They Contracted to Play Bama St in Mobile EVERY Year (b/c they was jealous of JSU playing there every odd year, so they figured they would play EVERY year)
They're TRYING so hard to be like Big Daddy JSU! :lecture:

Please tell me this would not have been SU's year to host Bamma State at Mumford if they had not signed to play in Mobile every year.:lecture:
And they have started playing TnSt on the regular again.

I'm going to start calling SU the Scottieville Globe Trotters.

Let us all just enjoy the sights and sounds of the best two bands, teams, fans, dancers & ladies in the land. JSU vs SU, can't get no better than these two Kingpins. THIS IS BETTER THAN THE SOUTHERN HERITAGE CLASSIC IN MEMPHIS.

Hold yall horses Braddy may save TC and Mr Clean AZZES

And he said there are several things still in the air with the Southern-JSU game being moved to Jackson.

The two schools will split the gate this year with 80 percent going to Southern. Then in 2010, 80 percent going to JSU. Braddy expects to come out ahead despite giving up some money in 2010.

The thing is, the details are still in the air and nothing has been signed.

Just got off the phone with Southern AD Greg LaFleur and they think they can make twice as much as they would by having the game at home. When asked about losing home field advantage, he said that can't be measure and he won't worry about that. LaFleur said he can count people in the stands, though.

One of the kinks that I see right now, since there is no signed agreement, is parking/concessions. Braddy said it's their home game and the split only deals with the gate. LaFleur said the split counts all revenue. Obviously, that's something that will need to be worked out.

But LaFleur said this is not a knee-jerk reaction to the economy and the fact the school is facing major cuts. Remember, the recently lost women's golf and men's tennis. But he called this an opportunity that's four years in the making.

Buc98... your AD can't get around giving JSU money. lol. If the SAINTS play in Memorial Jackson State gets paid. That's why Braddy doesn't mind giving up 20% of TICKETS in 2010. He's willing to do that if it means getting the game in Jackson evvveery year. The State Legislature/DFA has it setup that JSU doesn't have to pay to use Memorial and ANY EVENT held there JSU GETS PAID. lol. Maybe LaFleur didn't read the fine print.

The last two games there averaged 42,157.

This season, they’ll kick off at 6 p.m. in Jackson.

SU coach Pete Richardson said he would have preferred to play Jackson State in Mumford Stadium — but when asked about a possible move last month, Richardson said he understands it’s a matter of dollars and cents.

“I think part of the issue is being able to play at home. And it’s an advantage for them to have an opportunity to play at home against one of your rivals,” Richardson said. “But I also realize, economically, if it puts you in a situation to help out the total program, then I’m receptive to that also. They’ll make that decision, and when they do, I’ll get ready to play them, regardless of whether it’s here or there.”

Our newly renovated stadium would be able to pack 30,000 people into the arena, SU would be at home in Baton Rouge, and would take 100% of the money with no negotiations needed. We would not have to worry about travel expenses for the football team, band, or cheerleaders either.

He is taking a huge risk. If SU or JSU fans don't get amped up about this game and choose not to attend, it could blow up in his face. For this deal to be truly successful, the game has to have more than 40,000 people show up. He needs 50,000 in the stadium for his plan to really pay off.

Mumford Stadium
30,000 x $30= $900,000- 100% going to SU, not including parking, tailgating, and concession revenue. Plus we don't spend money on travel expenses.

Memorial Stadium- 40,000 scenario
40,000 x $30=$1,200,000- 80% going to SU would be about $960,000, not including concession revenue( With the way parking is in Jackson, I just don't see how SU could factor that into their potential revenue.) You have to deduct travel expenses for football team, band, and cheerleaders.

This is very crude math on my part, because can't really determine how many seats the bands take, or the different ticket prices for different groups of people.Basically, he better hope that SU and JSU fans show up for this game, or he will have some explaining to do. I am certain SU fans will ask him to explain in detail about how much SU made in revenue after the game in Jackson in comparison to how much would have been made in Mumford.

Not only it could be a financial nightmare, but this put a burden on Southern's fans. Southern fans would be forced to travel to Jackson back to back, which means more travel expense, i.e. gas, hotel, and dining out.

Have Ole Miss ever moved their game to LSU because LSU have a larger stadium? Just plain :retard:

Hopefully many of you Southern fans are blaming this on the Louisiana Legislature and their lack of funding of higher education.

If we're lucky, perhaps you'll turn that anger into phone calls that will urge our legislators to restore the cuts...

Southern U. moves JSU game to Jackson for $$$
Kareem Copeland • [email protected] • June 11, 2009

Jackson State football fans have at least one reason to cheer the sagging economy: It apparently has produced another home game for the Tigers this fall.

Saying the school can make more money playing in Jackson than in Baton Rouge, Southern University officials have moved the Jaguars' Oct. 3 home game against Jackson State to 60,492-seat Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The two SWAC East division rivals play yearly, alternating sites, but the chance to sell 40,000 or more tickets in Jackson outweighed the home-field advantage that comes with 28,000-seat A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge.

"You can't measure (home-field advantage)," said Southern athletic director Greg LaFleur, whose school is facing stiff budget cuts and recently eliminated its women's golf and men's tennis teams. "I can't worry about the part I can't measure.

"But we can count cheeks in the seats."

The schools have a verbal agreement, but nothing has been signed. While cash is the primary factor in the decision, how the money will be shared has not been solidified.

The schools agreed in principle to a two-year deal to play in Jackson. Southern will receive 80 percent of the profits in 2009 and JSU will take home 80 percent in 2010.

LaFleur said the 80 percent includes all revenue. JSU athletic director Bob Braddy, however, said it only includes the gate, with concession and parking revenue going to JSU
