Signing Day Misses - Are HBCUs Hurting Ourselves

Where do they go on the other end? It seems way more kids go JUCO than get rerecruited by big or mid market FBS programs.

bruh only a handful get that SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12 scholarship they THOUGHT they were gone get. How this plays out is a lot of them end up going to your Nichols St's, Northwestern St's, McNeese St's, Middle Tennessee State's, and etc. The VAST majority of these kids end up flaming out in JUCO, never to be heard from again.

The JUCO's in Mississippi are nothing more than farm teams for FBS schools. There will be JUCO's in Mississippi playing for the JUCO national Championship every year. East Mississippi CC won it last year. Mississippi Gulf Coast CC finished 6th in the Nation.

If these kids are not recruited or don't get to got to a FBS school they really want to go to, they know they will get all kinds of second looks at these places. A lot of FBS schools steer kids to these places knowing they will be back recruiting them again in 2 years because they don't have the schollie for them now.

The schools in Florida used this to the extreme. Hinds CC back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, was jokingly known as Florida State at Mississippi because of all the Florida kids recruited by Florida State that ended up there. Mississippi State is the same way and these kids buy into that shat. Keeping the FBS SEC DREAM alive for at least 2 more years.

I wasn't trying to say shat about Miss State or Ole Miss. I just answered the question as to why JSU, ALCORN, AND VALLEY can't attract the top 100 in our state with 3 instate FBS schools and 4 more National Powers in the states surrounding us. he talking about SU having LSU to compete with and SU can't even out recruit the other FCS schools in the state. Forget LSU.

The HBCU's in states like Louisana can't even compete with Lau. Tech and Lou laf. D2 schools give us recruiting headaches. A kid would rather sign JUCO and hope to catch on with a FBS program in 2 years than sign with us right now. ACROSS THE BOARD. Forget who wants to come to Starksville and Oxford. Looking around, mofos need to ask who wants to come to Jackson, Gram, Baton Rougue, Montgomery, Huntsville (normal)P. View, or UAPB to live for 4 years.

As usual, always one poster come in and start the "who want to come to Mississippi crap" when nobody was even talking about that shat. He wanted to know nwhy those schools was not powers and I asked the same question back to him on the ones I nammed. I mean after all, they not located in Mississippi and I'm sure they could convince top 20 kids to sign with them like bees to honey.

I swear, some of these posters, if you even breath the word Mississippi act like some white mofo from Mississippi whipped them and had them in the cotton fields. These same mofos that has never even lived without airconditioning.

I only asked who would want to play at Ole Miss and Miss. State for two reasons:
A. Those places aren't exactly tourists destinations.
B. Those football program historically haven't been contention for the conference championship or national championships as part of the SEC despite those schools being the flagship and party institutions of the state. Sorry if I offended your beloved state, I think. Sheesh. LOL

last I checked Auburn, AlleyBammy, Columbia, Souf CackyLack, Lexington, Kentucky, and etc. aren't tourist hubs either. It's the friggin SEC. Kids see exposure, facilities, and big campuses. The SEC brand is the biggest selling point. I don't care if the school was Spitbucket State University, if they were in the SEC kids would flock to that school. That's the cold honest truth.

I never tried explaining this concept because I know that no matter what I say, he still gonna be stuck on "Who wants to live in Oxford and Starksville for 4 years" and thinking he getting a giggle in on me because he's "sorry for OFFENDING MY BELOVED state." Some of these posters really make me laugh with the "stuck up" stuff they type

As long as these kids are starting in the SEC, they don't give a damm about Oxford and Starksville not being a multi-million resident tourist attraction.

Yea, but unlike the Mississippi schools most of the others can say at least you have a chance to win a championship here. Well Kentucky is pretty much in the same boat.

OH GOT-DAMM. :goof:
Could we go back to talking about WHY HBCU'S CAN'T OUT RECRUIT GOOD HIGHSCHOOLS. Fugg Mississippi Schools, Mississippi, Miss State, Ole Miss, etc.

Ok?...................

Alabama and Auburn have historically been tremendous football teams over the a long period of time. So, those schools located where they are really doesn't matter that much. Kentucky isn't a football school. They don't count.

South Carolina, although not on the same level as LSU, Bama, Auburn, Florida etc., have made splashes in hiring big name head coaches in Lou Holtz and now Steve Spurrier in the last 15 years. The Gamecocks have tried to play big boy football. Their recruits and improvement on the field say as much. You can say the same for Arkansas.

Again, if the SEC is the place to be for prep athletes, then why haven't Ole Miss and Miss. State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt benefited from that relationship? Why aren't more great players flocking to those schools to play football?

Grades may be the reason. I notice from the rosters of the AL/MS all star game that there were only 3 MS players who had committed to 4 yr institutions where as all of the Bama players except 2 had committed to those school. It appears that JSU, Alcorn and Valley are in good position to recruit those same athletes if they matriculated and get their associate degree.

Let me try to explain it to you like this, the SEC is the Jackson family. You can debate about who gets to be Micheal and Janet. Miss. St. and Ole Miss are maybe the Tito and Jermaine of the family. If you look at them in the scope of the family OF COURSE they look subpar, but if you compare them to the ordinary cat walking the streets they are more talented, have made waaaay more money, been a variety of exotic places, and had exposure to a higher quality of beautiful people to possibly "date". Hope this helps, even though it probably won't.

