The gooddoctors 2002 Predictions:
Look for JSU to roll through the East and the West to be settled in NEW ORLEANS
SWAC East
JSU - Superman Kent and a halfway decent defense is enough for the Tigers to win the East. However they will begin the season 1-4. Playing Grambling and Southern on the road ain't gonna be easy either.
Alcorn - Donald Carrie and enough returning starters will have them collecting scalps on the reservation.
Alabama State - It hard to figure what Coach Cole has up his sleeve this year. One thing he doesn't have is a Darnell Kennedy.
Maybe that is why he has put together a cream puff schedule. I don't see them Hornets beating the Braves on the reservation.
Alabama A&M - New Coach and a lack of size spells a long season for the Bulldogs. 3 wins at the most as the Bulldogs begin a new era under coach Jones.
MVSU - Coach Totten is following Coach Coles frormula for success, California JC transfers. He has assembled a talented group of assistant coaches. They will be improved this year.
SWAC West
Grambling State - Coach Williams stated they are still the heavy weight champion until someone knocks them out. The two folks who have the best chance at dethroning the G-men are JSU and SU. The big question for the G-Men is at quarterback. Can Eugene effectively lead the Tigers offense? We will know after the first two games.
Southern - The Jaguars are talented and have depth on both sides of the ball. Question is at quarterback. Can Richard lead the offense? If not Richard then who? Backups Fisher, is a runner and Ricks, is a passer. Look for coach Richardson to make a change early if Richard is not up to the task. First two games are going to be tough for the Jags, but Richardson has shown the ability to be able to regroup and finish on a roll.
TSU - Possibility that 8 projected starters may not play. If true Tigers are in for a long season. If they do play it's still a 3rd place finish in the West.
APB - Golden Lions are going down hill fast. Future doesn't look bright. The boys from Pine Bluff don't have a passing game and can't stop the other teams passing game. Look for the golden Lions to start the season 0-1 and go down hill from there.
PVU - The Panthers are a team that believes in themselves. Could be the surprise of the SWAC and finish above TSU and APB. It's just hard to compete each week when you only have 15 scholarships to work with. Coach Dorsey is a good coach but the numbers games is against the Panthers.
Next week: Week one predictions.
