Report: Michigan contacted LSU's Miles after he signed extension

Dr. Phreeze

It is I...Yes it is...
Michigan's pursuit of LSU coach Les Miles is apparently not over -- despite the fact that Miles signed a contract extension with LSU last week.

Miles spoke Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and Michigan university president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday.

Miles signed his contract extension at LSU on Thursday.

Michigan, which has yet to find a successor for the retired Lloyd Carr, had previously obtained permission from LSU to contact Miles about its coaching vacancy, on the condition that it was after the Dec. 1 Southeastern Conference championship game. The Tigers will play Ohio State in the Allstate BCS Championship Game on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

Miles' contract extension at LSU reportedly still contains a $1.25 million buyout he must pay if he leaves Baton Rouge for Ann Arbor. Miles played for Bo Schembechler at Michigan and twice was part of his coaching staff.

Michigan associate athletic director Bruce Madej, said the university is not commenting on the coaching search, and Miles' agent, George Bass, declined comment, the newspaper reported.

ESPN is keeping this story in the head lines. It's Tuesday and they reporting what happened last week.

Miles has done a great job with Saban's recruits (17 out of 22 starters recruited by Saban), and he was also successful at Oklahoma State before moving on to LSU. But is he really THE ONE to return Michigan to prominence, and knock Jim Tressel off the Big Ten throne?

I'm not so sure.

Nobody wants to coach at Michigan. That's obvious.

The problem is that they put all their eggs in the Les Miles basket and he is playing them in my opinion. He better win at LSU or he will be out on the street looking for a job. Folks are paying attention on how he is handling this. He needs to just tell Michigan to stop calling and I am not interested. Obviously he is still listening.

And for those who keep harping over the 1.25 million dollar buyout. That is no money for any of these BCS programs. Some rich booster will pay it out if Les had wanted to leave. That buyout aint no concern to Michigan or they would have never even tried to talk to Les.

Michigan should just cut their ties with Miles and let him have LSU. When he aint winning regularly in a few years he gone wish he had not turned down his alma mater. Especially the way he is doing it. Talk about burning some bridges. I am sure his family members back in Michigan are getting all kind of flak from the Michigan faithful.

If Michigan was smart they would call one of those 1-AA hot coaches or go ahead and interview Brian Kelly of Cincy even though that dude won with Dantonio players. They also should call Steve Marrucci. He is from the state. I think UCLA is going to call him for an interview. Mooch would be good for Michigan I believe. Don't know why they aint approached him yet. I think he would be better than Miles. Oh well. This soap opera is funny to me.

They tried to get Greg Schiano (Rutgers coach) and he said thanks but no thanks. That was the ultimate slap in the face. :lmao::lmao:

Miles will be fine at LSU because they become a powerhouse. All of these kids in Louisiana wanna go there and they have enough talent to last for quite a while. If Miles were to go to Michigan they'd still lose to Ohio St every year and they'd still get crushed in Bowl games.

Greg Schiano has the Penn State job lined up, it wouldn't have made since to go to UM. He did the right thing. Penn State is his dream job.

Please, check your history before you make comments like that.

Nobody they've talked to yet wants to.

Exactly. The bottom line sadly is money. Michigan don't wanna pay a coach 3 mil. Another thing is that the job isn't as alluring as it once was. People know now that other schools can compete and out recruit Michigan now.

Since 2000 Michigan has beat Ohio St twice. :retard:

Everybody knows Schiano wants the Penn State job. Hell he turned down the U of Miami last year. So it aint about Michigan. Folks should not even talk to Schiano because he is waiting for Joe Pa to be gone. In the meantime he can be king at Rutgers.

That's a cop out. If you can coach and recruit, you can win at Michigan.

Ohio State has the number 1 OL in the state of Florida coming next year. They have some other kids from the South coming. If they beat LSU, all hell will break loose. Michigan just got lazy. Not every kid wants to play in the SEC or other conferences. They just want to play and win titles. Michigan will afford them that. If Pete Carroll was at Michigan he would be whooping arse. Tom Brady went to Michigan and he was from San Fran. Lloyd Carr and his staff just slipped up is all and got outrecruited basically by not continuing to pound the streets. You can't just rest on your laurels no matter what school you are at. These kids make you come approach them and sell them your program.

Miles is about to find out it aint as easy as he thinks either by staying in Baton Rouge. It would have been much easier at Michigan. Don't know why yall can't see that. Just because every kid in La wants to go LSU will not make them a power every year. Ga, Florida, ALabama will be doing the same thing. Even ole Saban is feeling nervous now.

No JR, you are totally wrong on this one. UM got the top QB out of Texas last year (Ryan Mallard). They also got one of the top RBs out Texas coming next year (Sam Mcduffie). Mike Hart is from NY. Mario Manningham is from Ohio. UM has never had a problem with recruiting, it's coaching.

The Big 10 ain't what it was. This year the Big 10 will take 2 big hits. Ohio St will lose to LSU and Michigan will get crushed by Florida. You're right Pete Carroll would be whooping arse at Michigan, LSU, Florida, ect but there aren't many Pete Carroll's out there. Michigan hasn't had a top 5 recruiting class since 2004 and Ohio State since 2002. The playing field is even. Next year Ohio St has to go to Cali to play USC early in the season and USC will walk all over them. Mark my words.

Nah Styles. They got some players. But they slipped overall. Michigan was not getting those Leroy Hoard's, Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard, Anthony Thomas cats. Manningham is good. Hart was too. Henne was overated in my book and the Michigan Qbs have been subpar for awhile now since that kid went to play baseball that tried to comeback to the NFL.

Michigan used to get cats like Mecury Hayes from Houston and others. They are not doing that. Go look at their roster. McGuffie is a player. We'll see what the white boy will do in Ann Arbor. Also remember a couple of recruits have not stayed there and left for whatever reason. Michigan should always have a top recruiting class from not only the kids in Michigan and surrounding areas, but kids from all over like they used to. They used to load up on Texas. Maybe Mack Brown shut all that down.

Don't be shocked if Michigan beats Florida. Florida aint all that this year. LSU better come with their A game. I am telling you know.........those Ohio State kids going to come to play with mean intentions after all this being sad rhetoric. Just watch what I tell ya. LSU better not be overconfident or it will get ugly. Tressel has beaten a Miles led team before. This aint a Saban coached LSU team.

BTW, Ohio State is already about to have a top 5 recruiting class. If we get Terrelle Pryor it is all over. Go check out Rivals top 100 and see how many OSU has already verbally committed. Kids know OSU will be in the running every year and have better facilities than pretty much everybody. Hell even the NFL Buckeyes come back to Columbus to train because their facilities aint as good in the NFL. LOL.