I agree except for the part about Ole Miss and Miss St being Tito and Jermaine. They're more like the Reebie and Randy of the family.

+1. Thank you. I DGAFF about what happens in the sec, big xii, pac xii, and the rest. It's shameful I've witnessed the downward spiral of this conference during my own lifetime. :smh:

I feel like what some may have felt watching the ***** leagues go asunder :smh:

I got tired of listening to all the YT excuses, everybody for self, and isolation.
Last 5 years, I just been watching the wings come off at 27,000 ft while the people running this conference and supporting this isolation shat watch our programs get weaker and more distant to recruits every year.

Let the blind tell the story, the SWACs direction and isolationist image has not hurt us BAAAAAAAAAAAD. Kids see this shat and look elsewhere. Even the 2nd and 3rd line recruits look at JUCOS before they look at a 4 year scollie from "us."

+1. :smh: j83, you up there flying @ 36K ft and the wings fell off @ 27K ft. :smh: It's spiraling down fast and somebody didn't make those folx in charge understand that they're about to crash and burn.

I'm on the ground witnessing a bunch of dummies driving the SWAC bus and the wheels fell off that fuggra a loooooooong time ago. And now they've commenced to playing the part of Bam-Bam and Pebbles w/ their feet on the ground doing the Flintstones tryna' get that bad boy to move and it ain't happening. Stone age mentality yields stone age actions. :smh:

Another reason these JUCOs signed so many this year is the end of the old "protected zones."
JUCOs in Mississippi can no longer "protect" left over players in their districts. Coaches can recruit these D1 1st teamers that didn't qualify academically or on their act scores. The State and national Champion JUCO programs came in like a Hoover vaccum and sucked up alll the rest of the unsigned talent.

Mississippi JUCO's............ The new recruiting process.

Cordarrly Gaines says it started before his senior season at Provine High kicked off.

The stampede of junior college coaches chasing after the Dandy Dozen offensive lineman didn't end until last week's National Signing Day, when he scribbled his name on scholarship papers binding him to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

"Every day," Gaines said, "you would see a new one."

For the first time ever, Mississippi's junior college coaches were allowed to dip into each others' "local" areas and steal away stars - players who would have been "protected" by the local college under the previous rule.

Schools could protect as many as 22 players each year from their districts, assuring they get their community's best players

Small College/JUCO report

McNair Jr. undecided
Pearl River Community College defensive back Steve McNair Jr., the son of the late NFL quarterback, is still undecided where he'll play next season.

"I haven't really talked to anybody," McNair Jr. said on Thursday. "Right now I'm just trying to finish up these classes."

McNair, a former Dandy Dozen star at Oak Grove, finished with 29 tackles and three interceptions this season after moving from receiver to defensive back.

Steve McNair Jr............ YaHoo Sports Bio ........ Verbal commit to USM in 2009. .

Y'all are going to have to come up with more excuses.

Auburn and Alabama only signed 13 players from the state of Alabama between the two of them. Thirteen players total for both schools! Prattville alone had 23 players sign college scholarships.

In Mississippi, the story is a little different because Dan Mullen has committed to recruiting Mississippi. MSU signed 16 from the state this year. Ole Miss typically recruits out of state and normally only signs a handful of recruits from Mississippi. USM takes whatever they can get. Still, you're looking at only 25 - 30 guys going to the Big 3 schools.

If you're talking about recruiting the top 100 in the state, then that leaves you 70 guys in Mississippi and more than 80 guys in Alabama.

bruh did you NOT see that long ass list of names of the kids in Mississippi signing to go JUCO? They still have SEC dreams and the JUCO coaches are raking them in.

OK............... I'll bite ................What the heck are you talking about excuses?

Who GAS about what Alabama and Auburn signs. Half the mofos that they don't sign in Bamma and other states surrounding this place come here and enroll in JUCOs. Did you not see where I highlighted that out of the top 100 in Mississippi, only 5 even considered a HBCU. 5 out of 100 highschool players that went to Valley, TSU, and JSU.

We talking about no matter how much or how little the BIG SCHOOLS SIGN, the rest will go enroll at a JUCO or a D2 before they sign with "US". And the "US" are HBCUs................ That means HBCU's in Bamma and Louisana also . :smh:

So, none of those kids are realistic and SEC dreams are sending them to juco.

I see.

Isn't it true that SEC schools typically accept only a few jucos each year? Two to five, typically?

If that IS true, what does it mean if SWAC schools still can't compete with jucos for recruits? What must be done to make SWAC schools a more attractive alternative?

We making excuses even though we have backed up everything we said with facts. This is why we so far behind in sports as HBCUS. People don't want to hear the truth. The truth is these kids don't even want to look our way anymore.

The truth is, the SWAC has screwed itself up so bad, we can't even get into the living rooms of kids that are down to their last D1 hopes. They would rather play for a JUCO for the next 2 years before they even put us on the visit list.

The question should be, WHAT DO THE SWAC DO IN 2012 TO MAKE ITSELF MORE ATTRACTIVE TO RECRUITS.

I think its safe to say that after the last 20 years of burying our head in the sand, and talking about how other FCS conferences WISH they was us because of attendance,, nobody actually believe we can live on past glory anymore. That shat played out for the SWAC when McNair left Alcorn in 1995.

Other than complain?

What is we gon' do?

Stop living in the past, acting like OUR grass is greener than MR. YT, and realize we got to change the way this conference do business to get back into these livingrooms.
