Cee, Paula Dean supporters and those who frequent her restaurant are mostly white folks from up North, East, or West coast. When I was last in Savannah, I saw a bunch of US cooking in her restaurant anyway. I didn't see one white person in the kitchen. Food wasn't bad or bland at all. I think yall act like SHE is the one cooking that stuff at her place. And even looking at her recipes you can tell it is BLACK influenced. It ain't nothing white about it. LOL. Maybe some of her stuff. I already said a long time ago she was probably using recipes she got or her people got from black folks anyway (Now maybe that's a bigger issue on how she done got rich off of using recipes she has taken from other people). I never thought these was some revelation that some Southern white woman had all these recipes on her own. If people thought that. I can sell you some swamp land for millions. LOL. I have been actually sitting back waiting on some black folks to sue her about that and not some white woman suing her over spilled milk. You know as well as I do, that woman dropped the dime on Paula to serve her own purpose. She probably called us the N word too. LOL.

Bottom line is you can get bad soul food or Southern food from anybody see Slyvia's in Harlem (overated). I don't think she was trying to sell it as Soul food as much as she was saying Southern Food. Some of that stuff would never make it on the plate from Big Mama nem's kitchen. All this outcry is much to do about nothing. The folks who need to be MORE pissed is the black folks who work for her. Those are the ones who should be demanding an apology and she should be explaining herself to her employees.

LOL @ Frat. We don't support Paula Deen like talking about anyway. Don't know what the big fuss is about. I bet money most blacks were not making a pilgrimage to Savannah just to eat at Paula Deen's. Hell I even had forgotten her place was there when I was last in Savannah when we stumbled by it and we decided to see if it was any good. Just confirmed for me that Black folks cooking her food is her secret. LOL.

Jesse Jackson, Jr., said one current and two former employees told him white employees are routinely paid more than black employees and are promoted more quickly. A black man who had threatened to go to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Deen's brother told him "you don't have any civil rights here," Rainbow/PUSH said in a press release.

Rainbow/PUSH said it has "found evidence of systemic racial discrimination and harassment" by Deen and that "a family member consistently referred to a black cook as 'my little monkey.'"

Patillo, who conducted interviews in Savannah where Deen's restaurant is located, said current and former employees told him that Deen "preferred white and light-skinned blacks to work with customers" and that darker-skinned blacks were relegated to "back-of-the-house operations."

Patillo said employees have been reluctant to talk to him about their experience with Deen because they fear retaliation.

See this is what gets me about all of this. It took a white woman to bring this to light. And now that that this story has gone viral, the black employees (with the help of Rainbow/PUSH) all of a sudden want to tell their stories. A white woman was more offended by Deen and her brother's actions more than the black employees were. :shame:

For real.
The only Paula Dean restaurant in Mississippi is in Tunica at Harrah’s resort and its a buffet restaurant. Just like you said, she got a bunch of black people cooking just like most of these "southern restaurants" run by white people. I have never been there so I have never put a dime in her pocket. :lol:

But like I said, I am not going to short myself on good food just because Paula Dean was a closet bigot. It's case by case with me. I will continue to go to the Cock of the Walk for my Catfish and Greens when I get the urge just as I always have. :lol:

Your comments are very interesting SOGGY. When you (we) thought the "white woman" was black, it seemed like you were defending and rationalizing for Paula. Now you seem to want to prop this "white woman" (Jackson) up as being more offended by the comments than any black employees, just because she filed a suit. Just because I don't sue my employer doesn't mean I'm not offended and it doesn't mean I'm any less offended than someone who does. Heck, I can have less access/means/opportunity than you, I can be much more dependent on this job than you, could be many things. But just because I didn't sue, you can't discount me.

Yall talk about ole CEE a lot, but a lot of the stuff he posts is spot on.

Couple of things to clear up, because my stance on this has not changed a bit.

I said previously in this thread the follow:

I'm not saying she (Deen) shouldn't be held accountable. The lawsuit is what it is. If she is liable so be it. But I don't subscribe to the "them vs. US" theory. That is where we screw up. We are too busy trying to hold "them" to a standard that "we" are not willing to hold ourselves.

As I have said here and on FB, I'm not so much bother by Paula Deen using the N-word. For a 66 year old white woman from the south, I expect it. I also said previously...and still say now, that people change, people evolve. And just because a person (black or white) uses a racial slur; it doesn't mean the person is racist...especially when there is existing evidence that proves otherwise.

As for the comment about Cee, if you think his comments are spot on that's fine. I've never made any comments about Cee and his particular beliefs. Unlike some, I don't allow myself to get so frustrated in disagreement with another that I allow myself to simple call someone a sell out when all else fails. That is beneath me. And I that point I no longer engage.

Now, as for your argument about the black employees who didn't sue. I didn't discount anything or anyone, but one can certainly argue that those black employees who are FINALLY speaking up (after the fact) contributed to the atmosphere that Deen and her brother are being accused by not saying anything earlier. There is no way in hell I'm going to allow the word "N***a" to be used in my presence by someone of another color. But if you want to give them a pass...

I agree. I'm not condoning Paula Deen's use of that word, but it's definitely a double standard. These are ok and acceptable?

The sad part is every one on this page and those who read it has listened to, partied to, danced to or rap music or r&b that has used some type of slang in the black community at some point in our life. Yet when this type of news comes out folks say it is a double standard. Really? :lol Where they do that at? :emlaugh: To thy own self be true!! :lol: It is what it is. Paula Deen might be racist, but let's talk about how trifling black people are if that ain't self- hate, I don't know what is. How often do you hear white folk blame the white community when black folks screw up like Paula Deen?

And people got the nerve to talk about double standards. White folks lead the league in benefitting from double standards when it comes to labor, business, courts, schools and politics. Black folk rarely get the benefit of the doubt. When we kill people, it's because we're predisposed to violence. When white folk go on shooting sprees, it's because they have some mental health disorder.

She can remember that story but she can't remember if Lisa Jackson told her about her brother's issues between 2005-2010?! GTFOH! The thing that bothers me is we live in a time where more Corporate racism and discrimination is going on then ever. White people in this country are buying guns to kill the zombies aka "young black males", folks are suing to try and end Affirmative action laws that helped get minorities where they are today, and black folks act like we are in a better state with race relations then ever. It is amazing what a degree, a white collar job and a house in the middle to upper class neighborhood can do for the mentality of a African American. Yet we will rather destroy each other and blame each other for every bad thing in this country. Many of us are not far from going to school in the 80s or 90's in the south where we still used out of date textbooks, under funded schools and most of the folks kids are not on the second generation of educated kids yet. We have not come as far as you folks wanna admit, you just wanna turn the other cheek because you have so called made it. I grew up in a southern city that was and is light years ahead of where 90% of you southern folks come from, and if I experienced it growing up in a city that was and has been considered a major progressive city when the rest of the south was at a Snell pace, I know you did too!!
