Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

Negative... even though it's a land grant it can be a satellite campus, Jackson State University at Alcorn.

Same thing happened to Arkansas AM&N which became... you guessed it: University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

You are so wrong again, read the statues. It was explained during the last discussion around combining of a campus.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

Why should JSU be light years ahead of SCState. SCState has had a program in place with the same coach for about 10 years and their fans were patient enough to let him go 6 years without a championship. We are not that patient in Jackson. Also, AAMU had a nice APR but they sucked. Jones even stated that he needs to look for transfers. Your dumb azz will see soon enough the point we are trying to make here.

But as far as JSU goes, our APR is already up. Get yours up!

Throw your anger towards Comegy, Piss Aint.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

Well why are your people whining and making excuses? A&M had a nice APR and by far the best scores in the SWAC. Take this as a lesson, move on and continue to get better. No need to dwell, the vote is done. So excuses and whining are irrelevant.

And they're not consistently winning either, that's the point. We don't and won't accept mediocrity at JSU.

And you keep getting the term whining confused "expressing an objection". I guess it was whining when SU folks wanted LeFleur gone too huh? Learn to distinguish between the two.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

SCState is a rare example and during the time of APR,they have had a stable program. JSU had to turn over our roster and get things in order. We are well on our way to being like SCState once things get settled.

The cockiness is amusing. If Comegy doesn't produce he will be out of Jackson and Jackson will have to start all over with a coach sodon't put your foot in your mouth as usual because you never know what you may get after Comegy. I have no faith in Stump and i can't see how anyone Jag can. Until we get a better coach and a competent AD we won't progress. I'm a realist, wishing is for the birds.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

I'm not shocked, i expected this. From what i'm getting the Presidents vote was unanimous unknowingly who all abstained with the exception of Alcorn's President.

Tigerpride,

Actually, if you get out and recruit, you will see that many HBCU kids come to us as a second or third choice. Typically, they come to us becasue we offer them more money. If you want to go to Ole Miss and have a 26 on the ACT but they only offer you a half scholarship but JSU offers you a full, where do you go? Most kids parents in this economy go where the money is. I think that once we get the kid, they like it but getting them is a task. A lot of black kids now want to go to USM for some reason like USM is some highly ranked University.

FBS schools are not allowed to give partial scholarships in football.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

From 2004-2005 to 2009-2010 the jsu mens basketball team was below 925 each year but only 1 year under 900 and the only time they received a notice.
However, during that same time the football team was always below 925 and the last 3 years below 900.

Maybe your football coach should get some tutoring from the basketball coach on how to make your boys go to class. It’s easier to ask a professor for help on grades if the kids 1st go to class. We can’t afford to have other ppl doing the work for them like other schools but we can make sure they go to class & turn in all work.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

How about we use that energy to tutor our players instead?

:clap:.....for ALL 10 schools.......this evaluation process is not going away and just because my school passed several phases this year is no guarantee of what could happen during future evaluation periods.:tup::tup::tup::tup:

not making any excuses for JSU (and I aint) but its easier to keep up with 15 b-ball athletes rather than 85 football players...

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

Great decision...

Well, I hope you know that you are next. GSU has a low APR for four years and got no penalty, yet JSU got reductions after two and a ban after three. JSU is being penalized for having a higher graduation rate than Grambling and you all think it's right. Oh well, wait til your turn comes.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

People.
This shat is done now. LIVE WITH IT.

All this boo-hooing and talking about how harsh the NCAA is on us po blacks ain't gonna change shat. Lets move on after 3 threads and 20 pages of this shat. JSU and SU ain't gonna play in the 2011 SCG no matter what. Ain't like whos playing in the SCG gonna make a difference in FCS football anyway.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

I thought the SWAC was doing away with the SCG anyway, so what sense would it make to ban JSU and SU?

But our SWAC HBCUs do need to do a much, much better job at retaining our athletes and making sure they graduate successfully. Jayrob is right.....it's more than just study hall and tutoring. The athletes should be introduced to internship programs or apprentice programs that will incorporate hands-on skill along with academic classroom learning. This will help the athletes retain more info required for their particular course of study. Mandatory sessions with academic advisors should also be a requirement (at least 2 per academic year).

Football 2008 - 2009 ARP 875, 2009 - 2010 APR 911, Increase of 36 points. Big improvement and things are in place to keep that up. The person for the cause for our APR drop in Football is at Alcorn now.

Basketball Team should begin to improve due to every senior graduating plus a transfer student graduating. FYI, when you wait and wish bad for others a boomerang effect usually happens.

A lot of good can come out of this. I expect scores to improve because people see it's very serious now.

Nice try but this is TP you talkin to. Your APR was below 900 in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. If your graduation rate of your student body was higher you would have been banned from the 2009 and 2010 SCGs. You didn't go but you still didn't suffer bans. Same for PV, they had 4 years below 900 and they should have been banned too but hey, life ain't always fair it? TxSo has been below 900 for SIX years but they get to go to Bham.

Most of this has NOTHING to do with studying and going to class. I think most of you miss that point.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

Typical TP. Worrying about everyone else trying to put out theories of why things are the way they are. I know one thing our APR is rising and in big jumps and the Academic Progress Rate charts shows it, no need for theory and speculation. That's all that matters in the long-run. Counting down for the season.:read:

If it happens to us, it will be our fault. We know the rules.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

1) He don't wanna affend the two schools that bring folks to his campus and strain the relationship with JSU further after the CCC situation.
2) He's afraid next time MS Gov. suggests merging the three campuses in order to save money JSU will support it
3) He looked at his school numbers and is afraid he'll be on the chopping block next

:quiet:

Nah, the reason he abstain certainly wasn't any reason you mentioned....As was stated, he just came into office unaware of any of this APR concerning other schools..Why would he vote on issues new to him..Ours numbers are just fine...concern yourself with yours!

He's telling the truth and providing numbers to back it up. You guys are just talking off of sheer emotion and little to no information. I wonder how much information our Presidents were made aware of as it relates to the APR system and how it works. I doubt if one of them actually understands it.

Re: It's official. SU and JSU have been banned from the SCG.

If it wasn't for your low graduation rate, it WOULD have happened to you. You can thank your low graduating student population for the pass.

If your Prez. doesn't understand APR by now, he's not on the job. This APR crap is just as important if not more so than the Capital City Classic. Repeated violations can lead to removal from D-I, which will cost the school much more than a home game receipts.
