Stephen Curry’s prominence resurfaces issues of colorism among blacks

If that's isn't the biggest batch of BS, then I don't know what it. The league hasn't done Jack for Curry, other than just get on board for the ride. It's kinda embarrassing that we are actually having this discussion.

We live in a society where people marvel winners. Period. But when those winners have some flash about them, then it goes to a whole new level. Curry's ascension has NOTHING to do with his skin color. It is all about his game...period. It's not just that he can shoot 3-pointers with consistency, but its his ability to shoot 3s with consistency from damn near half-court whenever he wants.

Steph Curry could be butt-ugly and would still get praise for his game if that were the case. There are only a few players who can be credited for literally changing the game of basketball as we know it. Steph Curry is one of those people.

LeBron has tattoos every where, is 100 shades darker than Curry, and from what I can tell, isn't necessarily noted for being the Denzel Washington of basketball, but I still see those KIA commercials everyday.

I never mentioned his skin color once.

I just explained his appeal. He's, in the eyes of many, is the ideal archetype of how they want their professional athletes packaged.

Curry won unanimous MVP in part because everyone likes him as a guy and everything he represents just as much as a basketball player.

Curry is the "Golden Child" of the NBA. Light, bright and almost white!

That's deep. Dark-skinned blacks telling you, "you think you're white", I heard it all growing up.
Aren't you the same person who .ade post saying dark skin folks are evil and dark is ugly? Man where is Criticual at? Lol

Here is another thought. In the NFL, bloodlines/pedigrees are trumped. Like Clay Matthews, the Mannings and other second- and third-generation NFL players.

Yes Steph Curry is taller than the majority of Americans. Hell, he and I are the same height. However, he is not taller than the majority of his colleagues in the NBA.

It's like the Steph Curry folks intentionally discard his pedigree

Him and Klay Thompson.

And I'm taller than him by an inch or two (I think Westbrook is 6'3 but he is a lot more explosive) so but if I were in the league I would be at best a slightly undersized guard at 6'4.

I think Kendrick actually put it best. Steph is the perfect "face of the league" that they have been looking for a while. Clean cut, well spoken family man with no tats that doesn't act like he is part of YMCMB.

In other words, what they coulda had with Grant Hill.

Stef has crossover appeal and that's more marketable than anything....Lebron doesn't have the drop everything appeal Jordan has but he's made a mark

In Houston, Andre Johnson carried the franchise on his back but never got the love jj watt gets...watt fits what Houston wanted since the 70s...a white star all the republican business interests can rally behind

You don't have to mention skin color, but even if you did, you'd still be correct. The NBA has always been on the lookout for an "approachable negro". Let's be honest- we don't know when's the next time we'll see a White player who was as good or better than Larry Bird. You can make an argument for Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki, but they aren't legendary (or American). So until that guy comes along, the NBA needs a guy like MJ or Magic or Grant Hill or Steph Curry. LeBron and Shaq are a little "rough around the edges" for White America's liking, but they still have a certain charm about them.

As for light-skinned guys having it better- I hear those jokes, but in this day and age I haven't seen a light-skinned brother get better treatment than a dark-skinned one....can't say the same for women, but we are talking about men in the NBA right now. Furthermore, where I'm from, there were a lot of light-skinned dudes that would shoot you and then go home and eat a sandwich like nothing happened. Never really thought of them as being soft. I came up with some fair-skinned cats who were thugged out.

Light skinned thugs be the worse. They have to overcompensate in their thugging. They be super thugs because they don't think people gone take their thugging serious. lol
