Show us that quote

dude...you know that nobody said those actual words...

but yalls main argument for the MEAC playing in this game is "yall never win in the playoffs.
" and "the playoffs doesn't make any money"

to say "yall never win in the playoffs" implies that "since you cant win in the playoffs, why continue to play in it.

to say "the playoffs doesn't make any money" implies that this game would make more money...and it might. There is no argument there.

which is again....why I say have the game.....AND the playoffs...having one doesn't mean you cant have the other

Waiting.....

I guess you want to see Alcorn's financial numbers too. Put it like this, it's not a pretty sight. You would have to sell a whole lot of nookie just to break even. :emlaugh:

I wouldn't even dignify his comments. He is an Alcorn "knock off." They don't claim him because he is not the real thing other than attention whoring. :emlaugh: You do realize they wont even let him in their forum. He is in the same postion as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer was in. Unfortunately, unlike Rudolph, he is still waiting on Santa Clause. :emlaugh:

My reliable source works in the office of Jenkins agent and was in the negotiations. I don't make up stuff
She wrote the contract that Jenkins signed. But you know, i don't knwo what I'm talking about.

I'll leave it at this. Let's see if the vote passes The MEAC presidents. And if so, what the fallout is.

Yeah, sure buddy. Leave some cookies and cocoa on the table for Santa Clause  :emlaugh:

Those numbers sure didn't affect the product on the field. Just admit that SU is scared of SWAC Expansion because it will make you work harder and reel in influence. Competition breeds improvement.

The numbers might not affect the product on the field for now, but if y'all continue on the route y'all are going, y'all just might be Morris Brown Number 2.

Do you blame the folks from Alcorn for not claiming him??? Would you claim a person who's only solution for solving the financial crisis at HBCUs is by selling nookie. Imagine him turning in a proposal to Alcorn's president on how nookie can make a profit for the university. :emlaugh:

If the MEAC teams want to play in the playoffs against the rest of America..I have no problem with that for all this talk about attendance, money and exposure it has done nothing in terms of advancement for the SWAC provide numbers if I am wrong.

Well I'll say this and I don't have the numbers right at hand, but we all have witness most of what I'm about to say.

The meac posters have always contend that by playing in the playoffs, they would get better/more exposure, better facilities, better recruiting and more tv time.

I've asked them consistently to show me where after 3 1/2 decades of participating in the playoffs, it has gotten them any of what they expected.

I'm still waiting for an answer or the numbers to support their beliefs.

In the meantime the SWAC has experience a slow and solid resurgence of its old self.

Several schools have had upgrades, getting better recruits, more air time, a growth in the SCG and the Bayou Classic has taken back it's right place as the Grand daddy of all classic.

It's not simply an implication, it's a fact. The playoffs don't make money. Traditional playoff powers such as Montana, Montana State and just recently Towson have admitted as much. This game WILL pay. Thus, the participants (as well as the conferences) WILL make money.

Why is it that we want to devalue the very things that make us culturally unique simply because it is not accepted by the mainstream? For those that are against this move, it appears to be based simply on race and the plea for acceptance; completely ignoring the financial ramification that are involved.

Contrary to what some of you think, there isn't a (mainstream) collegiate conference or athletic program that isn't doing what's in their best interest. And for all intents and purposes, they are "segregating" themselves whenever and wherever possible for the money.

The IVY League has segregated itself from the playoffs, but they are not complaining.

The BCS conferences (when the BCS was still functioning) segregated themselves from the NCAA - making millions - and we ALL sat right there in front of our TV sets taking it all in. There are still people who think that Florida State was crowed national champions by the NCAA...and that simply isn't true. The NCAA doesn't even OFFICIALLY recognize Florida State as the national champions. And do you see the members of the Pac-12, SEC, BIG, Big 12 and ACC complaining about being segregated? Hell no.

We've even read Southland Conference coaches say they wish they could produce a conference championship game, but they know they can't.

Ultimately, the ADs and conference commissioners of these programs are responsible for one thing...making money. So why in the hell do any of you MEAC folk have a problem with your ADs and commissioners trying to make money for your programs especially when it is well documented that they are on hard times?

Respectfully, I ask, what am I missing?

Blue, you know if you make a wrong turn and end up going down the wrong path, soon or later you'll eventually turn around and go back to the point where you made the wrong turn so that you can get back on the right path. Somehow MEAC folks would rather jump to another wrong path without even thinking about getting back on the right path to success.

I respect your opinions. and you make good points.

you mention the ivy league schools sepreating themselves. you are right. they are doing what is best for them in their determination.

and you are right. Our conference leadership has come up with an idea that he feels will make some money. and maybe it will.

again....nowhere have you seen me say the game shouldn't happen. I believe that it should.

just not by forcing the meac to give up the autobid.

you mention conferences doing what is in their best interest. You may be right. I, and most SCSU fans, don't feel that what the SWAC feels is in their best interest, is in our best interest. That's all.

The SWAC doesn't feel the playoffs are in its best interest. so they forgo the autobid to instead play a conference championship. no problem.

The SWAC, or apparently most of its presidents feels that the HBCU title game would be the best route. cool.....they have a right to their opinion.

