Pimp C, real name Chad Butler -- and one half of the rap duo UGK, was found dead in a hotel room this morning. He was 33.

L.A. County Fire responded to a 911 call at the Mondrian Hotel, located on trendy Sunset Strip in Hollywood. They arrived to his sixth floor hotel room to find him dead in bed.

UGK is best known for appearing on the Jay-Z track "Big Pimpin'" in 2000, and more recently with Outkast on the song "International Player's Anthem (I Choose You)."

I'm sorry to hear this about Pimp C. Who in the heck wrote the above article? What do they mean UGK is best known for appearing on a Jay-Z track??? UGK was putting out hits before Jay Z was even heard of.

Still UGK was only regionally known until Big Pimpin came out. Bun B even had a whole single outlining that.

Man I remember arguing with YOU talkin about Texas ain't in the South because we don't walk and talk like folk from Miss. and Bama.... :lol:

Anyway RIP....its hurts to see the man go just when I thought the group would finally be able to get on track.

Team, I was listening to XM Satellite Radio this evening and Scarface was on there talking about some drink or drug that most of the Houston rappers have died from called 'Lean'. He mentioned that he knew several guys that had died from drinking that stuff. I think he believed that pimp c may have be drinking that stuff. I hope nobody killed him. This will only make the Black KKK statement even more relivant.

Only one H-Town rapper's death has been linked to "lean" that I know of......actually a dj (DJ Screw). Lean is a prescribed elixir of codine and promothesine (sp?). It can be mixed with Hennesy XO, but you can play it safe and mix it with Sprite.

As for Pimp C, he had his hands in a lot of beef. From Lil Troy in Houston and most recently with Young Jeezy. A few years ago, Jeezy had beef with ATL rapper Gucci Mane and, over a song, put a bounty on Gucci's chain. That led to Gucci being involved in a shootout in which he murdered someone in self defense. (just a thought.....)

I can't wait to see how this turns out. RIP Pimp C!!!

What region you was in? I was bumpin' UGK back in the day and have the CDs and tapes to prove it. I know for a fact that it was played all the time around AAMU while I was in school. :confused:

Alabama is in the same region at Texas... nobody in the east coast, west coast or north knew who UGK was until Big Pimpin came out.

Same thing with TI... nobody outside the south knew who he was when Im Serious came out.... same thing with Kilo, DJ Smurf, Big Oomp Records, Dj Screw... all were regional.

I can't vouch for the north, west, or east, I doubt if you can either, but UGK was well known before Jay Z. UGK put out some straight classics. Do you all remember Smoke D? He was on that "Back Front Back and Side to Side" joint. Dude ended up going to the pin for murder. He was from the Sip.
 
I am sad. I loved UKG my favorite was pocket full of stones. I got it loaded on the IPOD right now.

Anyway, UGK was hot before Jay-Z. Pocket Full of Stones Menace II Society 1993 put them out there in the Rap World. They were one of a few groups (Geto Boys) to hit the main stream from Houston.

So sometime you need to shut the fugged up if you cannot speak the fugging truth!

maybe your definition of mainstream is different from mine.... but chill out on the shut the **** ups... It aint that serious playboy
 
I'm with CJ on this one. If you knew UGK, you KNEW that they very popular in the south while they were relative unknowns elsewhere. The true UGK fan base was in the south. Very few people outside of the region knew about UGK. Even with them being on the Menace II Society Soundtrack, they were still a regional group.
They didn't really start getting national attention until they appeared on Big Pimpin' with Jay-Z. That's what got them their national buzz that folks in the south already knew about. Bun B even said on a song on his album, Trill, that he wanted to do Big Pimpin because it might finally put them on but Pimp C didn't want to it because he thought it was a "pop" record.

UGK was on in the south but they didn't really gain fame outside of the south until Big Pimpin' came out. Just because they were on a soundtrack didn't mean that they were a big time group. The album Ridin' Dirty, which is considered a classic rap album, only sold 500,000 copies. I can guarantee you that most of those numbers were in the south.

If a member of the group is saying that they didn't make it until 2000, how can you argue that?
 
You know... artists and Pimp C are people and being that he is a person he has relatives, like aunts,uncles,grandparents,nephews ,nieces and a host of cousins that loved him.They shared fun memories that we and the public does not know. The public somehow forget that artists whether they be in rap,movie or any other forms entertainment, are not just some character in a video game. They are real people with family ties that loved them just like our families love us..regardless of our cirumstances. It's real easy to hurt someone if you don't care to get to know them as a person.

I don't know... maybe Pimp C was just the stage personality for his fans; we will never know the real person behind Pimp C.. but his family does.
Anyway I will always respect those that passed on. Because it's one commonality that everyone shares on this planet and that is we did not asked to be born into this physical realm.

The local Houston NBC news station reported that the LAPD stated that "NO" fool play appeared to be involved in Pimp C's death. There were no drugs or alcohol found in his hotel room as well. They said it appears he may have died from natural causes.

I didnt know about TI until Rubberband Man. DaHill and my best friend had to put me on "IM SERIOUS". (Best track of the album to me).
