The board isn't qualified to govern OUR university and now they created a hostile relationship with the community they serve. We are not stupid and can see their judgment is flawed and they don't have the best interest of TSU at heart .... they are the stupid ones and we will fight them every step of the way until they resign.
But TSU folks (and others) always wanna bash PV about being a member of a university system vs being so called independent. You're never truly independent as a public university. The same man appointing our regents is appointing yours. 9 times out of 10, they are going to be financial supporters of the governor, Republicans, or people that are going to advance his agenda.
Gerald Smith, chairman of the TSU Foundation, an independent nonprofit that supports the university through fundraising and development efforts, said the board’s handling of the situation and Lane’s departure has been shameful. He denied the board’s claims that Lane engaged in excessive spending through the foundation. The regents’ initial notice of termination said Lane used TSU Foundation money to conceal and reimburse his own “excessive entertainment expenses.”
“The last thing our founders wanted was negative headlines for TSU,” said Smith, an alumnus who grew up two blocks from the campus. “Look at us now.”
But Smith emphasized the TSU Foundation, its volunteers and trustees will weather the storm and will work with the board.

So did Lane spend over 100k for those Rockets seats or not?Gerald Smith, chairman of the TSU Foundation, an independent nonprofit that supports the university through fundraising and development efforts, said the board’s handling of the situation and Lane’s departure has been shameful. The local media hate TSU and will still find ways to spin this negatively and post misleading headlines which they already done even after a public statement of no wrongdoing. And instead of calling him Dr. Lane which is a title he earned, they are calling him Lane?? You see what I'm talking about.
Unlike Jackson State trash ass stupid president that the JSU alumni community never wanted in the first place, you can tell Dr. Lane took his reputation seriously and would never do anything to intentionally bring embarrassment to his name or our university
I wish TxSU can become a private university. We can't trust the state of Texas to run the institution the way it needs to be run unless there's at least a democratic governor which we haven't had since forever. When Louisiana got their democratic governor SU and Grambling began to flourish again ... more funding, governor visits, campus improvements, etc. Democratic governors and control are best for HBCUs.
Well SU has a 45 million dollar STEM Complex, among other projects waiting for approval.. I will see what JBE does.. If it wasn't for blacks in Louisiana he would of not been elected..

A Warning to Anyone Thinking About Being the Next TSU President
The entire Texas Southern University board must be replaced. Immediately. All Texas Southern supporters should pressure Governor Greg Abbot to make this happen.diverseeducation.com
He really hit the nail on the head with this paragraph:
I said I was concerned, but not surprised by Lane’s ouster. I’ve watched a lot of presidents come and go. More often the cause is not retirement or incompetence, but rather the egregious acts of an egomaniacal board. It is usually the worst with politically appointed board members who see these positions as superior to the president. They often expect to be served rather than to serve the institution. In the case of HBCUs, these types of board members are literally killing the schools.
If they are replaced, they will most likely be replaced with more incompetent power hungry black folks who care nothing about TSU.
I used to watch the TSU Board meetings often ... rarely will everyone show up. And none of them seemed passionate about the university.
TSU is stifled until a Democratic governor is chosen and he/she appoints qualified board members. The best and brightest kids are not choosing TSU like I think they should mainly b/c of the instability in leadership .... PVAMU and other schools got us beat. I mentor high school kids and practically all the bright ones do not want to go to TSU ... if they go to an in-state HBCU 99% of the time it's PVAMU. The students I think are the least college ready, lacking focus, and should start at a community college seem to gravitate heavily for TSU and it hurts. TSU campus I think is start-of-the-art so we should easily attract a lot of the best Texas has to offer and i don't see it. I'm not saying we don't have very bright students on campus b/c we do and always have but I'm saying they are definitely not the majority of the student body
the academically sound black student / minority is what everyone wants and schools like UH are pulling out all the stops to keep them from coming with all this reduced tuition coupled with the community college aggressiveness.
