am against the permanent rival thing for a 7 game slate (let me get that out of the way) for the reasons you and a few others have listed. It would be unfair to the TX and AL schools (travel being one of them).

There has to be rules in place. I would hope with almost all the schools having new administrations since the last time we had a 7 game slate that they learned from their predecessors but going by allowing ineligible teams to compete in conference tourneys gives me a pause...

Not true.. I used to clown ya'll because no MEAC school would play you all. You had to be in the SWAC 6 or 7 years before you played one.. Again.. you all do better now. Congrats.

but TP we been playin Meac schools even before we joined the SWAC..what are you talking about..? lol smh wtf

I aint gone lie... I want to get UNA back on the schedule for all the BEATINGS they use to give us during their NCAA D2 championship runs!

what you are stating is DUMB..... schedules are made years in advance.... you cant wait to see who those two teams are based on them meeting up. What is Grambling alrady has signed a contract to play someone else the next year.
You are a better man than me to take the time to try and explain this. Any REASONABLE person would know that with a schedule planned years in advanced you can make teams play the following year simply because they were in the championship game.

Man who plays a 7 game conference schedule anywayz Lol?

Again,

Go by a model that's in place

There a number of conferences where every team does not play everyone in the conference. The issue is simple...design a rotating schedule.

Also, I have a question....even though it is a 7 game mandate are teams still allowed to play 9 games if they choose to?

For the two Texas and Alabama schools, one key benefit would be to have a year in which a trip to either Texas or Alabama isn't even necessary. I'm not sure about all of the logistics necessary for scheduling, but I guessing, for example, Texas Southern or PV, would have to have a schedule that doesn't require a road trip to the state of Alabama. Not having to take that trip would save thousands to the budget.

THANK YOU!!!!

If a school schedules the right games money can be saved and made given the overhead for travel.

Checks and Balances Kenn. It is needed in the SWAC. For example in 2016, by December 2016, you will know who will be in the SCG. Say it's Grambling and Alcorn. Keep in mind Kenn we not talking about OOC we talking about IN-Conference. Checks and Balances. We have computers now in 2015. Technology makes it easy.

See, EVERYBODY in the Conference will have to hold their weight. You are not going to just sit back and "Leech" off the hard work of others. There will not be no Big 3 crap either.

Checks and Balances...Oh and BTW:

If some of you think you are going to be getting a "free check" from the Celebration Bowl, boy are you in for an awakening *evil grin*

Dude, this is the SWAC.. teams can do WHATEVER they choose... which is why this won't last long AGAIN! As I recall, GSU played all 9 SWAC teams the last time around.

No permanent rivalries. I have no interest in skipping over two states to play TXSU every year. If you want to schedule another conference member during the off years then it shouldn't count but you can do it. Play for nothing other than bragging rights like most OOC games.

Thats how it's gonna be...

I'd like to see a home and home with Jacksonville state every year. Rotating home and homes with TNSU and FAMU rotating D2 for TDay miles skegee or stillman. And a game to flex whatever's hot. A classic a money game a fcs or lower tier fbs like Troy or UAB or south Alabama.

can't go wrong with those games.

How in the hell does SU vs. JSU or Alcorn vs. Grambling as a NON-CONFERENCE GAME going to negatively impact the SWAC? SU and JSU are FCS Schools. I'm no dummy. Some folks are just mad because they have to get off their ass and actually WORK LMAO!!!!! If Valley wants a Big Game, call up TN State or a MEAC Opponent for a Series.

But I have to agree with TP....unless there are checks and balances in place, this will not work. Hopson may end up putting Concordia, Louisiana College, VUL, AND Faith on the same schedule for one season.

We need a monetary penalty/fine clause for scheduling below the FCS Level. This can be a start.

I don't see the issue with say JSU vs. SU being played as a Non-Conference Game. If that's what they want to do, let them do it. But like I said previously, if this game were to take place in Baton Rouge and The SWAC rolled them onto each other's schedule the next year as an actual Conference Game, that game would be in Jackson. That is Fair. The SWAC Office should not leave it to the Schools to determine this. Nip it in the Bud and Move On.

Which brings me to my next proposed rule:

If two SWAC Teams desire to play each other as a Non-Conference Game, they both must also schedule that same season 1) An opponent from the Mid-Eastern Athletic conference or if this option is not viable 2)an FCS-Level opponent.

If SU and JSU want to play each as a non-Conference Game, Fine. But they both would also be required to schedule a MEAC or FCS opponent as well.

Checks and Balances.
I normally try to be very mild with my comments, but this is just crazy.
1. The purpose of only having 7 games is that you will go play other teams. If your not going to do that stay at 9.
2. You suggest they should be able to play as a non conference game but then want to involve the conference office in the non conference game?
3. Everything is not about black college football. I'm inclined to go the other way on meac match ups. Don't play them as much in the regular season to avoid rematches.
bottom line we've got to get out our own gene pool. It doesn't improve our product.
