I think 5K is a GREAT venue! I think Fiyah made this recommendation 2-3 years ago! BRAVO SWAC! Toyota Center was STUPID!

I agree Toyota Center never made much sense outside of being a pro venue. I just have my reservations that 5K would hold certain games that could happen in a tournament, especially since it would likely be MUCH more affordable than Toyota Center (free parking, cheaper tickets, and much more reasonable concessions).

Hey.. NOTHING wrong with a hot ticket. If it sells out! great! Next year, get your ticket in advance. Black folks got to stop worrying about getting everybody in.

no 9 game mandate. stay with 7 games. its high time we stop hiding from the rest of fcs. if your team is sorry then get better so you can win ooc games. next you'll want to play 28 conference basketball games so you don't have to play anyone in that sport either.

If our ADs were going to use those 4 games to schedule 4 FCS teams, 7 games would be GREAT but they use them to schedule D2s and money games... Why not just play two more SWAC games?

Houston was going to be a miracle city. Folks were going to attend like crazy. Folks who never attended we're going to go to every game........ Did the SWAC get Trumped?

The games were definitely better attended. The first three it 40K. Last year was a down year but 3 out of 4 aint bad.

The games were better attended, that's true and thats fine, but expenses increased tremendously and there was never a revenue replacement for the $500k the city of Birmingham was providing the SWAC in addition to the conference having to pay for the usage of NRG, the police, etc. Plus you gotta pay for the expenses related to the after game concerts. Attendance increasing from 25k to 40k did not generate the revenue needed to cover what was lost in Birmingham.

I can agree with that.. but at the end of the day.. THE SCG sucked 80% of the time in Bham.

The SWAC knew Houston would get more people but after 3 years of 40K plus fans, I am not sure why sponsorship didn't pick up. I knew something was up tho last year when they didn't have an after game event..

Needs some young minds up there breh (no diss to you older wise dudes on here) but them folks are just dumb, can't make money to save and produce a good product to save their life.

What conference in Football that has 2 divisional sides, doesn't play for the ship at the end of the year??

I'll wait

I'll wait too. Lol.

It was free in Alabama. Plus Bham gave us 500K. So how does that not make money sense?

You don't get 500K for the MCC and that's two home-state team with capacity crowd. Not saying that you're lying but you definitely got some bad information.

Now there's rumors floating all over the internet that both you Alabama schools are fleeing to the meac.

If that's true then this explains dropping the scg

RMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham city funding for the Southwestern Athletic Conference could be slashed or eliminated altogether following the college sport's conference decision to move its football and basketball championships to Houston, Texas.

Birmingham last year spent $500,000 on SWAC and is set to increase the amount to $550,000 under Mayor William Bell's proposed 2014 budget.

a few questions...

is this related to the rumor that bama state and bama a&m are leaving?
if they are leaving are you disappointed that you still will have the 7 game conference schedule and can't run and hide from the rest of fcs?

Typing that Birmingham spent $500,000 on the swac and is set to increase the amount to $550,000 under mayor William Bell's proposed budget in 2014 and then posting a link to an article that mentions nothing about that as proof is kind of childish

Sir the proof is as part of the SWAC being in Birmingham, the city of Birmingham provided the SWAC a YEARLY allocation of $500k a year, in addition to no charge for facility usage of Legion Field, BJCC, and Fair Park, plus the city of Birmingham also covered ancillary charges such as public safety coverage. The city of Birmingham also provided the SWAC office space for free for headquarter usage. The article posted refers to the budget hearings that were going on at that time and the increase in the mayors proposed budget.

Remember how we were all so excited to dip from Birmingham to Houston, newer and better facilities etc. Remember how the free usage of Legion Field and all of the ancillary things that came with that free usage. Remember that $500,000 a year the City of Birmingham was providing the SWAC each year until they dipped but that $500,000 has not been replaced by the city of Houston or any other sponsors? Welp.....

Nothing would have kept me in Birmingham! That city just wasn't attractive enough as a destination city, and was too far removed from western division schools. Under no circumstances would I have voted to stay in Birmingham!

Lo

I don't need you to tell me what the city of Birmingham provided. It's not like it is a government secret.

There's nothing special about that all host cities do that. But spending $500,000 and making $500,000 aren't the same thing.
