I was there as a HS junior, just amazed, and it clinched my want to go to Southern. Hell, I watch this clip each year before this game to get me ready and now you got me on a binge watching JSU-SU matchups at work ..... Thanks man! My boss will be calling you lol! (These Texas PWC's have no clue)

Ill never forget two years ago when Alcorn played Southern on HC and was up 24-7 at halftime I think, Southern came all the way back after blocking a punt and the Stadium just started rocking!!!! I remember looking at our players as they really got big eyed an had a terrified look.. Lol overall best atmosphere in the Swac

Clue About What? The a football Team comes before the Band. The Band is 2nd tier to the Football Team That is in High School and College. Most Pro Teams don't even have Bands.
You Band Folks need to realize your place at a football game. You are Part of the reason people come to the game. You are not THE MAIN ATTRACTION!!!!!

Dude, We were like this in the 80s when we didn't win championships. LOL. As a matter of fact, we were MORE rowdy then. You better had take your win and get the hell out of our stadium back then. LOL. The student section was crazy than a mofo and the fans were serious business. Jag Nation is just a moniker created in the 90s due to travel. But SU has always traveled. Even when we knew we would get beat. And coming to Mumford was even scarier for opposing fans back in the day. Nothing new because Pete came.The only thing changed was the expectations to whoop some arse on the field too. LOL.
Everybody was ruthless at SU in the 80s. The band (all male back then with serious knuckleheads and not suburban kids like it is now), the old school fans, the students, the surrounding area of Scotlandville. It's all nicey nice now.

Anytime 10-30k fans are yelling fuck "insert school name here" while the Jukebox is performing "Neck", that's pretty loud and obnoxious lol.
Naw bighead we shouldnt tell no stories about Southern football. Marcus Jacoby would b the first story they would print. I will just keep it modest his story about Southern would recieve some movie recognition.

That game is a game I remember quite well. I was in 6th or 7th grade. My pops who's JSU alum along with a few of his Fda co workers which were Su alum and myself(Jsu alum) all drove up from New Orleans to the game. Southern had the white Qb Jacoby, Steve Wofford. Jsu had Carson, Graiyln Pratt, a stingy defense. That pre game atmosphere was a beast. Very live! There were gun shots outside the stadium and all players, coaches, and staff dropped to the ground. I'm surprised nobody mentioned the gun shots. Pretty tight game but Southern pulled it off in the end.

Southern University coach Dawson Odums had a succinct message for Jaguars fans regarding the team's home opener against Jackson State this Saturday. Bring your A game.
"Be loud and obnoxious,'' Odums said during his weekly press conference Tuesday. "I've been at some places where we had home field advantage and when (the opposing team) got off the bus they were already down 14 points. That's the kind of atmosphere we have to create (Saturday) at A.W. Mumford Stadium. We have the kind of fans to create that.''
Southern and Jackson State meet Saturday at A.W. Mumford Stadium at 5 p.m. in a SWAC contest. That's the innocuous pronouncement of what will transpire.
In reality, this game means more to the fans, the players, the universities than most people know.
When the casual sports fan thinks of Southern football, it usually associates it with Grambling and the Bayou Classic.
The teams have squared off since the middle 1970s in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's a rivalry noted by American football fans as much as Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-Ohio State or USC-UCLA. It's shown on NBC so there's national television coverage.
And the battle of the bands along with the halftime show is worth the price of admission.
But if you ask Southern fans, you might get a surprising answer to whom they think is their chief SWAC rival. Many believe it's Jackson State.

LOL...Real talk that's why I don't want this game to be a neutral site game. I like that hostile us-against-the-world setting the home-and-home gives SU-Jackson State. It's one of the best atmospheres going.
