(CNN) -- Gays and lesbians celebrated historic gains Wednesday in their fight against laws limiting same-sex marriages, saying Supreme Court rulings overturning the federal Defense of Marriage Act and rejecting the appeal of a California marriage ban represent a "joyous milestone."

But they acknowledged much work remains after the Supreme Court declined to make a sweeping statement on same-sex marriage rights by not ruling on the issues in California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriages.

"While we celebrate the victory for Californians today, tomorrow we turn our attention to the millions of LGBT people who don't feel the reach of these decisions," he said.

The court rulings, delivered in separate cases, mean that same-sex couples who marry in states where it's legal for them to do so will be treated the same as heterosexual married couples by the federal government when it comes to things like retirement benefits and taxes.

And while the ruling clears the way for same-sex marriages to resume in California, it will have no impact on bans in 35 other states where such marriages are illegal.

We can't prove a negative. however, you are positive that your "God" exists. If he does, then you have evidence.

Please provide this evidence.
 
You are the one who has proof he does not exist. You can not prove that what is in the bible is not true. Prove it is a lie and I will believe you.

A negative proof is a logical fallacy which takes the structure of:

1. You used wikipedia as a source, no person with any credibility would do that

2. You can prove something is false, see: the world being flat, the world revolving around the sun, and others.

That is science my friend. You take a position and research it to prove it's accuracy or lack there of.
 
Well when these atheists with their small time, small town complexes that are mad at big momma because she made them go to church on Sunday and go to school looking like country church kids move on, so will we. Look they can't be mad at the world because someone let them down or what they wished for didn't happen. Get over it and move on. Geessh.

I do not understand why some people are bent on preventing the happiness of others based on their personal beliefs. I want all people to be happy, just as long it does not harm society, and being gay does not harm society. Now, if there was a person harming children or animals in any way, then that is different. As far as two consenting adults, I could care less, and apparently time could care less as well.

I wonder what are some people protesting this say about prison conditions or victims of molestation. People are far too single minded.
