actually there is truth in what he is saying, the person who makes the fewest mistakes and is most consistent mostly wins in gymnastics.

That's true about any competition. I could see if everyone performed terribly and she was the least terrible of everyone, but the truth is she's been virtually flawless all week with the exception of landing out of bounds on a tumbling pass Sunday. She won because she's been the best gymnast all week.

That's exactly what I said in bold. My point (that apparently didn't come across in the initial post) is Gabby is a beast, no fluke and you better not make mistakes if you want to compete in all arounds.

No you said she would probably win individual gold on the uneven bars and be a key to team gold, unless your argument is that UB is an abbreviation for all-around. All-around was nowhere in your post, although the word "hopefully" was. It's OK to admit so and move on.

Olympic champ might work.
Known as "The Flying Squirrel," Douglas won the women's all-around title Thursday night, becoming the third straight American to win gymnastics' biggest prize. It's her second gold medal of the London Games, coming two nights after she and her "Fierce Five" teammates gave the United States its first Olympic title since 1996.

It was two years ago that Douglas told her mom she wanted to move from their home in Virginia Beach, Va., to train with Liang Chow, who coached Shawn Johnson in 2008. Hawkins said absolutely not; there was no way she was letting the youngest of her four children move halfway across the country at 14.
But Douglas' two older sisters lobbied on her behalf, giving their mother a list of reasons Gabby should be allowed to go. The only reason to stay: They would miss her.

While Douglas' skills on floor are impressive -- she gets more air than the NBA's Carmelo Anthony, whom she and her teammates met the other day -- it's her personality that makes it a show-stopper. The crowd was clapping almost from the opening notes of her techno music, and she got downright sassy with her dance moves, directing playful grins at the judges.
Her score of 15.033 meant Komova needed a 15.36 or better to win. She didn't come close, and Douglas grabbed herself another gold.

That is sad. The young lady is 16 years old and not called The Flying Squirrel for nothing. None of the gymnasts who finished behind her received higher scores for better looking hair and she did not receive any deductions for a tuft being out of place here or there.
Gabby won. When the publicists for the products that she endorses capture her image for those companies, she will be looking her best - right down to the last strand of hair.

AND.... Gabby won the Olympic trials... with that win, she was the ONLY member of the Fab Five that was GUARANTEED a spot on the USA team...So actually, Gabby was the best. Point blank period!!!!!! #teamgabby!
