Some Folks Want Reagan on Currency

From AOL News

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., a speechwriter in the Reagan White House, plans to introduce a bill to put Reagan on the $20 bill, replacing another venerable Democrat, Andrew Jackson.

That would join a previous proposal, by Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind., to provide for dimes bearing the likeness of Reagan.

The office of Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said he would pursue an idea he has pushed for several years, placing Reagan on the $10 bill now bearing the visage of Hamilton, the first Treasury secretary.

Regan has done nothing to be deserving of being put on a penny and certainly not a twenty or ten dollar bill. Some want a memorial to him and to put him on Mt. Rushmore. I guess next we'll have the United States of Reagan.

I hope you remember these comments when Bill Clinton dies. Because I'm sure others will make even more arguments and say he is not worthy to even appear on food stamps.

Regardless.

Regardless, this thread is about Reagan, not Clinton. Clinton, I'm sure, will be discussed when the time comes whether he wants to be on currency or not since Republicans continue to discuss him even though he is out of office. Clinton stays on their mind more than presidents and officials from their own party. They are obsessed with him to the point of seemingly being possessed by him. Reagan would not have wanted to be considered for having his face put on food stamps since his "walfare queen" comment showed that he attributed the program to Blacks. He wouldn't, IMO, wanted to be associated with something that he thought "benefited African Americans" and/or was "too black".

But since you brought it up, and on the other hand, I can see some of the bigots in the Republican party who agree with Reagan's "welfare queen" line of thinking proposing that Clinton's face be put on food stamps (and I know that there are bigots in both parties). Since he got along with and tried to include all people, regardless of color, they would think of it as Clinton's "proper comeuppance." What's even sadder is that there will probably be some blacks in the party who would think this way, too.

Regards.

Uhh, did you not see the election/re-election results of Ronald Reagan?

The dude won one of, if not the most lopsided victories in history.

He won 49 of 50 states man.

It was obvious then that the overwhelming majority of voters agreed with his policy.

You don't have too....I don't really care.

Just remember that when someone you agreed with dying having thier image put on currency questioned you will at least agree to disagree.

And Bill Clinton is not worthy enough to be put on a food stamp.

Mabye a Cigar band or Condom Wrapper would be more appropriate.
:D

Granted, he got 49 out of 50. But you know as well as I that many votes are "against" a particular candidate instead of "for" the other. But be that as it may.

This is not about a "vote" for office, but what he did while in office (and many people come to regret voting for a candidate after he or she gets in office; even "re-elected" ones). From this black man's perspective, he did nothing for us and served to polarize the nation collectively more than unite it. His accomplishments, as minimal as they are, do not measure up to others who have had such an honor as being put on currency. They worked for the collective good of the country, despite their limitations. Reagan worked for "his people."

Later in time when those with Reagan blinders on have passed off the scene, history will judge how good his presidency really was. The double digit deficient numbers, high interest rates, Iran-Contra affair, etc, etc, won't make for a pretty assessment (and I know, he's attributed to winning the cold war even though Russia was already on the brink of bankruptcy).

Don't assume you know my views from keystrokes well enough to discern my views on Clinton getting a "currency/memorial honor." So you'll know, despite the fact I view Clinton as an outstanding president when compared to Reagan, I don't think he or any other president during my lifetime should receive such an honor. Kennedy might have had a shot at it had he lived and continued to perform well in the office. However, I wouldn't consider him after just three years on the job. An honor like that, for me, goes well beyond just agreeing with their policies. They have to make contributions and provide leadership for the entire citizenry of the country that causes it to progress and flourish, not just actions that benefit their own political base and further polarize the nation.

I agree to disagree, and I have no problem with people who disagree with me. They just haven't seen the light, yet.:) And if they want to stay in the dark, that's their business because, also, I really don't care. :D

Doc, those are some excellent posts. One must consider this. The worst or second worst post WWII recession came in 1982. When he was elected and re-elected most eligible voters did not vote.

Great Post?

Could either of you explain how this is epic...

Man, you peeps amaze me with these "I hate conservatives" circle jerks you have from time to time.

ummm,
Of all that Doc Mac posted, I see you only quoted a sentence or two.

