SU opponent's locker room burglarized

You are more than welcome to walk with us..I've lived in scotland for 45 of my 49 years on this earth and never had a problem..NEVER..And i'm 5'7,165pds..So if anyone is :scared: you my walk with us...YOUR FOOTBALL TEAM ALSO..

You really do have something against Southern, don't ya? The concern for the safety at SU is no different than the concern one should have at any other university.

I, probably along with other native Baton Rougeans, take issue with you saying that SU is in the heart of the hood. Yeah, some of the areas close to SU are less than desirable, but you also have a neighborhood within walking distance of the campus that is well-kept and with many professionals living there (and they wouldn't think of living anywhere else).

Personally, I am deeply saddended that both of the crimes have taken place and put SU in the spotlight for crime. I hope the university administrators, police, and local officials develop a plan of action to assure the public, alumni, fans, and students that they are taking steps to address these issues.
 
As a student, this is truly heartbreaking in the eyes of the effort that has been put forth on our(students) behalf in the last week. It seems as if because we have began to take action, that things have only gotten worse since the shooting incident. However, we are determined to do our parts in making Southern University a better place. We just hope that the new campus police chief and our school officials are just as determined as we are.

Of course, I beg to differ. Therefore, let's take a look at some numbers. My source, The US Dept of Education Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) Campus Security Stats Website. Please feel free to peruse over there if you like. To make it easy for you and others I've posted some of the numbers I found there below.

According to OPE they have listed the population of the university and vaious stats. The following numbers on apply to Burglary from 2002, 2003, and 2004. OPE defines burglary as the following:
The unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or a theft. Attempted forcible entry is included.

I posit that burglary is heinous at all of these schools. It is no more pronounced at Southern that it is at the other schools listed depending on the year. Of course, when one begins to think about crime stats at universities one must take be careful (population of the school may play apart in the numbers).

It isn't unusual for what has happened at SU. When ever you have more than 200,000 people move into your city after Katrina, then you can expect a "spike" in crime. A lot of those people from New Orleans still until this very day reside in Baton Rouge. I'm not saying that everyone from N.O. came to BR committing crimes, but just like the city of Houston crimes did increase also in BR. And a lot of these crimes are very unusual crimes that were committed by misplaced people who had little access to money or jobs. I am also aware that crimes were and are being committed in Baton Rouge by citizens of that city long before N.O. and Mississippi residents arrived there.

You are sooo off base. This has happened before so you cannot blame this on the hurricane. You love talking about hurricanes don't you?

Man get this crap out of here. The people responsible for robbing the locker room have nothing to do with Katrina or New Orleans.

You didn't read my last sentence. Plus, read the statistics of your own city and see who and where some of those people came from. I don't have to lie. It's in your city's crime reports. Base your conclusions on those peole that put your crime statistics out there for the world to see.

SU students, peers call to "stop violence"

Wednesday morning's slight breeze and 80-degree temperature provided the perfect backdrop for Southern University students, administration and faculty to march throughout the heart of the campus chanting messages against violence and a better awareness for the university.

"I feel this march will show faculty and staff (we) students are not just focusing on attending parties and football games," said Chassity Cristtenden, a sophomore therapeutic recreation major from Baker. "We are here to make change while learning."

What do you mean its not safe at Mumford? You are responsible for the your safety and the safety of your family. Man up ***** and do what you have to do. Don't come on here crying about it not being safe. I have gone to Jackson, MS and some thugs tried to rob me at the Texaco across from Memorial Stadium. I said tried. But, some of my homegirls were robbed down the street.

**** happens. It's shameful what happened to those kids, but our losing had nothing to do with that. We lose alot at home, and no locker room has been robbed that I can remember. So, don't bring that crap here. I know they will not catch anybody, but I am hopeful.

If the administration would build the damn field house at the stadium like they promised, this situation could have possibly been avoided. But, it never going to happen so if N C Central doesn't want to play us again, I understand. And it was such a good game and they played well, I would love to keep them on the schedule.

Of course, SU administrators give a damn. If it is found that any don't, we'll miss them in the near future. The article wasn't written by SU. So, the contents are not controlled by SU, other than the fact that the correct measures where not taken to prevent this from happening. But, that is the case with all crimes.

This isn't SMACK material. Whoever is associated with this should receive the maxium sentences allowed for prosecutions.
