Congrats to the HBCU's listed. Hopefully you all will get playoff bids and represent us well.

GSU will probably not climb any higher in the poll since that would cause a dilemna with the selection folk. Anyway, congrats!

If you mean ever.......

NUMBER #1

I think it was the 1984 season,Alcorn finished the regular season ranked #1 before LA Tech beat them in the playoffs.

I don't think that is true. If Alcorn was the #1 team in the nation then that game would have been played at Alcorn. Instead it was played in Ruston.

G,

Alcorn was ranked #1 in the country and actually got a first round bye. The Tech game was not played in Ruston. It was played in Jackson at Memorial Stadium. Tech played Valley the week before in Ruston.

Tn State finished the 1999 season ranked number 1 and thus being the number 1 seed in the playoffs before being upset by #16 NC A&T. If not for the loss, we could have played all our playoff games in Nashville and the championship in Chattanooga.

???? what does this have to do withwhat we are talking about?

Anyway...I didn't know the corn was ranked #1 back in the 80's. Niceinfo..and funny, but I had already forgot about TSU just 2 years ago......

I don't think Alcorn finished the regular season at #1 in 1984 because I remember TSU being ranked number 1 that year. With two games remaining in the season (Louisville and NCA&T) TSU was ranked #2. I was at the game in Louisville when it was announced that the then number one team had lost, which if TSU beat Louisville would make them the number one team. TSU did beat Louisville and TSU fans went crazy in Louisville, KY. We partied in the stands to the Aristocrats playing practically every song on the Prince Purple Rain album.

TSU finished the regular season 11-0 that year. Unfortunately, TSU was disqualified from the playoffs because of an investigation that led NCAA officials to think TSU had played an ineligible player in the first two games of the season. The NCAA banned TSU from the playoffs based on the information that was presented at the time. Ironically, that information surfaced right before the playoff brackets were to be announced. Ending TSU's what many believed was TSU's first real drive to a National Championship. For the record TSU was cleared of the charges well after football season had ended. Of course there was nothing anyone could do.:redhot:

This is the way I remember 1984. I could be wrong with some of the facts. But, truly don't remember Alcorn ever being ranked number 1. Maybe the were ranked number on in the bracket they were assigned to in the playoffs.

Good Info Jag Voice.

According to the NCAA records Grambling finished #1 in 1979, Alcorn finished #1 in 1984 and Tenn. St. #1 in 1999.
