Pine-Bluff Folks, Who Do You Consider Your Main SWAC Rival?

Alcorn and Valley have their own little rival as well. I see what you are saying though but UAPB doesnt get hyped for Valley. That may be the least game PB thinks about lol

easy here,

MVSU would be the logical choice since the other 8 schools already have established rivalries within their respective states...........TSU-PV, GSU-SU, JSU-ALCORN, ASU-AAMU ...........UAPB-MVSU would be the one........

hmmm......
That's a thought that I hadn't "thought" of. All I need is the slightest reason, excuse to go to Memphis. LOL

I too enjoy visiting Memphis but the drive down to Pine Bluff and back is long. If you are located east of the MS River, there are only 3 crossings available, Vicksburg, Greenville, or Memphis. I can't figure out why NW MS and SE ARK are not connected by a bridge.

I went to Little Rock in April. If you want to take US 425 to Pine Bluff...just get ready to do a lot of speeding up and slowing down.
We went up 425 and were miserable.

So I suggest from Baton Rouge...take US 61 all the way to Vicksburg, hop on I-20 West and get off on US 65 in Tallullah and ride 65 all the way to Pine Bluff. 65 opens up to 4-lane highway in Lake Village.

I say that because 65 between Ferriday and Tallullah is 2-lane road of nothing with a lot of speeding-up-and-slowing-down between those little country towns.

Gate.Left.Wide.Open.

But I am going to take the high road....this time.

The way Pine Bluff whooped yall, it really didn't matter what road or dirt path you all was on. I think they have taken you alls's #2 spot in the west behind PV.

I used to work for the Arkansas Department of Labor and had to travel the state a lot. The highways in Arkansas I never liked traveling were Hwy 425 and Hwy 79; both are notorious for State Troopers, which was my reason for slowing down/speeding up.

I would say the best route from Baton Rouge to Pine Bluff is to take 61N all the way to Natchez, take the 425/84 exit to Vidalia (which is just a slight turn to the left), cross the river back into Louisiana (Vidalia and Ferriday), and take 65N all the way through Tallulah, Lake Providence, Pine Bluff. It's almost a straight path with no turns, no taking crossroads. And it's a shorter drive (for me). Once, after I took Bri back to SU, I went home through Vicksburg and took I-20 to Tallulah. It was a longer drive back to Little Rock (6 hours and 25 minutes).

If any SU alum travel to Pine Bluff or Little Rock and go through Monticello (Hwy 425), that's the long route and you have to turn to get on the highway that will take you to either city.

Sorry, Lioness. I have to agree with Journalist on this one. This is the way I would go. Slowing down and speeding up in those little towns is a pain. Though I did get a kick out of reading the populations of those little towns. I guess that was a way for me to help pass the time.

I guess you forgot the 64 - 36 beat down Pine Bluff put on yall in Jackson in 2005

Now that I think of it...yea you right. Call it the Delta classic MVSUAPB

Man US 61 is 4 lanes all the way through from here to Vicksburg. You slow down in St. Francsville, Woodville, Natchez, Port Gibson and then in Vicksburg before you get on I-20. That's like every 30-40 miles you slow down. But between that is 65 MPH.

Now compare that to US 65 between Ferriday/Vidalia going through to Tallulah...Mane there so many lil specks on the map..Plus it's a 2-lane road still and you can't get down on that road like you can on 61.

4. Lula (across the bridge from West Helena).

I don't know what it will take to get some type of rivalry built up between UAPB and Valley seeing as that they are well under 3 hours from each other. I know it's less than likely but someone suggested it on here a while back and I kind of agreed with it. If the only time our games against each other are packed is Homecoming then we could possibly move it to Memphis and make it into a classic or something.

And I agree with what someone said. 2-3 hours is a turnaround trip. We've done that a few times against Alcorn. I made the mistake one time of trying a turn around trip from Huntsville. Almost died twice in northeast Mississippi lol

Wow. The series match-up between PB and Valley are akin to Southern and JSU.

PB leads Valley, 22-21-1.

Pine Bluff vs. The Valley is a natural rivalry.

It will never be a rivalry between PB and Valley. People at Valley look forward to playing JSU and Alcorn before PB. I dont see why its that hard to understand, people in PB are not thinking about Valley like that. Thats why it has never been a consistent classic between the two....

I find that strange since the series is so close. It's like that for SU with JSU, Alcorn, and Grambling because we fight each other tooth and nail.

The problem is they both are nobodies. Who wants a rivaly with a nobody?
