I think the right decision was made by the conference. The NCAA may not recognize the SCG as a post-season match-up it is for us. We do not participate in the play-offs so, I think if we allowed SU and JSU to participate then I feel the NCAA could/would come down on our schools harder in the future on any minor violations.
As someone stated before the APR is not going away so all of our schools have to deal with it. Now, that we know we have to put the right people in place to ensure that we meet requirements then I know that we will all rise to the challenge. If there were not any consequences then why would anyone put in the effort?
Some of you in Texas may recall years ago, the "no-pass-no play" rule was implemented in junior and senior high student athletes. Many black folks started screaming that it was racist. However, student athletes started to rise to the standards because they wanted to play. Parents got involved because they knew lil Johnny had to get the grades to play. I'm not saying that some failed through the cracks and circumvented the rule many became successfully-both academically and athletically.
Yes, SU and JSU has the largest fan bases in the SWAC and I think they set the standard; however, that just means that the other alumni from the other schools need to look toward them as a model. SU and JSU have earned that respect based on years of winning- I think about 20 football championships each. TSU will get there and I feel that there will be a new leader or at least another contender in highest average attendance. In 5 yrs TSU will average 15,000-16,000 fans per game.
