The University of Nevada has found what it hopes will be just the right draw to pack Mackay Stadium for its football season opener - the world class Grambling Marching Band.

The Grambling State Band is known as the best band in the land. It's a highly polished, highly entertaining experience on game day. And officials at UNR expect them to draw a crowd of 25,000 to Mackay Stadium for the game.

But here's the catch. They don't play for free. Unlike most marching bands who finance their own travel, Grambling State demands travel expenses to appear and they get it. Rumors are that that pricetag is anywhere from $30,000 to $150,000. And UNR is footing the bill which would probably not be causing heartburn if UNR's own band program weren't on the budget chopping block.

Very interesting. Some people don't realize how much it costs for a band to travel. You have to factor in the actual travel, hotels for everyone, and usually 3 meals a day. The price tag is hefty, and increases seemingly with every mile you add on.

......UNR Band Director finna raise h ell lol!

From this point, if UNR BS him around on future band funding; this Grambling thing gone come up.

Good isht though Grambling, ain mad at'cha lol

An don't forget is cost to drag that big bass drum around. That's a whole bus by itself.

all the jokes and GSU Band is still racking up that money lol: so sad some other bands can't demand that doe!
And oh whoever wrote the article says GSU is only taking 179 members, correction they are taking 200 members!

Loosen up in the arse. If somebody stuck a potato chip in your arse, it would prolly break when you walk. It's just jokes man.

I understand UNR band director's point, but the school is obviously looking at potential return on investment. Unless there is some sort of major dissaster they are going to make a profit from the band coming.

man yall need to quit hatin, cause the only travelin some of ya bands are doin include a bus ride down the street. not kool. GSU still and will always make that bread. take ur shirt and all the haters stop breathin. GSU is a pimp and everyone else are our hoez

Now Grambling is just pimpin po Nevada on this... they don't need that much money. They can overnight that rolling bass drum... trying to take it as a carry on and sh*t..:smh:

I can tell the Boom don't travel by plane much! It takes money to charter planes, hotels, food! GSU always demands money up front and will continue to do so! It's not called pimping it's strictly business!

They aint get no money from AAMU two years ago..... now they may get money this year because there is a battle of the bands the day after AAMU's homecoming (AAMU and GSU play for AAMU's homecoming)

Cain't blame Grambling for making that scrilla.......

Gone out there an do ya thang!!!!!

But... wear the old unis (the black ones). Otherwise, yall'll look like a buncha French's Mustard bottles running around the field..... :swink:

they only wear that gold crap to bs games, the black and gold or the black and red unis will be worn for sure!

Can't blame the Nevada band director. Paying for another schools band to come perform, but they are asking him to make cuts to his budget? Looks like a slap in the face to me.
