APR has nothing to do with graduation rates. It's based off retention. Did you forget already? You are directing your anger in the wrong direction.

See where Pride and Arrogance has gotten us? If we don't work together in this conference, WE ALL are going to drown on the already sinking ship. Yes, I know money is a very important factor but sometimes, you have to put your selfishness aside and think what is best for the whole group.

I applaud Dr. Brown for abstaining from voting. We here at Alcorn started something this year with our baseball team. We proved that you can be SWAC Champion, play the MEAC Champion, and then give your best shot in the NCAA Tournament.
Alcorn isn't here to knock anyone down except on the sports competitive field of play. Dr. Brown sees that there is no pride in knocking another fellow conference member down.
If Alcorn must lead the conference in a new direction like South Carolina State did in the MEAC, then so be it.

Jackson State and Southern's football teams were hit with "Occasion Three" postseason bans and scholarship restrictions, while Texas Southern's football team will have to make do with twelve fewer scholarships due to their "Occasion Two" penalties.
"You're right that there are a number of historically black colleges and universities that have been penalized, especially through the postseason ban," Emmert mentioned in the press conference announcing the APR penalties. "We are concerned about that, have met with those institutions to help them develop ways for improvement and to help provide resources to help them be successful."
Among HBCU's, retention problems are made worse due to the financial picture of the schools themselves.
While Ohio State has an endowment of over $2 billion dollars, the combined endowment of the schools of SWAC and MEAC combined don't even come close to half that number.
The state flagship of Ohio spends $105 million on athletics in a single season. In contrast, Texas Southern - one of the schools cited for APR violations - spends $8.8 million on its entire athletics program, or 1/11 of what The Ohio State University spends.
Almost all HBCUs rely on heavy dollars of state and federal aid — and state and federal legislators, eager to find places to cut funding, have been slicing into a significant portion of this money in order to balance their books.
Smaller endowments and less state and federal aid means that HBCU's have less to spend on financial aid for students, never mind athletes — and with less financial aid available, HBCU's are less able to retain its students.
The NCAA's APR program has done a fine job to encourage the richer, BCS-level schools to focus millions of dollars on educating their athletes and making sure they graduate.
But in terms of resource-poor institutions with different missions than schools with gigantic athletic departments, the APR has not served it well.
Every college wants its students to earn a college degree.
But the NCAA's APR program has been punishing HBCU's — even when their graduation rates are equivalent, or even exceed, the rate of the rest of the student body.
It's fundamentally unfair.

So if you dont win a football championship can you lead ? Cause technically you saying a football championship means you leading the conference and TSU is the champion as of now does and all there issue are they leading us to these APR problems. Where would Alcorn lead us too the 1980's when Mcnair was there.

Bull Dawg, what ATLBrave was trying to say is this. Our president is just taking office. He was unaware of the situation regarding Grambling, SU, and JSU's APR ban. Therefore, he felt that, since he was unaware of the situation, he shouldn't vote on the matter because he didn't know anything about it until recently. Keep in mind, our president hasn't OFFICIALLY been on the job BUT 2 months. He felt that he shouldn't vote in that matter and that's understandable. He's not saying that he doesn't understand the NCAA's APR standards. He just felt like he shouldn't vote in the matter since he just officially became president of Alcorn.
