ASU mulls security options

Alabama State coach Charlie Coe said his team has not traveled with state troopers last season or so far this season, but he said he met with school officials Monday to discuss security options as the team readies to travel to Southern.

SU?s first two hame games have been marred by incidents.

Just south of the stadium, a 59-year-old was shot and killed at an off-campus business during the Mississippi Valley State home opener Sept. 9. That was the second shooting in that same area in the last two seasons and led to new security measures.

And Saturday, NCCU?s dressing area in Seymour Gym was burglarized while the team played despite the new security measures.
?There are some concerns,? Coe said. ?We need to sit down and look at it.?
SWAC Commissioner Robert Vowels Jr. said the conference leaves security issues up to individual schools, but he has taken notice.
?We are extremely saddened,? Vowels said of the rash of incidents.

A DAMN SHAME!!! Not only do you have to game plan, but you have to burglar plan. This is really sad and serious. This will have an effect on teams coming to Mumford that have a choice to either accept or decline an invitation to play Steal U. I suggest that ASU wait to check out of their hotel after the game and bring only things that are neccessary to play football. Don't bring any clothes or valuables. Only bring team sweats to change into after the game. They should park the buses close to their changing area, get on the bus quickly, put their heads down between their legs, and don't raise up until they are well on the Interstate. This is the way we would handle games when we would have to play Shreveport HS teams in the early '90's. It is sad that these types of measures have to be taken, but thats how it is when people have no value or regard for anything..... Let's keep the su situation and those terrorized by it in our prayers...... Also let's lift up ASU's team and supporters as they risk traveling to su's campus. May they arrive and depart without any hurt, harm, or danger done to them.:(

Frat, what did you go to SU for in 99? We played JSU in Memorial in 99. Remember I came over the spot where the ole HH bruhs sit and hollered at yall. I was there in 96 and that was the police doing the shooting like some dumb arses in the end zone by the scoreboard. That's when folks hit the ground on the field.

BTW, yall were not killing us in 96. Jacoby was making yall look bad all game with his dink and dunk passing.
 
Southern has responsibility for security, but this could have been anyone making this theft. I was told that the visitors dress in Seymour which is near the stadium. The door to the locker is locked and the entire gymnasium is probably locked and left unguarded. Remember that SU uses mostly off duty or extraduty City and Parish deputies. That gets very expensive...trust me, I have a frat who is a deputy. Plus the availability of officers had to be taxed by LSU having a game in town.

Not trying to exonerate SU from needing to have more security...In fact, it was probably the decision of one individual to gamble that the locker would not need guarding.

On Tuesday, NCCU athletics director Bill Hayes said that 13 players were affected, losing cash and electronics equipment worth "a few thousand dollars." He added that no championship rings from NCCU's 2005 CIAA title had been stolen.

Hayes said he had spoken with Southern athletics director Greg LaFleur, who assured him the affected players would be receiving checks directly from Southern to cover their losses.

Ok now. We are paying the folks for their loss.........now what else is supposed to happen? Besides an apology as well. Who knows who was involved. You just never know. This wasn't some random act. Who is to say the folks who were supposed to be watching the place was not in on it. Just because you are a law official doesn't mean you are honest. How many JPD have been caught up at the crib for stuff smaller than this. I blame us for not having a field house for both teams to change.

I am telling what is going to happen...........when SU is completely locked down and nothing can go on at all during the games. Folks going be on here complaining how boring it is at SU for games. No tailgating, no drinking, just go on the damn game and shut your mouth. At least we will be safe.

The thing that kills me is that I have been to all of the campus stadiums in the SWAC at least once for a game and there is no more security at those campuses than I have seen at SU. The difference is.......that it isn't as many people there for the game or tailgating. So the odds probably decrease somewhat. So what else SU to do besides lock everybody out except students and then search every person's car for weapons at a checkpoint entering the campus. While we are at it. We can get some bomb sniffing dogs too.

I know I know them fools in Jackson to scared to do something out in Memorial Parking lot. The simple matter of it is...........they haven't bothered yet. JPD aint that great or security so good there that all the criminals and knuckleheads have said to themselves.........Self it aint worth going over there cause I am going to get caught.........Nope they rather wait till the stadium is full and break into some houses while the game is going on. Ask me how I know that one....... shole aint from the barbershop. LOL.

BTW, ole Melton would be kicking in all of SU dorm doors and every house in Scotlandville. The difference is that somebody in BR would have probably killed him by now.......I guess they aint sced like the folks in my hometown are supposingly.(tongue -n-cheek)

Try changing the mentality of the gameday crowd.
Start putting people out when they start to get out of line.
Just don't sit there and watch them throw bones and whatever at people.
If this is continued to be looked at as the "imtimidation" factor, it will continue and get worse.

As for the excuse of waiting for Memorial stadium to get full then go break into someone's house as the reason things are calm at Memorial, I hope that's not a new excuse for the problem at SU.


But anyway.....................I don't have to worry bout it.
So leave the bomb sniffing dog, police, security, and patdowns alone as far as I care.:goof:
We all know SU is so wild because ya'll have to deal with 30,000 people crammed in a 27,000 seat stadium, with 100,000 people in Mumford parking lot still tailgating.

It can continue as usual.:D
I ain't planning no trip's to Mumford anyway.:D

How am I supporting wrong. I am stating facts as I know them. Nothing in my post condones what was done. It was wrong, they are going to pay the kids back. They apologized. All I see on this thread is that it is not enough. What else GR?

A lot of those people from New Orleans still until this very day reside in Baton Rouge. Dude we're talking about the crime that happened on the campus of SU! From reading your post one would think you're saying if Katrina didn't happen, the crime that took place at SU this past weekend would have been avoided. I guess when Bush gets finish batch slapping the U.S and other nations, you're gonna blame the people from New Orleans too! :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:
