We were dealt a limited hand'

For the first time in more than a decade, the Southern football team will play fewer than 11 regular-season games.

The Jaguars’ 2018 schedule features 10 contests. It is the first time since 2005 Southern will not play a full 11-game schedule, the blame for which Southern athletic director Roman Banks laid with the Southwestern Athletic Conference office.

“We were dealt a limited hand,” Banks said.

The dreaded "Non-Conference SWAC game" is possible because Valley has an open date on November 10

Seems like Banks is not open to it but that door is cracked for him to walk through

When other schools’ schedule is short on games it’s called small time & the AD is lazy.
Now it’s the swac office’s fault? But the swac office has been the swac office since.... hell as long as I can remember. All 10 institutions are given the same so called “limitedhand” each year. Banks is just giving excuses to save face.
He could’ve just kept his mouth shut & let the finger pointing, mumbles & laughing blow over.

If the 7-game format was available only since December that is pretty amateurish. Incompetence should not be acceptable at any level. Once the COP agreed there should be a rolling format. SWAC conference scheduling should be the least of the concern as there are so many dynamics involved with nonconference scheduling especially when we play up.

SU might benefit from having an AD that is not currently coaching a sport. was he even able to attend the conference meeting in december?

Being that the SWAC schedule was provided in December and SU’s open date is in November, how can you possible blame Banks.

Trying to save face, he really knows what the deal is and just not saying so.

Why do they have to have 2 byes in November?

November 3rd is the date he's trying to get a game for. We have traditionally had the week prior to the Classic off just like Grambling. I also think it's obvious why he's trying to avoid the team playing 9 straight games without a bye.

We play UAPB on November 10th. November 3rd is the open date.

OK. Then it seems like our only open date that I know we need a game for is September 15th. The North Dakota game we've known about for months (will be a Thursday night game on August 30) so it's basically just that Sept. 15 that needs to be filled