Instead of diverting to Clinton and props from other posters, why don't you instead post your reasons why Reagan is epic and should be placed on currency and/or memorials like Mt. Rushmore if you believe that he should. And don't quote the standard Republican talking points like "he was the eternal optismist", "a great communicator", etc., etc, or their recycled idealogy that he tried to put into action. State the things he did that made this country the better off for it, his innovative approaches to policy that transcended party lines and benefitted all Americans, where he led in a crisis or in any way that was new, invigorating, and created a higher standard, etc, etc. Basically, using a Pro ball player analogy; there are a lot of big league ball players, what's makes him a "Hall of Famer"; in this case, what makes him a Hall of Fame President vs. just being another one who served?

Stay his case if you believe he is worthy.

Just what part of the thumbs pointing down do you find epic?

Cuz I didn't think the comments he quoted by AOL news were in your so called "I left them out category!"

Bruh, there is nothing I can state in Reagan's legacy that you will accept as worthy.

Do you seriously think in the bastion of an internet forum dialouge I will convert years of disdain and obvious non-acceptance?

If you think I can post anything to do that, then you give me way to much credit.

I'd much rather point out your use of cut and pasting an AOL news header you didn't agree with and 30 thumbs down to prove a point. And I use Bill Clinton because I can....he always strikes a nerve with you libs.

And please get off that nothing for US tangent, that isht is older than the Fred Sandford heart attack routine.

I'm gonna give you some advice in hopes that allieviates some of that baggage you obviously have built over the years Mac....

No one is going to do a dayuummm thing for US but US!!
You will never get retribution from a former slave master!!!

I left the Democratic party a few years ago for the very reason that they constantly preaced a pipe dream that was impossible to happen.

Doc,
First of all, another great post. :D

But, I think you're asking too much. The black Republicans/conservatives that I've come across get completely stumped when you ask them to state their case, independent of bashing something about the Democratic Party or diverting to some trivial matter that has nothing to do with the discussion. I mean, just look at the retorts on this thread, all because you dared to question something Republican. And still, not even something remotely close to an answer. VERY typical.

carry on

I am shocked that religious people in the country are deifying a man. It’s Un-Christian, Un-Islamic and Un_Judaic activity.

MH, WTF are you talking about? What you don't seem to get is that no matter what answers, retorts, comments or bitreal I return gets deemed as unnacceptable. Why? Because you don't agree with it.

And there has only been one black republican/conservative to comment in this thread.....the only question I asked was how could a 3 line AOL blurb and about 30 thumbs down be an epic post in your eyes. But then again, episodes of Maury Povich and Jerry Springer is epic television in the eyes of most chronic droolers.

And last I checked the black republican/conservative agenda is resounding a hell of a lot more loudly than you think it is lately.

Please explain to me why there are currently 7 African-Americans in this country elected to state wide office as Republicans yet there are 0 African-American Democrats elected on the state level.

Now I will explain the significance of that to you if you would like me to , but no matter what I say you don't want to hear it.

I just like to hear you Dems defend an entity that constantly bends you over every election cycle, yet you continue to take the abuse and bash those of us that were smart enough to move on.

Yeah, it's kinda like an episode of Maury Povich I guess.

well if you're not gonna answer the questions, whats the use of coming in diverting with comments that have NOTHING to do with the subject (Clinton, cigars, food stamps)

the only question I asked was how could a 3 line AOL blurb and about 30 thumbs down be an epic post in your eyes.
ummm, see the 3rd post in the thread. I was agreeing with that.

Please explain to me why there are currently 7 African-Americans in this country elected to state wide office as Republicans yet there are 0 African-American Democrats elected on the state level.
ummm, that's as wrong as wrong can get. And I can look no further than my own state of Georgia, where there are 2 yes, 2 African-American Democrats elected on the state level. Thurbert Baker, Attorney General,
Michael Thurmond, State Labor Commissioner
if you throw in the State Supreme Court, also elected, you got Leah Sears and Robert Benham
so, you're grossly mistakened on that count.

but I really don't see what that has to do with this thread here though.

