THE PVAMU
Oh Shaela'.....
I found this article about a former player from my high school that is now a Cougar now.......you guys should have a very good game..........
Two years ago, he was the quarterback of the future for the University of Houston. Now, instead of throwing passes for a Cougars team with Bowl Championship Series aspirations, he?ll be catching them.
La Marque grad L.J. Castile is projected to be a starting receiver for Houston in his sophomore season. The move from quarterback was made before last season and continued under new Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin.
?Playing receiver is a challenge that I gladly accepted,? Castile said. ?My mindset is 100 percent at receiver. I?m not even thinking about playing quarterback anymore.?
Castile was a star signal caller for La Marque, starting his junior and senior seasons. In his two years with the team, Castile amassed 2,355 yards passing and 1,105 rushing, along with 49 total touchdowns. Those numbers earned him District 23-4A MVP honors in 2005.
Castile signed with Houston and spent his redshirt season developing as a quarterback. However, with the emergence of fellow freshman quarterback Case Keenum last season, then-head coach Art Briles moved Castile to receiver.
He caught just seven passes last season for 106 yards and a touchdown his freshman season, as he was learning the nuances of his new position.
?Getting the route running down is the hardest thing,? Castile said. ?I?ve been coached up a lot, so it isn?t as hard anymore. It makes it a little easier being a former quarterback, too, because I know what holes in the defense to fit into.?
Listed at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Castile is the largest receiver on the team. Combined with his 42-inch vertical, he could be Houston?s top red zone receiving threat this season.
