Because WE are better than the 1-AA playoffs just like the 1-A playoffs is better than a consolation bowl. How about you send your BEST to Heritage Bowl and your #2 team to the playoffs. You don't give someone else your best. You keep that for yourself. That is why you look at the SEC and ACC now and see all of our children playing for them instead of us.

This might be MY UTOPIA but the way I see this is that we maximize this "Heritage Bowl", get 50-60K in the Georgia Dome, increase the payout and eventually start beating these playoff teams in the regular season. Make them envy what WE have for a change. Can we do that or nah?

What incentive for a MEAC school to finish in first place if they weren't going to the playoffs?

in the scenario that I describe, this year, Morgan would have gone to the playoffs, and SCSU, or BCU maybe would have played the SWAC champ in whatever this game would be called.

why that bad?

Florida State won the ACC this year. and they are in the playoff hunt for the title. But if they were not, then they would have gone to a regular bowl, whichever one that was. Now, that bowl has to take the next best ACC team, since Florida State isn't available. and they will do that and move one.

why cant this HBCU bowl take the next best team, and move on in the same way
?

Why in the world would you even remotely think that ESPN (or any network) is going to give the meac 1 million dollars to send their second best team to their National title game, other than pure selfishness and wanting to have your cake and eat it too?

THE MEAC ISN'T A BIG EAST OR SEC CONFERENCE!

Which part of that don't you get?

that's where we disagree tigerpride......

yes, there would be black colleges in the game, but its not OUR game.....the game is only even being talked about because a major WHITE media outlet, ESPN, is talking about funding it. it would be OUR game, in my opinion, if Oprah was funding it...or RObert JOhnson (well maybe not him) but you see what I mean...to me, as far as college sports goes, the NCAA and ESPN are in bed together for the bowl/playoffs so to leave the FCS playoffs for this game isn't going from THEM, to US. its playing for THEM both ways. and we want to play for the same title EVERYONE plays for. that's all.

I see what you are saying...but the HBCU playoffs isn't US.....its playing for the money THEY are willing to give.

OUR game would be if the 100 black men kicked out money for it. Or the Divine 9. Or Oprah. Let Tyler Perry fund it....then its OUR game. and even then, I would still say, let the champ choose.....but then, it would be OUR game.....

ESPN paying you isn't OUR game.....its THEIR game....that wouldn't be what WE have....it would be what THEY gave us.

I do get it...we are not the SEC...or anything close to it. But apparently, we THINK we are more than you THINK we are. and that's okay. Its just a difference of opinion. Everyone opinion of themselves is different.

Well you have to get folks out of the mind-set that because no white school is involved in the game that it means it is degrading or bad to be involved.

Well at least we can agree on that.

In a screwy kind of way, I see your point. But at the end of the day, ESPN only sees value in us and I see nothing wrong with their money being used for US... Aren't blacks still the #1 US consumer? They wouldn't even approach other schools to do it. They are not treating us any different that any other bowl sponsor treats their teams/conferences. YOU just seem to prefer to want to be treated like the little man (FCS teams) rather than the big man (BCS team).

well, I don't believe that its degrading...or that its bad to be involved. I just don't think we should be forced to be involved. I would feel the same if the NCAA was trying to force us to leave the playoffs to play in the game. Just because its "US" trying to force us, it makes no difference. I don't believe that having options is having cake and eating it to. I think having more HBCUs playing in the post season is a good thing. some would be in the playoffs...some would be in the HBCU bowl. I think that's a good thing....

Ya'll always have the option of leaving the MEAC.

So let me see if I got this right. You're against playing in the alleged Legacy bowl because it in your opinion negates us from playing against what you perceive as the best, segregate us and you don't feel it's really our bowl because a white own corporation is backing it.

But if Oprah or Tyler Perry was putting up the money, you would consider it ours and wouldn't see it as being segregated.

But since that isn't the case you'd rather go participate in a playoff backed by a different white own corporation and help send you school further in debt.

Got ya!

you are right. and I believe that if our president doesn't support leaving the playoffs (which he doesn't) and our coaches don't support it (which they do not) and the conference goes forward with it anyway, then SCSU will look to leave. I believe, from what I am told from A&T folks in the know, that they will as well.

now, that's not saying SCSU would leave immediately. But if this passes, I'll give it 2-3 years. enough to get our financial house back in order, and get into compliance with what the Big South wants from prospective new members. then an invite will be given....and we will accept.

the part about it being OUR game was just in response to tigerprides comment. you will see in my response that I said ti wouldn't matter who paid for the game, I would still want to have the choice. If Oprah or someone did fund it, it would still prevent us from playing for the title we want,.....but then in my opinion it would be OUR game.....funded by black folk for black schools....

and for the final time. ....... SCSU is in debt.....but the playoffs isn't why. nor would the HBCU bowl be the way out of it.

and if you really want to talk about fiscal responsibility, then we would leave the MEAC regardless of what they do. SCSU has had a study done that clearly shows that joining the MEAC would save us 200- 400K in travel expense alone. so if its all about getting our of debt, then SCSU would never have a chance to be in the game. because we would be in the Big South, and then the MEAC could play in whatever game they want.

I don't know much about SCSU's fanbase, but would they support this move as well?

Trust me....our fans love our team. they travel when we play furman....coastal...whoever it is. as long as we throw an HBCU or 2 in as non conference games, our fan base support SCSU....they come to see SCSU....not who we play against....

They don't even support the playoff games he's so desperately want to stay in. Like all school fan base, they support what they're familiar with.

So in other words, you'll become another TNSU, depending on the very schools you don't want to be affiliated with.

SCSU vs Furman at home 9,613 (one of those great teams you need p play to get better recruits)

Your stadium capacity reports 22,000

no game at SCSU will ever be well attended the Saturday after thanksgiving. but that's not even important.

no matter what flaws you find about it, its what SCSU chooses. its not what you would choose. you have that right to choose. So do we.

if the MEAC passes the vote, we have a decision to make about our future.

if they don't, then I guess the MEAC as a whole doesn't agree with the SWAC on the game.

We'll see what happens
