Report: Michigan contacted LSU's Miles after he signed extension

Why cant folks just accept the fact that the Big 10 sucks now? The faster you admit it the easier it'll be to get past.

Everybody knows Schiano wants the Penn State job. Hell he turned down the U of Miami last year. So it aint about Michigan. Folks should not even talk to Schiano because he is waiting for Joe Pa to be gone. In the meantime he can be king at Rutgers.

Exactly, and why would he come to Michigan and have all sorts of pressure, when he'll be king at Rutgers if he can win 8 games a year. And you're right, we should go after Kelly at Cincy, he's won everywhere he's been, and has ties to the state. But alas he's not a candidate.

We may or may not end up with Miles, but Michigan has gone about this the wrong way. Logically, unless it's a dream job, going from making 3 million a year at LSU to 3 million a year at Michigan is a lateral move. It's not like it was 20 years ago when there were only a handful of elite programs. Now, as far as pay and prestige, there isn't much difference between the top 30 or 40 programs. Just look at how Alabama was turned down by Rich Rodriguez last year, or even how Tressel was Ohio State's 3rd or 4th choice, successful coaches aren't leaving one big time program to go to another. The right route to go is to find a successful and hungry coach on the mid-major or even FCS level, but Michigan's arrogance won't allow for that.

Why not hire Appalacian State coach?

Nah Styles. They got some players. But they slipped overall. Michigan was not getting those Leroy Hoard's, Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard, Anthony Thomas cats. Manningham is good. Hart was too. Henne was overated in my book and the Michigan Qbs have been subpar for awhile now since that kid went to play baseball that tried to comeback to the NFL.

Michigan used to get cats like Mecury Hayes from Houston and others. They are not doing that. Go look at their roster. McGuffie is a player. We'll see what the white boy will do in Ann Arbor. Also remember a couple of recruits have not stayed there and left for whatever reason. Michigan should always have a top recruiting class from not only the kids in Michigan and surrounding areas, but kids from all over like they used to. They used to load up on Texas. Maybe Mack Brown shut all that down.

Check this out, of the 20 recruits UM signed last year only 5 are from the state of Michigan, 4 from CA, 3 from TX and the rest are from other states. Same thing with next years class. So JR, what are you really trying to say??? UM can still go any where and get recruits. They are doing it. Remember this name, Donnovan Warren. He was the top DB in the state of CA last year.

. . . is he really THE ONE to return Michigan to prominence, and knock Jim Tressel off the Big Ten throne?

I haven't read all of the responses, but has anyone answered this question yet? Let's just say Miles does go to Michigan - is that gonna change anything in the Big Ten?

And if Miles does bolt, nobody is gonna be more ticked off than Bo Pelini. I'm sure Pelini would much rather have stayed in Baton Rouge and took over the reigns at LSU than move to Nebraska and try to clean up Callahan's mess.

Miles: 'I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU'

Les Miles: I'm Not A Candidate

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU football coach Les Miles, responding to a published report that he had talked with Michigan officials last week, said Tuesday he is not a candidate for the Wolverines' vacant head coaching position.

The Detroit Free Press had reported that Miles spoke Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and university president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call.

In a statement released by LSU, Miles said that was true. But he also clarified that the conversation was not about him.

"I had a conversation with Michigan last week that covered a wide range of topics. I was doing nothing more than helping them with their search for a football coach, just as any loyal alumnus might do. It was nothing more than that," Miles said.

Les Miles says he spoke with officials at Michigan -- but only to advise his alma mater on its continuing search for a coach.

"I'm not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job. I was only assisting them in their search for a coach," he added. "I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It's time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach.

"I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU next season."

Like I said before, ESPN is keeping this Miles/UM thing in the news. They spent about 6 minutes at the begining of Sports Center talking about it. Every time they release an article Les Miles has to come right back and respond to it. I bet Les Miles hates ESPN.

LSU wouldn't have hired Bo Pelini as the head coach.

If the Big Ten sucks and the SEC is the toughest conference in the national, why wouldn't Miles go to Michigan? I mean, he only would have to compete with 2 teams every year instead of 7-8 teams in the "tough SEC."

Wouldn't the road to the national championship game be a little easier in the Big Ten than the SEC? Yes, the SEC is probably the best conference in the national, but coaches are going to avoid those schools like the plague down the road because it is harder to win in that conference than anywhere else. Sure, you might have the best players and best facilities, but the majority of SEC teams do as well. It's like playing in the American League.

Because he wants to coach in a conference with competition maybe.

Well, it was a task for him to make the title game this year. LSU needed a lot of help to get to the Sugar Bowl. Ohio State lost one game and needed help as well, but they were not severely tested like LSU was in the SEC. I

f I were Miles I would take the job because it would not be difficult to recruit in the Big Ten, you only have to deal with Ohio St. and you don't have that tough schedule to deal with.

At LSU every game is like playing against Ohio St. At Michigan, you only have to play OSU once a year.

I know you are a knowledgeable football observer, but I rather get the easiest road to the title game as possible than deal with minefields for 8-9 weeks.

Co-Sign. When LSU folks turn on him and throw him to the wolves when he don't produce year in and year out.....he gone wish he had went down that easy road to Michigan.

The SEC West is going to be a recruit mofo right now. Nutt, Saban, Petrino, Croom and Miles. That is just the West.

Man please, what 7-8 teams??? Outside of LSU, Florida, and Georgia, everyone else is mediocre at best. Look how horrible Tenn. was and they made it to the SEC championship game. Arkansas made it last year and look at that team. They had one player. And what coach would avoid coaching in the SEC?

Styles, I'm trying to make the Big Ten look like an attractive place to coach, man. We both know people don't respect the conference already. I'm just explaining how it is much easier to win in the Big Ten.

Cool. Although I disagree.

Styles, if I remember my history correctly Florida State and Miami declined invitations to join the SEC way back before joining the Big East and ACC respectively. I believe (and probably everyone else) that had they joined, they probably wouldn't have been as successful.

Also, co-signing what kendrick had said earlier

Dude please Tenn would have kicked Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn St to sleep this year. You can say what you want but Michigan got worked by 1-AA school...... talk about mediocre :retard: Having two 1,000 yard rushers is not having one player. Arkansas has some of the best OL in addition to the best player in college football and another 1,000 yard rusher coming off the bench. Come on man do you even follow football?? Michigan, Penn St, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan St, Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, and Minnesota all suck.

there's a reason Big 10 football is shown at 11:30 a.m. on ESPN on Saturdays...get the boring crap out the way

like they said...the Big 10 is two schools and a third team (usually Wisconsin but Illinois in 2007) who'll be competitive and drive teams nuts year-in and year out...

Michigan State is up-and-down, Northwestern is the typical play tough private school but not consistent winner, Purdue wins more but can't get over the hump, Minnesota is a city school who's resorting to recruiting everywhere just to be competitive even though their turnover rate sucks...Iowa is good with the right personnel every 10 years along with Penn state and Indiana

most of those schools put basketball ahead of football anyway...way more easier than the SEC where EVERY SCHOOL has dedicated unlimited resources towards football
