I'm glad for Warren Moon to get in on the first ballot and not have to wait a few years.

I'm glad Warren made it, hopefully that opens the door for other black quarterbacks in the future to get to the hall. I think Michael Irvin should have made it also. How do u take Troy Aikman and not take Michael Irvin???

Even though voters are not supposed to look at off the field issues, you knew with the loaded class they had this year that his chances this year was not looking good.

Troy Aikman and Reggie White were 2 guaranteed slots. Might as well say three with Madden...

I honestly thought that Warren Moon would have more
trouble getting in than Irvin...

Now if he doesnt get in next year... I dont know what to say...

Aikman, Wright get Hall call

Michael Irvin falls short for second time

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

DETROIT – Troy Aikman and Rayfield Wright never played together during their careers with the Cowboys, but they will soon be teammates.

On Saturday, Aikman and Wright were selected for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, becoming the sixth and seventh players in team history to earn the sport’s highest honor.

For the second straight year, Michael Irvin, the Cowboys’ all-time leading receiver, did not make the final cut and will likely be on the ballot again in 2007.

The ceremony will take place in Canton, Ohio, the weekend of Aug. 5-6.

Aikman thanked many of his former teammates and coaches, including his coach at UCLA, Terry Donahue, and Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

.....

Two years ago, Wright made it to the final six of the voting process, along with former teammate Bob Hayes, and did not get in. Again a Veterans Committee candidate this year, Wright finally took the place so many of his former teammates, such as Staubach and Calvin Hill and opponents, such as Deacon Jones and Jack Youngblood, felt he had earned.

Wright is the only offensive tackle to play in five Super Bowls, and he was selected to six Pro Bowls and was a four-time All-NFL selection. He helped clear the way for the first five 1,000-yard rushers in franchise history.

Somewhat easing his pain from the earlier Hall of Fame snub, Wright was inducted into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor in 2004.

Well with 6 maximum spots, you can pretty much say that Aikman, White, Madden, and even Moon were shoe-ins. Carson should have been in a while ago, but with the emotional aspect that he's going through, he was probably a lock as well. So that's a lot of players for one last spot. In addition to Irvin, Derrick Thomas, Thurman Thomas, Art Monk (who has more career receptions, yards, and TDs than Irvin), just to name a few, all fell short of election.

Congratulations to all.I dream that some of our great ones should get in.
But ?
Art Monk, Lester Hayes, Bob Hayes, Doug, Claude Humphery, etc.

:lmao:

not to be funny.........but those people are going to drive Michael Irvin to drugs.........again  :emlaugh:

I do agree with Art Monk, Richard Dent, Bob Hayes, Claude Humprhey, Thruman Thomas, Derrick Thomas, Lester Hayes, Doug Williams, Willie Gallimore, Ken Stabler, Cliff Branch, L.C. Greenwood, Donnie Shell, Drew Pearson, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Cliff Harris, Charlie Waters, Russ Grimm, Joe Jacoby should all be in the hall. Michael Irvin will get in. It would be a major if you let Michael Irvin in the Hall of Fame before Art Monk who is in the top 5 of catches all time. :lecture:

I believe Doug Williams should be in the HOF by now......

He won't be in there anytime soon, not with the backlog of players that did more in their CAREERS instead of one Super Bowl. Hell, Timmy Smith rushed for 204 yards in the SB, and he's not going to be in the hall. Dallas' Larry Brown is no way near the Super Bowl, nor is Dexter Jackson of the Bucs.

Heck, if you look at careers..you can put Randall Cunningham ahead of Doug on the "next black QB to be enshrined list."

I really didnt think Troy Aikman would get in on the first ballot. His numbers was that impressive.

I 'm glad Warren made it too !! Hopefully, it would open the door for Heywood Jeffires. How can you open the door for Warren and not one of his top recievers. The only difference I can see is there are no Super Bowl rings for the Oliers

Haywood Jeffries career stats:

rec. yds ypc TD
535 6334 11.8 50

He went over 1000 yards twice, two 90 plus catch seasons, three Pro Bowls, three seasons top ten in receptions. All in all, his stats don't blow you away, especially for a player in a run-and-shoot offense.

Current/recently retired players that more than likely you'll see in the Hall..

QBs: Brett Farve, Steve McNair, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning
RBs: Bettis, Curtis Martin
WRs: Jimmy Smith, Marvin Harrison, TO*, Randy Moss* (if their mouths/actions didn't cost them)
TEs: Tony Gonzalez
DLs: Michael Strahan, Simeon Rice
LBs: Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks
DBs: Aeneas Williams, Deion Sanders, Ty Law

You can add Marshall Faulk to the list at RB. I'm not sure McNair is there yet. I think he needs 2-3 more seasons like the strech he had between 2001-2003.

Jerry Rice and Tim Brown should be heading of the list of retired and current players who are headed to the HOF. Ray Guy should have been in a long time ago.

LOL @ the Haywood Jefferies post.
He is no where near a HOF WR. Just go check the stats of all who are in. Hell even Swann and Stallworth benefitted like Aikman by winning Super Bowls. Haywood couldn't get to the Super Bowl. Warren Moon had superior Qb stats like Dan Fouts so he was a lock in my opinion.

Now the next WRs in should be Art Monk before Irvin. Mike will get in but he will face competition at WR soon with Cris Carter who is the number 2 WR of all time stat wise behind Jerry Rice. Then you have Tim Brown. Irvin may get the nod before Tim because he has the rings to go with his career and Tim just has numbers.

Doug will have a hard time. He may get in later on. McNair needs 3 good seasons with 3000 yards or more and maybe a SB win to help. Aneas Williams is going to get in. He has the interceptions and Pro Bowls. Jimmy Smith is closing in on some HOF numbers so he may get a shot. I would like to see my Callaway homeboy get a SB ring in the next year or 2 and roll out. He just had another 1000 yard season. So a ring with a big game in the SB might help him over. Strahan will get in when he retires. So we do have some SWAC players that will get in down the road.

Add Hines Ward to the modern day list of players who will make it to the hall. I would like to see Derrick Brooks make it also along with Everson Walls, Cliff Harris, Lester Hayes.

Just imagine if Sterling Sharpe stayed healthy for the rest of his career. :smh:
He would have been in the top 5. His brother is a lock for the HOF.
