Rod Broadway, Doug Williams: For better or for worse





Perhaps TD1908 has a decent memory. Maybe she remembers that Doug won 3 consecutive SWAC titles. All of this Bway nutt swinging is just too much for me. You neegros are proof that the children of Israel were black. Doug took you to the promise land 3 times in a row....had you at the top of the BCF world, even the FCS world...this guy rained matter from heaven for Gram and you are ready to turn your back on him already. What kind of people are you?

Bway didnt do any more than Comegy or AJones. He sat on his lazy ass and didnt recruit....Walker and Warren were Spears recruits. Who else did he recruit.....NOBODY. I tell you what, when Doug turns this thing around I dont want to see none of yall, especially SOG, say a damn thing about cheering for Grambling.

Doug will easily be able to out recruit Stump. Stump has one year left on his contract and can't even recruit the good Baton Rouge kids to go to Southern. Kids know this. In regards to recruiting, I would say ... 1. Doug, 2. Northern, 3. Spears, 4. Stump. I would agree that the APR thing has changed the game for everybody.

Can those kids in BR that you say Stump can't recruit even become eligible. And who made BR the mecca of football talent. LOL. If those coaches need only those kids from there to win, then none of them will win anything. You take the best kids available no matter where they are from. Pete didn't get many BR kids either. After that first group with Northern, Randall, Landry and others left. Pete rarely got any of those BR kids and still won. Hell he didn't recruit the ones he inherited whom I just named. Kimble and Casem did. Aint nothing new for SU. If you count on the hometown kids to save your program then you are in trouble.

BR got talent, but it aint the only fertile recruiting ground in the state.

You know damn well....because you used to say it on here that all Doug did was recruit 40 players and hope 10-15 show up and stay the course to qualify. Yall used to rake Doug recruiting tactics over the coals back then. Now you want to crown him as the man. Yeah right. He did win and he did have talent. But all that was under different rules of engagement.

Let's see if he can adjust to the way the game is now. You are talking back to 02 time frame. This is 2011. That's a long time to not be coaching and recruiting.

I see kids not even get playing time at SU and GSU now that PV turned down during the recruiting process.....people don't realize that has been the major reason why the West has become balanced...now, even the transfers from those schools rather go JUCO than come to the SWAC

:lol: the majority of the BR players are non qualifiers. Spears sure loaded up on them. We will see how that works out.
 



Grambling was on Greg Timmons from UT...the old days he comes but now they see the Cam Newton effect and rather go JUCO for 1 year to get a D-1 shot again than come down

Look at where Comegy is now thanks to taking in transfers...now, coaches have the "develop" athletes and that takes a special person...Broadway was good at it, Frazier was good, AJ Jones has done it....
 
Whether you get talent or not... you have to coach them as players and people. That's why Eddie Rob, WG Gordon, and Casem won. Yeah they got talented athletes, but they molded them to fit into the program or they were shown the door. Can you do that now and still win? Yep... because you don't just recruit talent, yo also recruit character. Even the "wild ones" you take because of talent either get in line like the other kids or they fall by the wayside. B'way passed on some kids and folks got upset...but he didn't want "drama" because he was a demanding coach. Doug is a demanding coach... might have not realized the sense of urgency and the rigors of transitioning and making these kids buy into his way of doing things. He and Stump got hit with the same reality that lots of coaches from FBS programs and NFL teams get hit with... you have to develop you talent cuz it aint in abundance like other places. AND you have to tailor your game around them and what they do best. The only difference in Doug and B'way is their approach to things... both have proven to be successful. Doug just had a hiccup at the start of this season.

Thats all Im saying....Lets see. Give the guy a damn chance. Its not like he doesnt have a winning pedigree. he is dealing with Bways mess. Ive been telling yall for 3 years that Bway wasnt recruiting and as soon as all over Spears players left you get what you have now. I just cant believe you Gram folks have fallen apart after ONE DAMN MONTH.

Hello! I just got back to the board, spent the day and night at the hospital with my daughter, who's trying to have a baby too early. Praise the Lord, everything's all right now.

Anywho, GR expressed my sentiments perfectly! ALLLLL of what he said up there ^^^^ is the complete truth. The only thing I want to add to it is this, and I've said it before, you will not find TD1908 slamming NO Gramblinite in the public eye. Now at the house, that's a different story. And do know this: whether it was Doug, Lee Fobbs, Albert Lewis, Andre Robinson, Eddie Robinson, Jr.,.....any GMAN would have my support. They all had the good sense, like me, to matriculate to Grambling State University. However, after a REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME, (not one f-ing season), if they didn't win, then it's time to make a change. C'est la vie!
