Southern Football Notes pt2: 2007

Nope. Don't know him.

I bet this guy remembers who he is. In fact...he "saw first glimpse" of him BC 2006.
(No pun intended)

SMH. Maybe if they were well coached then they wouldn't have fumbled. LOL

That my friend is the truth... last year's team lost confidence in Spears due to poor game management and suspect play calling. Initially the losses were close, and then the team lost confidence in Spear and it became Them (Spears/Coaching Staff) against us (Players)... that is never gonna get it done. Not taking anything from SU, but by the end of the season the guys were just playing out the season. You should have seen how bad it was in the season ender against Alcorn. Sad thing is that Spears is a good X and O guy..but it takes more than X and O's. It takes game planning and game management.

But: Give Bryant Lee his due...the kid has ability and talent.

NO

"AIR" is going to take flight Sept.1st you will see. They can't afford not to play "AIR."

I talked to him yesterday and I wanted to make sure to see if it was his nickname and the scrimmage was great and the Jukebox sounded smooth. I'm going back out tonight if the weather is ok.

I agree with you MB. Spears lost that team last season. Aint no way Gram should have been 3-8. That team had enough talent coming back to win 8 games at the least. Spears got caught up being big boss dog.......basically his ego got him.

Bryant Lee has something you can't coach...........he is a winner. He was 27-1 in HS as a starting Qb, won the state championship, never lost to much ballyhooed LSU Ryan Perriloux head to head. Lee has that intangible about him. He manages the game and he is not a QB that is going to cause you to lose a game, but will be good enough to win a game for you whether he has to run or throw. I like the kid's demeanor and he is a smart kid. I didn't think we would have to start him until next year when JC was done. But things done changed around the Bluff with Pete and company. We'll see how Lee adjusts to being a full time starter. The Matthews kid sounds like a real athlete with a canon arm. So I guess he will press Lee. Don't count out JC either. Something he has over the other Qbs is experience. I think we should move CJ Byrd to Rb or WR. THat kid is too good of an athlete to be on the bench as the 4th Qb. We could use him like we did Jamal Huff a few years ago.

Something about Lee reminds me of Eric Randall. Maybe not the biggest arm in the league but a good arm nonetheless. But what reminded me of Eric was how this kid made the right decision to bail out of the pocket and pick up the first down. Plus 27-1 is impressive, especially when you're talking about playing in the 5A Classification. Their state championship win came against Evangel in the very last year ( I think) that Evangel played at that level, so you know they wanted to win that sucka.

Taking nothing from Lee, but you will find a much better coached defense at Grambling this year. Yoshida as compared to Palmer is like MikeBigg compared to TP. :lmao::lmao:

Why you do that to po TP? You aint right MB.:D

Well, who was that?

Beans, the Qb that played against you guys was CJ Byrd. He is more of a running Qb than a passer. East Texas kid. You know they run the rock in Texas. Good athlete and great student. We should move him to WR or RB though to get him on the field. He is playmaker, but is not a good passer or consistent in that area. But if he gets in the open field, he can take it to the house.

Oh, ok. Why was he playing instead of this Lee kid?

When JC got hurt. Byrd was the first to get the call. Then Byrd and Lee started splitting duties until Lee finally took over at the end of the season. Byrd seemed to take a little more command of the team at the time when we played JSU. Plus he is the fastest of all the Qbs. With our running game stuck in neutral before Kendall Addison started playing, Byrd was considered a good option to help with the run. But as Pete found out that CJ is not the most accurate passer then Lee started getting more looks. I also think Lee got more confident as time went on last season. Byrd was the Qb Pete sacrificed not redshirting his Freshman year. Lee got redshirted in 05. So Byrd came into last season as the number 2 Qb.

Oh, ok. So, if Lee gets in trouble, he will more likely take a sack since he's not faster than Byrd?

No, not at all. Lee is mobile, just not like Byrd. Byrd is shorter(5'11) and fast like Sam George used to be back in 98. Lee is 6-2 195 and can run and pass. He is one of those Qbs that make good decisions and not beat himself. Folks think he reminds them of Quincy Richard. All I know is you don't go 27-1 at the 5A level as a starting Qb and win a State Championship against Evangel by throwing 4 TDs and not have poise under pressure. Kid is a winner. The best athlete we have at Qb is the "Air" kid as some have named him. Kid is 6'3 220lbs, fast, strong and has a canon arm. He is R-Soph. He will start off in the number 2 slot. I am assuming Pete is going to use JC as the fail safe 3rd Qb if these guys falter. Byrd is going to be in 4th hole, and there is a big kid from Gulfport that was a Fr last season in the 5th slot.

MB,

I was shole pissed at Gram while watching the Hampton game...Spears 'nem lost that game, not the players. How can you not take advantage of a team's offense without it's no. 1 rusher and QB :splat::splat::splat::splat::splat:

All the Bud Lights I put down couldn't mask my disgust.

Everyone talked about that when he put him the TSU game in 05, messed up his redshirt year for mop up duty.

I don't see how you got that out of what he said.

Yeah frat, I was wondering why Pete did that too. I am still mad he didn't redshirt Gerard Landry either his Fr year. Pete also wasted our former all-SWAC WR Vernon's Freshmen year. We had a ton of WRs that year and Pete put him in a game that meant nothing. SMH.