So far, this game hasn't happened because the meac hasn't voted in support of it. So up until now, the MEAC conference hasn't felt that its whats best. Apparently, the commissioner may have, or be close to having enough votes. and lets assume he does, there is still asignifigant number of schools who don't agree.

so assuming that SCSU is one of the schools that doesn't agree, and assuming despite this, the vote passes, then SCSU will explore other options. Because that's what SCSU feels is in its best interest. So why is that wrong?

I have never said the game is a bad idea. just forcing the champ to play in it. Everyone should do what is in their best interest. But HBCUs are not one entity. There are dozens of them, each with their own set of criteria of whats important to them or in their best interest. One size doesn't always fit all.

So for the schools that feel this game is in their best interest, God bless them. But my question to you Ken is, why is it that schools that do not agree are criticized, or accused of trying to satify white people. We just don't agree. And that should be okay. We don't all have to agree all of the time.

Again, the solution to this problem is a simple one. Play the best of fcs during the regular season and beat them. If bama state had beaten sam houston then they could sit back and say, "hey we're a top four program. If jsu plays and beats ndsu the swac can talk all the noise they want and the playoffs become irrelevant because everyone will know the best teams aren't there because of money and they will change to get the swac to participate. But it starts with scheduling them, then beating them. Half the time we're too scared to schedule them, hiding behind excuses about who you dont want to see play, when the truth is no one wants to see your sorry team. Alcorn is as guilty as the next, hqving not scheduled anyone good since jmu tore us up.

Put it like this, I've lived in MEAC territory (Virginia) and one thing for sure that I have learned about the individuals who attended MEAC schools, they have a very interesting and imaginative way of doing financial calculations.

in the scenario that I describe, this year, Morgan would have gone to the playoffs, and SCSU, or BCU maybe would have played the SWAC champ in whatever this game would be called.

why that bad?

Florida State won the ACC this year. and they are in the playoff hunt for the title. But if they were not, then they would have gone to a regular bowl, whichever one that was. Now, that bowl has to take the next best ACC team, since Florida State isn't available. and they will do that and move one.

why cant this HBCU bowl take the next best team, and move on in the same way?

BraveHeart, leave these discussions to the adults.

So answer me this. If that's true, than why is it that three of the top five attended Heritage bowl SCSTU was a part of?

Oh and what is your schools best interest as you see it?

the answer to your first question, about attendance, is because our fans travel well, especially to Atlanta.

and the 2nd...

in MY OPINION, it is in our best interest to play for the chance for a NCAA title. I have spoken with our coaches, specifically our recruiting coordinator who I know well, and he has said many times, that there are many of our higher rated kids, who would not come to SCSU if they didn't have a shot at the playoffs. so of you guys don't think that matters. it does to some kids. NOt all of them...but some of them.

how much it matters, and to whom it matters is always up for debate. But when our coaches tell me that it matters, I trust their opinions.

going back to why some of the HB games were highly attended when we were in it, ill say AGAIN....Im not against the game. AGAIN.....I thnk think the conference champ should have the option. If the champ wants to play for the HBCU title...so be it...if not, the next best team plays.....I still don't see why that's not feasible.

now, as soon as I press "create post" about 10 different people will come in here and say "the playoffs don't matter and the kids don't care"

Im telling you that our coaches, specifically our recrutiting coordinator are puling their hair out hoping this don't happen. and that's not what I think. myself, Pitbull, Almighty, Toolive, and a few other long time SCSU posters know them well. and if you knew who I was, you would know why I know them well and how much access I have to them.

They do not want to be FORCED into this game. They want the OPTION to go to the playoffs....now, if they don't win the cinference and are not invited to the playoffs, they would be more than happy to play in it. BUt the coaches, and the kids they recruit, want the choice.

its that simple. its not about the game. its about not having a choice.

Thanks!

Wow.....we don't want to play in the separate but equal bowl, but somehow WE trying to make the man happy? That would make sense if it wasn't the white man funding the game you want do bad.

Sounds like some pouting because the MEAC don't wanna play with you. But that's none of my business....

I really don't care if we have this game or not. It's just gonna be a plus 1 for us. As long as we keep the SCG, im good!

and lets be clear. if this happens, and SCSU is forced into this game, I wont like it....at all...but I will be at the game...because I love SCSU and support them. That is why the games were highly attended. Regardless of all the political nonsense, we love our team...which is why we are always ranked pretty high in home attendance, and why we have one of the higher numbers in travel attendance. because I don't agree with being forced into the game don't mean I wont support my team.

Because WE are better than the 1-AA playoffs just like the 1-A playoffs is better than a consolation bowl. How about you send your BEST to Heritage Bowl and your #2 team to the playoffs. You don't give someone else your best. You keep that for yourself. That is why you look at the SEC and ACC now and see all of our children playing for them instead of us.

This might be MY UTOPIA but the way I see this is that we maximize this "Heritage Bowl", get 50-60K in the Georgia Dome, increase the payout and eventually start beating these playoff teams in the regular season. Make them envy what WE have for a change. Can we do that or nah?