In the words of your conservative Icon "there you go, again" diverting. But I really didn't expect an answer because there is no answer to give. You're right, nobody will do nothing for us but us; "Ronnie-
Ray Gun and his boys policies placed more obstacles in "us's" way to making that happen. If you can't see that, cool: stay in the dark with the other 9% of the African Americans who voted for him in '84. Like I said, I really don't care.

Regards.

and damn,
how could I forget ASU's own Jesse White, the elected Secretary of State in Illinois, who's also a Democrat.

Jesse White was elected the 37th Illinois Secretary of State in November 1998. In November 2002, he was reelected by winning all 102 counties and garnering more than 2.3 million votes ? the largest vote total by any candidate for Illinois statewide office in a quarter of a century.

Cool, I will be the first to admit when I am wrong. So there are 3 blacks elected statewide on the Democratc ticket in comparison to 7 that were elected on the Republican ticket.
Thanks for getting me straight on that.

but I really don't see what that has to do with this thread here though.
Dr. Mac, pretty much every president in Modern history has had one common denominatior other than being a white male. They have been elected on a statewide level prior to becoming president.

Demographically, statewide elections are a gauge on voting trends, party affiliations, percentage bases, etc. You won't garnish support on a national level unless you garnish it on the state level. The 7 to 2 comparison should show you right there that the conservative agenda resounds a hell of a lot more loudly than you want to give credit to. Which means people embrace the conservative agenda more than you want to let on. Again, I will give credit where credit is due.....congratulations on having only 3 African-American statewide elected officials...I would think that a 95% voting demograph would yield higher results.

ohakam:

I don't know where you're getting your numbers from but, without me checking on other states, I know of at least one in Ohio and one in Louisiana.

But that's not the subject of this thread. This not about the making of the president.

On the real:

You should take an objective look at the issues and positions of what each candidate has to offer and make your decisions that way instead of adhering to some prescribed party line as it appears you might do (and granted: I really don't know what you do). No party will solve all of anybody's problems but they shouldn't overtly and deliberately put into practice policies that will hamper achievement either. Reagan's policies, IMO, made racism ok again. That's the main issue I have with him and we are still seeing the affects of it today. No leader should do that.

And BTW: I'm a registered independent. I think for myself. I don't adhere to anybody's party line, Try it sometimes.

Regards.

BTW, did I mention that two of those Seven are Lt. Governer's....which is a higher office than sec. of the state.

One of them is the Lt. Gov of Ohio.

There would have been 3 Lt. Gov. elected on the Rep. ticket if the Lt. Gov of Colorodo ran for re-election.

The Sec. of State in Ohio is a Black Republican...as is the Lt. Gov. I don't think there are any in L.A. I'll ask someone from there though.

But that's not the subject of this thread. This not about the making of the president.

Mac, I simply retorted your rhetoric with rhetoric, now we are in a debate about rhetoric (perceived). And I make the party line argument for the conservative side of things because I see so many so-called Independents blast the Right and never the Left. I really think a lot of so-called black independents are just in denial about how their party treats them. I know about 50 black Independents that have never voted for a republican in thier life....they always (admittingly) vote for democrats...they are just too ashamed to admit voting for democrats.

And BTW: I'm a registered independent. I think for myself. I don't adhere to anybody's party line, Try it sometimes.

BTW, I have been a registered Democrat, Independent, and am now a republican....I think I have tried it, and found what best suits me. If the Republican party pisses me off then I'll bounce on them too.

Peace...

ohakam:

My bad. Your post said "state-wide" office, I misread it as "state-office" like state reps if, in fact you are talking about state wide office.

But, again, that's a diversion.

I stand by my views (what you labeled rhetoric (perceived)) on worthiness of Reagan (and as I stated, any president in my lifetime) being honored in the way some want to honor him. His record does not measure up, and to the degree that I described in my first post (my thirty thumbs down that you counted: I didn't count them, thanks).

Since you believe its incapable of being done via this medium, hopefully you will explain your rationale to me should we one day meet.

Regards.
